We stayed at "Somewhere in the Sun" which is located on the 4x4 beach a few miles north of the end of the regular road in Corolla. While the house itself was generally in disrepair - there were 2 important issues that should have been addressed before Twiddy ever considered renting the house on behalf of the owner. 1) On the 3rd story exterior deck - there were several deck railing slats that were either missing or loose. Any renter with a small dog or worse, child would be at significant safety risk because of this. Our small dog nearly fell from the 3rd story - fortunately, we caught him before he did. He was unable to be out there the rest of the time we were there. 2) The home's well was at it's end of life. We learned this when we came home from the beach to no hot water, and faucets spitting mud. We called Twiddy and they suggested we reset the breaker to the hot water tank - that worked for a half a day - but when we came back from the beach the next day - same. When they sent a repairman to fix it - we were told by the repair person that they had informed Twiddy that the well needed to be replaced "months ago" and that the owner wouldn't do it. So - our entire family had cold showers pretty much all week with being able to only run one faucet at a time (if the shower was running - nothing else could be on otherwise, mud). Not exactly what we were hoping for. We let Twiddy know both of these issues during our stay and we also followed up again after our stay through a survey they sent. We also left a negative review on the property page on the Twiddy website which was promptly taken down. Twiddy offered us a $50 credit towards our next booking with them - which will happen never. Overall a poor experience and response from Twiddy. read more

We did not see the "need to provide own linens ". Renting was expensive so we bought cheap Walmart. Linens not only thing we would have packed. If there is a next time I will be better prepared. This is our second home that we rented from Twiddy and they have been wonderful to deal with. NEVER RENT WITH TWIDDY. I will NEVER make this mistake again. We paid over $17,000 for a one week vacation to have our wedding. The house was advertised as an event house and showed beautiful pictures of an event lawn. The actual "lawn" was dirty sand, we were expecting beautiful grass for our wedding reception. The WORST part of it all was how we were treated. We checked in on a Sunday and Twiddy was closing for the evening and told us they would call us Monday to "figure out a solution." We never received a call. We also were told that a cleaning crew would be coming Monday to clean again since the house was disgusting. They never showed either. Twiddy never called me back all week. After our vacation I complained and they are offering me $250 out of their pockets. $250 out of $17,000+ we paid. Ridiculous. We were also not aware of the entire second floor's AC unit being broken so each room had an AC unit. Some of the units were so loud our guests couldn't sleep. Our bridal suite had our door propped open and taped with a unit in the door. We had no privacy from people on the deck and had no access to our deck from our suite. Several door handles were missing. Some of the rooms did not have lights. 2 of the toilet seats were cracked and pinched our guests. One of the sliding doors to the bathroom fell off the hinges on TOP of my 1 year old toddler. Thankfully the counter top stopped it or my toddler would be in the hospital and Twiddy would be having a major law suit. No comforters on the beds, even though the pictures show otherwise. But wait, they are in the drawer! With BLOOD and brown stains all over them, dirty. Disgusting. The pool heater was not turned on until after we arrived and the pool was not warm enough to swim until the second day of our vacation, despite me paying $800 to have the pool heated the entire week. The house was absolutely falling apart and it is obvious that Twiddy does not care for their properties. The worst thing is how terrible we were treated as customers and the insulting "compensation" of $250 we were offered. We requested 10% of what we paid back and their company still to keep 90%. But nope, $250. Ridiculous. NEVER RENT TWIDDY. They lost a ton of customers that rent from them through my family and friends who vacation there every year. Horrible customer service. Our house was filthy and the pool was covered in algae. We could not swim in our pool until day 4. The furniture was so dirty it would show on your clothes when you sat on it. There was unknown liquids on the walls. Black mold coming from the vents. The door wouldn't open. There were nails poking through the deck. The vacuum was broken. The pots and pans were disgusting. I had to wait on hold daily with customer service to get issues addressed. Was told I would get a credit for the problems and inconvenience and they offered a $100 credit towards a future stay. Ha! Don't believe the listings on their site. We had a very easy experience from beginning to end. We rented Shorley Cozy over a year ago for this summer and the staff at Twiddy was responsive all the way through the process. The only comment I might have is that although the home was well equipped with dishes etc