My apologies for this lengthy, late, but important review.
July 2024 was our second time to rent Pine Island Beach Club in Corolla, NC. First time in 2019 was great for our family of 24. Despite my phone call to question whether this property continued to be well maintained, and was assured I would not be disappointed. They were wrong. We were indeed disappointed.
We immediately noticed a marked difference in upkeep and maintenance. Over the next few days, we noticed more and more issues. INside: a large dehumidifier was left in a kids' bathroom, exposed electrical wires in a bedroom, malfunctioning smoke detector had to be dismantled, dishwasher racks zip-tied together, sheets on some beds sideways, sandy comforters needed to be shook, incomplete towel sets and some missing a bath mat, rear theater seats were broken, and there was not new flooring throughout as advertised. We noticed a few ants in the kitchen so we moved and sealed snacks. Within a few days they were present in the bar, around the concrete pool and the elevator. OUTside: the exterior was shabby, paint peeling on the eves, fence and posts, dirty worn cushions and torn wicker furniture in the cabana, along with rusty and corroded fans, switches, and broken sink faucet (same as 5 years ago). Safety pool lights had to be located and repaired by a family member, along with trouble shooting the outdoor television. (BTW, the television inside did not accommodate streaming)
A few days in, I called Twiddy to report our complaints, especially the safety issues. I was told we would be contacted. We were not. 48 hours later, I called again. This time I was more persistent in expressing our frustration and dismay for the way Twiddy was handling our situation. I was simply told to not lose faith. A report would be opened and we would be contacted by email in 2 weeks. In hindsight perhaps we should have been obnoxiously demanding, however that's not our normal way to handle problems. So we sucked it up, and focused on enjoying the remaining celebration time with our family.
Two weeks later we received our email. We filled it out, graciously expressed our dismay, and included pictures for proof. We were shocked and insulted by the response we received, even blaming us for "not requesting a maintenance order". Needless to say, our response was blunt, expressing our disgust at their basic dismissal of our experience. This time we were told they reviewed our phone calls and conceded they were remiss in handling the situation and gave us minimal compensation (Twiddy share of the rental), basically "throwing us a bone". Our complaints were never a ploy to have our rental reimbursed, however, we remained frustrated that the owners weren't held responsible. Needless to say, our faith in Twiddy was NOT restored.
After months of 'letting it rest', we continued to feel we owed it to future renters to BEWARE, to ASK QUESTIONS, and if you have issues during your stay, be persistent in calling Twiddy and *DEMAND IMMEDIATE MAINTENANCE ASSISTANCE*!!!
Perhaps if we had not seen the decline from 5 years ago, we would have had lower expectations. However, considering the cost of this rental, our expectations were quite reasonable. Perhaps the owners are just "eeking by" and maintaining their property according to Twiddy Realty requirements without maintaining the high standards one would expect from a high-end property that charges a high-end price.
Hopefully the property managers and housekeepers have made some needed improvements. Our hope is that our honest and somewhat detailed (oh, there's more!) review will encourage the owners of Pine Island Beach Club to take action (if they haven't already done so) or SELL TO SOMEONE WHO CARES.
Thank you for taking the time to read our review in full.
