I rented a house in Corolla for my daughter's wedding, having heard prior to renting it that Twiddy was not dependable about service issues we might experience during our stay. However, the house was the perfect house, and we had looked at 100's, so i gambled. Many issues were NOT handled as professionally as I would have expected from such a large company during the 11 months prior to my daughter's wedding, but the day we arrived in Corolla, 6 days before the wedding, it appeared all was well.
The house was clean and spotless left that way by the cleaning company Twiddy provided, the yard was gorgeous in front...around the pool where the cocktail hour was another story. I spent an hour of my own time pruning rose bushes that hadnt been touched in years. The pool service arrived to clean the pool that day as they do every sunday, and to our surprise, the carpet company came to clean the carpet that day as well...something they do every week as well. I was impressed.
I do want to point out here that our family had rented three houses on same street to cover the majority of our very large family. And our house was going to be the go-to place most of the week.
Right off the bat, the icemaker in the MAIN refrig where we all congregated was broken. Also, I had difficulty with the wi-fi which was important because I needed to stay in contact with my office. The check in people at the office in Corolla - about 4 houses away literally.....were FABULOUS..I cannot say enough NICE things about everyone in that office. THEY were INCREDIBLE. Immediately they sent someone to check the wi-fi,. And they brought me a cooler with 20 lbs of ice.
The NEXT day, the owner of the house showed up to look at the refrig and promptly told me the cleaning service had turned off the icemaker. I bought that story like a dummy. A day and a half later we still had NO ICE on the main level where we all congregated, and i called to complain. I was told that the owner would send someone to check it....which they did and determined it was broken and needed a part. I was led to believe they would get that part immediately. But of course they didn't..
The next day when I called to ask when the icemaker would be fixed, i was told the owner was going to order a part...and of course that meant how many more days would it be before this was fixed? I was FURIOUS I had 40 people coming to dinner that night, and I was offered more coolers of ice...so more people could trip over them and cause more of a mess in the kitchen.
I would almost bet money that that icemaker had been broken for a much longer time and othres just put up with the ice delivery. I was not that nice. I had two dinners in a row with alot of people coming, and I did not appreciate the lies I was getting from TWIDDY. Eventually one of their Customer Service people called to try to placate me with a line of bull a mile long. SHE WAS OBNOXIOUS. If that is Customer Service never ever rent from Twiddy. Admittedly, I was not happy and I did tell her i was advised never to rent from Twiddy. At that point instead of saying something like, "Well, hopefully we can get this fixed and regain your confidence", she very rudely said, "Well, why DIDNT you rent from someone else?" How do you like that for professionalism? Someone needs to be trained better in true Customer Service, and that little smart mouth should be fired..I think it was finally late on Day 4 when the refrig was fixed.
The rest of the week went well......I think on Day 5 we finally had ice out of the ice maker.
The other issue happened at the reception, and this is probably could be the most blantant issue of disregard. The house has a honeymoon cottage separated by the main driveway.....and there is a boardwalk type walk to the cottage from the driveway surrounded by VERY HARD and POINTED rocks. It looks pretty.
However, there is NOT proper lighting to see this walk at night. We all looked everywhere for lights including the workers who installed the tent for the reception,
During the reception, my 86-yr old sister in law asked if she could see the inside of the house; she was interested in renting it for her family next summer. I had raved about how much we liked it, and she was eager to see it. We did NOT see that darn boardwalk in the dark; I tripped wearing the gown i wore for the wedding, and fell head and hand first across that wooden plank walk into those pointed rocks. She tried to catch me and in the process she fell too. She had just finished rehab on her hips two days before and she fell into the rocks on her hips. If this isn't a liability and cause for a lawsuit, I don't know what it. I have reported all of this to Twiddy, and have not had a letter of apology or concern. So that should tell you how much they care about you, once they get your money,
The wedding was gorgeous and I loved the house; management left much to be desired. read more