you have to provide everything else. We had to buy beach towels, dishwasher soap, paper towels, sponges, trash bags and everything else you might need for cleaning and cooking. Nothing was left from previous renter so I assume the cleaning crew picks all that up. I felt like having to throw so much away when we left was a huge waste for the landfill as well as money. Anytime we called Twiddy with questions before we arrived as well as while we were there the phone was answered and the service was excellent. We were so disappointed by Twiddy's response to a fire alarm that was sounding in the property we rented over Labor Day weekend, we were told they'd "try to get to it" the next day A FIRE ALARM blaring on and off in a home with a broken landline. We called, texted, stayed on hold on the emergency line for over a half hour and waited. After three hours we finally left since we had no idea if the house was actually on fire and we could not get any help from Twiddy - it took days to get a call back (After many calls by us and after we'd already arrived home!). I've been trying to get a refund for the days we lost and the additional costs incurred, but I will say they seem very unethical, stating the don't refund sales tax since it's "already been sent to the state" (no kidding, however, sales and occupancy taxes are refunded on a return) and they refuse to refund the same way I paid, needing 30 days to issue a check (why would I trust a check when I cannot get a return call)?! Needless to say I'll be contacting the appropriate state agencies on this. Never again. read more

After 30 years of family rentals 4x per year across all seasons, our last Twiddy rental last week (Oct 2021) was an utter embarrassment due to 1) the dismally filthy condition housekeeping left the house in, and 2) the unresponsiveness of Twiddy service staff. In all our years, not once have we had to deal with aggressive roaches in virtually every room of the house in broad daylight. They were in bathrooms, crawling on kitchen counters, laundry room, game room, bedrooms, bathrooms, poolside, and they even boldly crawled across the big flatscreen TV as we watched a movie. Super gross. Twiddy replied by saying they had already sprayed the house for bugs. That was in fact untrue. Twiddly also "apologized for the inconvenience." By the looks of the comments since late 2019, guests are spending much of their vacation time documenting needed repairs for Twiddy, and Twiddy must be spending a upwards of 40-man hours a week in valuable staff time exclusively responding to customer complaints-- only with apologies, not by actually repairing things, solving problems, or making things right with their customers. RENTERS AND HOMEOWNERS BEWARE! We rented for the first time in 2020 through Twiddy. The house was amazing, spotless and so perfect. Loved it so much we decided to rent again this August. Our house was already booked so we tried a new one listed by the same company. Two families- 4 adults and 5 kids. We spent approx $8k for the week. After a 10 hour trek, we finally arrived at the beautiful house in Pine Island. And it was a mess. There were deck chairs in the pool; patio furniture thrown about the deck (no not weather everyone else's homes were fine), broken pool sticks, unmade beds, a huge red stain on one of the mattresses, stains on the carpet, crumbs and food stains on the tables and the sliding doors looked like one at a rest stop. I'll spare all you the photos. While the kids spent our first night on video games and not in the pool, I cleaned for 2 hours. ON MY VACATION. $8k! I had sent photos and complained as soon as we got there but it was a Sunday. We heard back from Twiddy around 1:30pm the following day! To spare every detail- the company asked if we wanted cleaning to be done (I declined as I already did it for Our first night) and that was it. No follow Up, no coupon for an OBX outing or anything to show good will. So we complained when we got home including all the pics. After a "4 week investigation" the company wants to send us a check for the cleaning fee of $125. WHAT A JOKE. We paid 8k for the week... and not even a "hey let's buy you guys some paddle boarding" or anything to save face! Or even a follow up call to say- we told the owners and that mattress will be taken out and replaced for the next renters... (thank God we didn't need the extra bed!) I feel bad for the family that came in after us. The company rudely emailed saying the $125 would be the highest price they would pay us. Frankly, that's not enough to pay the cleaning service in the first place. I'd give Twiddy negative stars for poor business practices, dirty homes, and no care whatsoever for their renters or their homeowners. Shame on you, Twiddy. Absolutely horrible. The house was just infested with bugs. Roaches, mosquitoes you name it, it bit us. Everyone in the house was swollen after the first night. The house is 10 miles up the beach, so it took 45 minutes to get any type of cream or medicine. We put on more cortisone and benadryl cream than sunscreen. When we arrived at the house it was a mess, you couldn't walk barefoot in the house because there was sand and dirt all over the floor. The pool deck was full of bugs and sand, the pool was full of sand, dead bugs, the water level was low and the filter was not installed. There were tufts of hair on the stairs. When you turned the water on it was discolored and smelled absolutely horrible. I've been coming to OBX for 25 years, never had an experience this horrible. Literally do not use this rental company. We will seek medical attention for bug bites and rashes once we get home. read more

