Twigs webpage is very deceiving. It is beautifully designed and gives the impression of a relaxed but sophisticated ambience. However the atmosphere is that of a noisy diner. Our waiter was inattentive; we had to ask for bread twice and we only had full water glasses because we caught the eye of another server with a water pitcher. The peach bbq'd duck tenders with goat cheese crumbles were inedible. The peach was over-sweet, the breadcrumbs overcooked, heavy and tough and the duck could not be tasted. We sent it back and the waiter, Jordan, volunteered to take it off the bill. That was not done and we had to ask to have it removed. There was no wine list given to us. I asked for the choices of Prosecco and was told there was only one. Our entrees were good however, the trout fresh out of the pan and light and my husband enjoyed his pasta. A very mixed experience that we will not repeat. read more

The food was awesome! The duck tenders with goat cheese had a perfect balance of flavor. My steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce and potatoes were amazing. The salmon was also perfectly cooked. The risotto needed a little extra flavor but otherwise was good. They have daily bar specials which looks great. $1 oysters on sundays and 1/2 wine on Wednesdays. read more

We go to Twigs a few times a year to celebrate special occasions. It's never disappointed us. I usually get the crab cake sandwich in the bar but was sad to see they took it off the menu tonight. I had the new fish tacos though and they were excellent. The best fried fish I think I've ever had anywhere honestly. We also always get the peach bbq'd duck tenders and they're always amazing. Will always choose Twigs when we need a night out! read more

If you are even thinking about going to Twigs, do yourself a favor and just go, you will not regret it!! Jordan was our server and he was incredible. Very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive. We had the Bex Riesling and it was wonderful. All the food was to die for - we got the small cheese plate to start, the lamb chops and filet minion as our mains, and the vanilla bean creme brûlée as our dessert. Let's start from the beginning.... We were pleasantly surprised how nice and new the building was when we pulled up, only to realize that we were walking into the ABC store and that this restaurant was the weird little house-like building next to it. Okay, no problem, that one is on me... So we went in to find a few employees lounging on the couches by the hostess stand looking at us like we were interrupting their gossip session. When we told the hostess behind the stand that we had a reservation she verified, and before she could say anything to us was told which table to sit us at by one of the people sitting on the couch (in a sweatshirt). We saw this as rather unprofessional, but sat anyway then listened to this same sweatshirted girl berate and bark orders at the hostess that looked like she was trying her best to stay professional. After the server suggested every appetizer on the menu until we agreed to one, he took our orders. I asked for the Low Country, and was met with "wouldn't you rather have the pork special". I figured this to mean that the Low Country wasn't good so I said "uhh sure okay" because ya know, I like pork. When it came out it was obviously mostly undercooked, so I ate the parts I felt comfortable with then ate some of my wife's bow tie pasta (which was excellent). When we got the check I was blown away to find out that this sorry pork "special" was $40!!!! Now I feel sick... I left my card, and told my wife I was going out to the car so I didn't make any more of a scene then I had to... live and learn. We will NOT be back here!! It's also worth mentioning that I only ever leave positive reviews for places, but this was an exceptionally bad experience! The only bad experience since we have been in the area in fact!! I had the a watermelon salad with champagne dressing....to die for, pork chop with cherry glacé on smashed potatoes and wilted lettuce...to die for, cheese charcuterie...to die for and the crab cakes again ...to die for. Stellar in every way, we decided to splurge on an anniversary dinner, and there was nothing in the entire experience that disappointed we had the beautiful lobster bisque to start. It was creamy, but not overwhelming beautiful lobster flavor served in a nice hot bowl. The fried oysters were absolutely scrumptious. I could've eaten five more of those. I had the pecan trout, it's was crisp, delicate cooked absolutely to perfection with a lovely lemon beurre blanc. We had the liver and onions, which is a favorite of mine and this did not disappoint in anyway so happy to see this on a menu there was also tenderloin, and some halibut had by our friends, and everybody was very positive about all. Afterwards we wandered into the bar to listen to music and we're pinching ourselves at a beautiful time we had. Note again the service was just fabulous. I believe her name was Mallory (adorable redhead) and she spot on with her recommendations extremely attentive, friendly service. There needs to be more Mallory's in this world. read more

