We've just spent our second year in Doggone Close to the Beach in Duck, which is managed by Twiddy. We will be renting through Twiddy again next year. They are straightforward and honest people and we appreciate that. We normally stay at a motel in Kill Devil Hills for a few days leading up to our week in Duck. Unfortunately, check out at the motel is 11 AM and check in for our house is 4 PM. Both years, Twiddy has gotten us into the house a couple of hours early. Since we have 4 dogs, that's very helpful to us. Twiddy has always been very responsive when we have had any small issues come up. Because we have 4 dogs, we like to vacuum before we leave, just as a courtesy to the owners and housekeeping. This year the vacuum was broken. They sent a maintenance guy over and he determined that a new vacuum was needed. He left and returned with a new vacuum 20 minutes later. Now that's service! The house we stayed in had more than plenty of dishes and utensils. The sheets were comfortable and the comforters were clean (which is a huge plus to me!). Because we travel with 4 (large breed) dogs, it can be difficult to find a home that will rent to us. Doggone Close to the Beach is a fabulously pet friendly place. Twiddy is more than willing to contact owners to see if they will accept us and our dogs, they are extremely helpful about it. We will be renting from Twiddy next year, we will be booking our home next week. Thanks Twiddy! read more

It's 2015 and I assume that Twiddy has corrected some of the past negative reviews. First off - they were wonderful. The Twiddy website is second to none when it comes to easily find, review and then decide on a vacation rental. All the info is just right there. Second, talk about nickle and dimeing people - I am so glad that Twiddy offers the linens as standard ammediates with the rental. Nothing worse then traveling to your vacation home and realize that you have to pay and or go and buy sheets at K-Mart. Every single home we have rental has been fantastic. Thanks Twiddy Duck/Corolla team read more

We just returned from the Outer Banks last night. Our 24th year there and have rented from Twiddy often. Our house this year was in the Palmer Island section of Duck, home called "Poseidon". Lovely home, great location, a bit dated. As others have stated, we were shocked at the spider infestation outside. We saw what we believed to be a brown recluse spider on the deck. You could not walk our the door without running the gauntlet of spiders and webs. We did not let the kids out on the porches after dusk. Called the management office to send an exterminator (who came) and someone to clean the porches (no show) from the dead midges carcasses. While the exterminator was there, we had him take care of an ant problem we found in the kitchen. $10,000 for the week and we could not sit outside to enjoy the views. Thoroughly disappointing. read more

Have rented beach houses in other parts of the country in the past and this was by far our best experience. Our house was great "A Perfect Beach Getaway" (Unit # B796). It was right on the ocean and had tons of bathrooms and bedrooms. Our four generation family get together was accommodated nicely in this house. There were great views! It was just the right distance from Duck (close enough to run in for errands, dinner or doughnuts - Duck Doughnuts Woo Hoo! - but far enough to be out of the traffic). Also big shout out to Twiddy Realtors. They made this process so easy. Great customer service, before, during and after our stay. read more

Before leaving, we went to the twiddy office and expresses the issues we had with the home and how it dramatically impacted our vacation. After 3 weeks they finally email us saying they are refunding $200 and offering $100 credit to rent through them again. The home cost over $4k for the week, so I view the $200 as a slap in the face. They don't care about repeat business just because of the demand. read more

I would give a 0 star rating if I could. This was my fourth year and wow....what a disappointment!! Let's begin.....about three weeks before our arrival we get a call from Twiddy letting us know that the house we'd paid for flooded and they were going to have to move us to another house. They sent over a choice of two houses....one a total dump and the other in Corova. Since none of the 14 people coming from all over the country had four wheel drive vehicles that eliminated the second choice. After several phone calls and emails they finally came up with a house called The Other Banks. Although this house in no way compared to the original house it had to do since the refund would take up to two weeks and I didn't have another few thousand to book elsewhere. ( and I'm glad I didn't opt for a refund, read on and you'll see why). Considering the let down on the less than desirable house I though I'd pay the extra cost for early check in so we could enjoy the pool and beach for a few extra hours then we normally do with a 4pm check in. We went to the Twiddy office, got the keys, followed by a text from them saying the house was ready. We head right over, immediately notice the large plastic linen boxes out front but put that off as them running a little behind. Since there were no people there we assumed all was set. We unload, get in our suits and hit the pool. Within minutes a woman pulls up, advises us that they never cleaned the house as they were not advised it was an early check in house, and tells us that if we'd like to leave they'd be more then happy to come in and clean. ARE YOU KIDDING.......we just drove 14 hours...no we don't want to leave. Instead, I call Brianna Corbo in customer service who advises me that they will definitely refund the early check in fee and will send the cleaning crew at our convenience. At this, I calm down and let her know that is is okay....we will clean the house but indefinitely expect that to be refunded as we did not receive that service. We also advised her of the broken handle on the sliding glass door and the main level deck railing that was so loose we could not allow the children out onto that deck. To date, after dozens of phone calls, emails and conversations with Brianna, Mary and Melinda as well as other general reservation staff( you have to re-explain each time you phone in) I have yet to see a refund. On the 16th Brianna told me a check would be issued and mailed the following week and when it did not arrive I called back, today, the 26h, one month after my visit, I was told a check was issued on the 13th. That totally contradicts what Brianna said on the 16th. At this point I'm giving up on getting a refund....but I am also never booking with them again. That may mean nothing to them, in fact, I'm sure it doesn't, but after spending over 10k with them in the last several years it will make me feel better to NEVER recommend them or use them again. And I will also be reporting them to the attorney generals office. You get much better results then with the BBB. read more