Twiddy tried to deal with all the issues we had with Chez Plage. They were responsive to our calls, texts and even walk-in to the office. But you can fix broke. They sent out the maintenance people almost daily, an exterminator, the carpet cleaner, the pool guy, the TV guy, etc.The house was a dump and we wanted out but because it was not a catastrophic disaster they would not give us a new house. We paid lots of $$$$ for an ocean front home. Twiddy should know this house is in need of a complete make over and not make excuses. What a disappointment having to deal with the conditions of our rental. Shore Pleasure is very tired. From the condition of the structure (Windows, sliders, screen) all the way down to the pots and pans, this place needs a face lift. We were unable to gain entry at the promised time. Sheets were stained (see pictures). We're going to make the best of it and still have a great time but it's in spite of this VERY over priced rental. It has not been well taken care of. Staff is great!! Jillian was wonderful. Sad thing is the company's policy with regard to deposit fees for next rentals. You place a deposit but if you don't accept the price you lose the deposit. I can live with that when prices change moderately but in our case the rental increased 200%. So no reasonable SS applied to the policy. Customer loses. read more

They used to be stellar, but as they grew and grew, their service has sharply declined. We used Brindley last year and had much better service. Unfortunately, many of the houses that work for us are Twiddy. Brindley has Sparkle Club where you can enter your home by 12pm for lots of houses. Twiddy is always 4pm if you're lucky. It's never earlier. If you have issues they either don't show up at all or show up days later. We have 2 major issues this trip and they never sent anyone out, even though they said they would immediately. All lip service, all apologies, but no follow thru. They are now too big for their own good. Oh, and please update your house pics every couple years. Such false advertising going on with these homes that we pay so much for. *AVOID* We have rented from Twiddy for over 30 years as a family. We will never use Twiddy again after our last two vacations under them. They have grown to be a group that is not family oriented anymore and no longer put any valid effort into correcting their mistakes or the homes issues. For example, our property lost AC and they did not respond in a timely manor and the issue continued to happen over and over again. The pool and hot tub were also clean and well maintained. We had no issues this year. My husband and I rented the C Dolphin in Kill Devil Hills, NC through Twiddy to celebrate our 30th anniversary in November with family and friends. Their site showed a gorgeous home with the amenities we wanted and an incredible view. The first day we found the fireplace and hot tub did not work and the microwave was not only broken, but unsafe and unusable. We called immediately. My there were 3 amenities we wanted when searching for this house - 2 of those were the hot tub and fireplace. The info in the rental stated the second fireplace in the master bedroom was inoperable. We were ok with that but when we got there you could see dead locusts in that fireplace. In addition, the toilets were dirty and we had to go out to buy cleaner to make the toilets sanitary for our guests. The company sent someone immediately the first day, but they never came back to fix the issues and all follow up calls were ignored. After our vacation, I complained to Twiddy - that was in mid November. Now, in mid December, I've received their response. After paying more than $7,000 for the rental and the amenities we wanted, they are offering to reimburse $200. That's it, $200. That amount might be the equivalent of the cleaning fee and we were the ones that did part of that. We have rented in OBX for more than 30 years and dealt with multiple rental agencies and we have never had to file a complaint until dealing with Twiddy. If you rent from them, be aware that you are probably not going to get what they offer in their description and their customer service is horrible. We rented at one of the slowest times of the year. We are staying at Sandy dune and realized that the hot tub wasn't working after the second night we were here and I messaged twiddy with them answering but never having anyone come and look at the hot tub. We come here to do stuff during the day and relax in the hot tub at night and we're able to do that. I am very disappointed with the hot tub situation not being remedied. I don't think I will rent with twiddy again. We will b back next year but using a different realtor. read more