We came across this place on our way to Sugar mountain. It was the coziest cutest place! It was a Thursday afternoon and We got there just in time because after it got a little busy. The food was exceptional and very tasty. My favorite had to be the Peach BBQ'D Duck Tenders. It was a like sweet and sour and creamy with the goat cheese. The staff there was very polite and well mannered. The cocktails were different. I got a mule which was okay.. I'm more used to stronger drinks. I would've preferred wine. read more

A visit to Blowing Rock/Boone is not complete without a trip to Twigs for dinner. It's on 321 near the Tanger Outlets and not far from the main drag. It's got a nouveau-mountain feel, looking like a cottage from the outside. They've added a little alfresco area outside with strung-up lights and plants. Inside, it's got low ceilings and looks very much like a house was turned into a restaurant. It's rustic in a good way, with cool bark cornices and vinework around the windows. The bar is great--they have a large selection and a full menu that's a little different from the main menu in the dining room next door. The bar does live music fairly often starting around 9pm and can get raucous. The dining room probably has about 15 tables and can be very active, but not so loud that you can't hear your tablemates. The food here is just terrific, with a great variety of meat, fowl, game, and seafood. I'm very partial to the appetizer of peach-barbecued duck tenders with goat cheese. But the apricot-brandy marinated grilled shrimp are great, too. This past weekend, they had an appetizer special of calamari with a light cornmeal breading served with chipotle mayonnaise--heaven! Main courses are also creative and uniformly good, though to be honest I generally order one of the nightly specials which are usually distinctive. I've had ostrich fillet, cioppino, roasted red snapper, etc. etc. etc. and always loved them. I've been here upwards of 15 times and no one at my table has ever been served anything that was less than very good. The wine list is pretty extensive and very reasonably-priced (Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling for $18 for example). The servers tend to be students from nearby Appalachian State, but despite the high turnover that kind of arrangement leads to, they are unfailingly pleasant and knowledgeable. The only real negative I can think of about this place is that the bathrooms are far too small for the amount of business they get, at least on weekends. If you're going to Blowing Rock, this place should be on your to-do list. read more

So disappointing. One of our old favorite restaurants in Blowing Rock but no one there to answer phones and take orders. Finally get through - after being cut off several times - and order sauteed trout which turns out to be so breaded you can't taste fish at all. We're gluten free so sauteed should be fine but caked with flour. Will be a long time before we try Twigs again. But we will. read more

My Friend had recommended the restaurant as one of her favorites. Perhaps we just caught them on a bad day. We had left a message the day before requesting a reservation and never received a call back. when I called again they said of they forgot to call but they were full. The hostess stated we should come and sit in the bar area where they were serving both menus. When we showed up the bar was packed no social distancing at all. After a brief discussion they made room in the dining room. It took 15 minutes for the bat to make 2 dirty martinis. The shrimp pasta tasted like something from the freezer & the filet was fatty. I doubt we will go back but on the flip side Livia was charming & effeciant. read more

Very nice restaurant!!! I went once and was very pleased to see some vegetarian/vegan options on the menu. The food was really good, they were very busy for a Tuesday evening. We sat on the bar side. The vibe is really cute in the restaurant. The waiter didn't check on us too much I am assuming because the place was packed, but I will be returning again this week! Haven't been here in years and kicking myself about it. We sat at the bar ( restaurant was full! Love that). Enjoyed the flash fried oysters and homemade pimento cheese for appetizers, then the bar filet and horseradish salmon for dinner. Not one bite left! If you were going to charge me $27 for a single ultra small chicken breast it better be seasoned and not over cooked. My husband and I are total foodies. We were in Blowing Rock for 1 night while traveling and had a delicious petite steak dinner ( perfectly cooked ) at the bar. The food was priced right for and serving size. The quality of the food was excellent. The atmosphere was lively and friendly. We will definitely make a point to return to Twigs when we are in the Blowing Rock area. We enjoyed this spot. The restaurant is comfortable inside and pretty spacious. Great drink/wine options and friendly staff. Appetizers were fantastic. Fried Green Tomatoes and oysters. Blue cheese dressing was very excellent. Steak was fantastic. Lamb chops-The chops were good albeit only 3 for $38 but I would scrap the fingerling potatoes and green peas. They had no discernible flavor. There's a million things to serve with lamb chops. It's a hard entree not to make amazing. I was underwhelmed. Would like to see a more imaginative pasta entree. These are things I would return for. And will in a few months to see how they're progressing. read more

Excellent! Our friends each had salmon and raved about it. I had the pecan crusted trout and loved it. My husband had the veal liver and enjoyed it. The atmosphere is homey and very pleasant. Although we ate inside since it was a bit chilly, they have a nice outdoor patio with fire pit. read more

Extremely disappointed with Twigs last night, Tuesday, July 5, 2022. Had reservations for 2 at 7 pm. Sat us a bit after 7. Well, there we sat for over 20 minutes. No server, no water, nothing. Finally I got up and asked for water, nothing. Had to ask twice before someone actually came over and gave us water. Service was horrible the entire night. Food was good, but my chicken was a bit overcooked. We had to ask for bread. When the tiny dinner rolls finally showed up, they were hard as a rock! We never got refills on our waters or ever asked if we would like another drink (Twigs Mule/Wine). We ordered cheesecake for dessert. Between both of us, we only had 1 spoon. No utensils. The coffee was disgusting. Tasted like battery acid. Had one sip. read more

My wife and I ate at Twigs this last week after recommendation from our neighbor in Tampa Fl. I would have liked to have given Twigs more stars. The service was attentive, the food was delicious and well presented. The wine list was very reasonably priced with a nice selection, but what ruined the dining experience was the terrible flatware used at the restaurant. It was like what you probably used as a child in the school cafeteria. If the owners could see in spending a couple of dollars on restaurant quality table service it would be a significant improvement in the quality of the dining experience. After not making reservations for our anniversary, I ended up being bailed out when we make a quick reservation at Twigs and ended up having a fantastic night! We came in early on a Saturday in early November, and were treated to a cozy atmosphere and white tablecloths. Everyone running service was incredibly caring and nice and our waiter was top notch. We had a long discussion about blue cheese dressing, and despite never getting blue cheese dressing - don't pass this up! Of the dishes we had for the night, the shrimp and grits were the clear winner. We also enjoyed the bar after dinner as they have a dart board set up, cozy chairs next to a fireplace, and music every Saturday night. Overall this place has a bit of everything and I would certainly recommend it for a fun and romantic night out. read more

We decided to check out Twigs for our Anniversary last weekend....so glad we stopped in! Twigs looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but the inside is very warm with nice lighting and ambiance. They also have a side of the restaurant for the bar, which is more casual. We ended up playing darts over there after a meal (they also have live music on Saturdays on that side). After sitting down, we decided on a 2004 Paso Robles Zin for wine. The bottle price was extremely reasonable priced. For our meals, I got the shrimp and grits and my husband got the filet. Both meals started with a soup or salad. My husband got the soup of the day, which was delicious. I got a salad. The waiter was kind enough to bring us a few types of dressing for me to try. I really really dont like blue cheese dressing but he told me to try it because it was a bit unique. Oh my gosh....best blue cheese dressing of my life!!! My husbands filet was cooked perfectly medium rare (how filet should be cooked!) and was nicely seasoned. The winner for the evening was the shrimp and grits with sausage. The lobster cream sauce just made the dish so decadent and tasty. Nice portion size and the shrimp were the big ones! I would go back to this restaurant just for this dish. Dining at twigs... Dinner served with a side of apathy In summary, our server made a mistake with an entree. He didn't take ownership or provide much of a solution. Perhaps he was put in a challenging situation considering the chef outrightly refused accommodating or was considerate of food allergies. They were in a rush to close the kitchen. The 'apparent' restaurant manager's ill treatment towards guests making assumptions, hailing accusations left me hungry and all of our friends stricken with sudden indigestion. We were threatened to pay the bill for the food we 'consumed' or they would call the cops (Emphatically stated twice and in front of our children). All the while, they already had our credit cards in hand. In no way was it implied we would walk out without paying our bill. Just an awful experience!