We rented Summerland week of May 23rd 2021. Normally we go off season after Labor Day to avoid crowds. Drove from Delaware and arrived on beach around 2:00 pm knowing that keyless check in was 4 pm. We did call to see if home was ready early, unfortunately could not happen. We went to home at 4, no "cleaning" crew at home, proceeded to unload items from vehicles. Noticed not as clean as it should have been....then found coffee pot half full, counters had crumbs, food in cupboard, food in freezer/fridge that smelled and a fully loaded clean dishwasher. Went to rooms post on a bed was broken, toilet seat broken, toilet paper holder broken, wet dining room rug (which later gave off a urine smell) that we had to roll up and put on deck because of odor. I took pictures and sent to Twiddy and requested a response by email or phone call. Just to let them know it was previously in that condition. I had to call back 2 days later. The response was yes they received email and I should have called to have cleaners come back out. Sure just what we want after driving all day waiting for people who should have already had house cleaned while we wait to put our stuff away, cook and eat. We did have a good time, but this is the second time in 3 years service was poor. Normally we leave a tip for cleaners based on how home was upon our arrival.......that was not done. We also treat it like our home during the stay...vacuum, clean counters, pick up dog poop, wipe down bathrooms, dust and I even cleaned the grill! read more

My husband rented a house with Twiddy the first week of May for our 10th anniversary. We had problems from the moment we arrived at the property. We were given the wrong code to get in the house. Eventually someone was sent out to let us in. We arrived Sunday. There was no hot water whatsoever in the house until late Friday. The hot tub didn't work until Thursday. We were on the phone everyday with Twiddy trying to get hot water to take a shower. There were numerous maintenance workers and plumbers in and out of the house throughout every day of our stay except Saturday dealing with the hot tub and hot water heater. We were told they were waiting on the homeowner to approve replacing the hot water heater and that the old one was leaking from the bottom and couldn't be repaired. Before it was replaced we were told to reset the water heater to get hot water long enough to take a shower, which didn't work. The employees at Twiddy seemed irritated every time we called in as if we were inconveniencing them. The maintenance workers would show up and complain that it wasn't their job to do any of it. We were dealing with the inconvenience of no hot water AND dealing with the homeowners issues trying to get things repaired. Having our time interrupted all day everyday by workers in and out all but one day of our stay is unacceptable. Having no hot water to shower, especially having a baby and disabled grandmother in the home, is unacceptable. The decks were very unsafe. Boards felt like you'd fall right through and spindles were completely unattached, as seen in the photos. An adult could fall through them, much less a child. Rusty nails (see picture) were scattered on the bottom of the pool, which was very nasty as was the hot tub. The entire outside of the house was gross. Covered in bugs, dirt and webs. The house inside wasn't clean at all. I had to go buy bathroom cleaner and clean it myself. The master bath shower door did not seal at all and would flood the entire room if anyone was brave enough to attempt a freezing cold shower. The grill didn't work. It was an all around nightmare on a special occasion. Eventually a guy called from Twiddy offering to reimburse us up to $250 to go to dinner for the hardships we were having and assured us he was in contact with resolutions for further reimbursement. We didn't really want to go out to eat, but was under the impression that something would be done about our experience, so we did. No reimbursement whatsoever has been made! We were told to contact resolutions once we got home. They emailed us first saying we would be reimbursed $125 from the homeowners, which was adding insult to injury. We then received another email stating that because I, not even the policy holder mind you, had a balance owed to Twiddy for a different previous rental, we would be getting nothing at all. In that incident, I booked a home in December 2020. I was diagnosed with a life threatening blood clot days after making a deposit and told by my doctor not to travel and had surgery in December. I notified Twiddy immediately that day that I would not be able to come. The house was reposted and was only off market maybe 3 days. They told me they wouldn't give a refund and to file an insurance claim. Nothing was told to me about paying the remainder of that home. I filed insurance, which was a pain itself to deal with having to prove my medical condition to get my own money back. Months later sometime in 2021 i got an email stating that I owed $894 for that house despite never having gone there. Twiddy and the homeowner had already gotten a $900 deposit for a week nobody stayed in the house. The insurance was the one to pay my money back. They told my husband in an email that if I left a bad review, they'd respond by saying I breached contract on a previous home. Our family vacation was originally booked thru Outer Banks Blue but the oceanfront house we paid for had bed bugs. They referred us to a Twiddy but did not specify that we needed oceanfront. (Needless to say Outer Banks Blue had awful customer service). Twiddy got us an Oceanside house, but when I clarified with them that we needed an oceanfront house, Hannah at Twiddy went above and beyond and got us a beautiful oceanfront home in Carolla--"Knot Worried." This is a great house. Only recommendation would be to have a small sink in the bar area on upper floor. Very well equipped house and nice decor and the owners had 3 large yummy pies for us when we checked in! We have rented homes in OBX for over 25 years. This past October (2022) we had the unfortunate experience of staying in Morning Star I. From the moment we arrived we knew that the house was in dire need of repair. I'll list just a few of the things that were in disrepair: paint missing from the interior railings, holes in the walls, the front of one of the kitchen drawers missing, a microwave that didn't work, dirty and unusable pots and pans in the kitchen (overall poorly stocked), a deck with loose boards and railing, a dirty and rusty charcoal grill, a rusty deck table with cheap and dirty plastic chairs, shower heads that didn't work and in fact one that sprayed all over the floor and almost caused our 86 year old mother to slip on the floor, holes in the shower wall, dirty and broken furniture throughout the house, bed mattresses well past their prime, filthy duct covers throughout the house, dirty carpet and the list just goes on. We initially asked them to move us to another home (being mid-October there must have been many vacant homes). They refused and brought over some kitchenware to tide us over. We then spent the better part of our one week rental, dealing with various repair people coming into and out of the house. Of course, none of the furniture was replaced or cleaned, rugs were not cleaned, mattresses were not replaced (they dropped some mattress toppers off) nothing in the bathrooms was repaired, they made some very minor repairs to the deck that had clearly not been maintained for years, and brought over some new plastic chairs for the deck table but did not replace the rusty table. Overall, we were victims of extensive deferred maintenance either by the owners or the rental company. We were told that we would be compensated for the condition of the home and the inconveniences it caused us. Had we not been in OBX for a family wedding, we would have left the first night we got there when they refused to move us to another home or refund out money so we could go stay in a hotel. Twiddy's initial offer of compensation was $250 which was totally unacceptable. They came back with their "best and final offer" of $440 and signatures on an NDA. Given the pathetic offer of compensation and the requirement to sign an NDA, we decided that it was better to not to accept their offer Thus, here is our honest review of Morning Star I. Given some of the more recent reviews of Morning Star I, it's obvious that nothing much has changed. First year at a Twiddy OBX rental and they were outstanding. Rental process from lease to check in and out was seamless. Beach house was as depicted on the website; and all Twiddy staff members were pleasant and easy to work with. Additionally, Twiddy was super responsive to correcting minor maintenance issues that were discovered during our stay. At Bubbas Beach House Courtesy of Twiddy Realty good times were had. The Coronas flowed like Mississippi River, the burgers were never ending and the wild horses of Corolla were like our next door NEIGHbors (get it, neigh? HA!). This place was a 12 Bedroom, 11 and two and a Half bath double kitchen pool wielding hot tub bubbling extravaganza. We came to conquer this land and plant our party flag and this beach house was our ship. The 16 of us had the time of our lives. 2 minutes from our feet in the water we visited the beach daily. Wild horses roam and relax on the beach just like the humans and coexist as one. Toads, Foxes, snakes and deer round out your wildlife but never became a nuisance. The house had a pool table, ping pong table, two bars, TVs everywhere, direct tv, and plenty of windows to enjoy the sunrise and sunset. This house was more than adequate to accommodate 16 people looking to make memories but there was a few problems we dealt with. 1) The Wifi didn't work and this is not a place you get any kind of service at. Make sure to load up on music in case you can't get Pandora or YouTube. 2) Our fridges didn't work well and one gave out completely spoiling some of our food and wasting some precious supplies and dollars and put us in a position to live out of a cooler more than we wanted. 3) The water to the bathrooms kept shutting off making showering and flushing a pain in the ass. 4)As nice as it was, everything was a bit dated and there's wasn't enough clear instruction on how everything worked like whole house music, the TVs and anything that needed turned off and on. Overall though, I traveled with people who wouldn't let nothing ruin friendship and a good time and we made the best of those few mishaps and made memories for a lifetime and in the end, that's what a beach house is for.