We have been renting from Twiddy for 12 years now without a problem. This year was the first time there was a problem. It was not there fault, but the rental property had water damage. Kristy took amazing care of us to make sure we were happy with a replacement house. Which was not an easy task at such a short notice. read more

We rented Beach Music this year in Duck the week of 9/28 with Twiddy and the house was unacceptable. Arrived to both dishwashers full of dishes, dirty house both on inside and outside including dirty pool which was never cleaned the whole week we stayed. we had mice get into our stuff. They sent someone out to address but never came back to check them so that meant we had to dispose of the 4 mice that we caught and buy new mouse traps . The outside of house had so many bugs on it that we couldn't even sit outside and enjoy the beach front location. Had to buy a hose so that we could spray it down as they couldn't get someone out until three days after we arrived and the person that did show up to clean it should be embarrassed at the job he did. Twiddy asked for my feedback which I did send but for "some reason" my review hasn't been posted which I find is unfair and misleading to future renters. I think Twiddy is lacking in providing good clean homes and making sure the house is kept up to the standards to which they charge for these homes. I do not plan on using them again as this is the second year in a row we had an issue. I gave them the benefit of the doubt the first year and just assumed I had bad luck with the previous home I rented but in this case two strikes is enough. read more

"Allow me to preface this review with the fact that my family invested TWENTY THOUSAND dollars in a house for our vacation for one week. What we were welcomed to upon our arrival was nowhere near the quality expected for that price. Rather it felt like a disappointingly dirty Airbnb or a house which had been abandoned for a month. Upon entry to the house it was immediately obvious that the "deep cleaning" we paid for was at best lackluster. There was sand and dead bugs in every corner of the house. The rugs were in a sorry state covered with sand, dead bugs, and questionable stains. The movie theatre felt so disgusting that we spent a half hour disinfecting the chairs and the projector system had been tampered with by a previous visitor and was not fixed by Twiddy. The water in the house from the refrigerator which we expected to be filtered tasted like somewhat less salty seawater, the water tasted so horrible that we had to drive 45 minutes to a store to get gallons of drinkable water. The grill was also filthy to the point where it had to be cleaned thoroughly to be acceptable. The amenities in the house were also lackluster at best. Not to mention the fact that the umbrella provided was ripped to an unrecognizable degree. One glaring issue with the house was that there were swarms upon swarms of houseflies which would constantly assault the kitchen. This resulted in the first day of our stay consisting of 4 of us attempting to kill enough flies to at least make the kitchen useable. Overall my advice to twiddy would be to bother making the house livable if they plan on renting it out for a small fortune." read more

MY father recently rented "The Dream" through Twiddy & Co. The house was an eighteen bedroom so you can imagine the price for the week. Twiddy posted beautiful pictures and listed numerous amenities so we thought this perfect for our family reunion of aprox 30 people. Upon arrival the property was visibly dirty. Bathrooms were disgusting with visible mold, beds had sand in them, The refrigerators were shut off with the doors closed,(you can imagine the smell!),Tv system and theater room seldom worked, Hot tub was broken, Pool table had a leak over it, Fuse ball table was missing balls, pool was dirty, two ovens were broken, several doors were missing hinges, bar stools were broken but propped together, (two guests fell after they sat on them), sofa bed was filled with old food, Pots, pans and dishes were disgusting. I could go on. We contacted Twiddy and they sent a team of two cleaners. While trying to communicate with them they handed me a phone to type into translator app. ( so much for addressing all the issues). They also sent several people to repair things and the response was always "the part will be ordered". Needless to say, many in my party spent hours cleaning and washing linens, cleaning the house, and making repairs. In addition, to all the house issues we had 22 of 30 people return sick. two were taken to the emergency room, two others still have respiratory issues. Several filters were changed while we were there, (and left in the game room down stairs), I am not surprised from the look of them that guests were sick. Several doctors mentioned mold and or Legionnaires. Anyway, Twiddy was informed of these issues before and after the visit. We feel this house has serious issues and should not be rented to anyone else, We also took pictures so as soon as all are well again, we will post those. You would think that for the amount of money paid for this property that Twiddy would be able to maintain it. read more

Twiddy is horrible. They have no right claiming high quality properties and good customer service. We rented Groovy Dunes based on beautiful pictures that were clearly taken many years ago. This was evident when we saw different furniture and rugs in the house from the website pictures (and the current furniture and rugs are even very old). The list of problems seemed to never end (see below). We paid a lot of money for this rental and after relaying a long list of unacceptable problems, Twiddy offered us a small pittance of refund, a small credit (which we will never use) and lots of excuses. One of the repair men that they sent out (a contractor) revealed to us that they have a long list of repairs and they are not being addressed. Twiddy acted surprised when we gave them the list (very deceitful). The property we rented was in such disrepair that any agency claiming to have high standards should never allow this to be rented. * The stove was broken * The control panel on one of the hot tubs was broken * Only half of the jets on the second hot tub worked * One of the dishwashers would not close (had to put a chair against it to keep it closed and to run it). * There were at least 30 light bulbs out throughout the house. * None of the lights around the pool worked. * One of the windows would not close all the way and the open space was sealed with duct tape. * The sliding door on the first floor to go to the pool would not lock. * The build-up of bugs on the windows and base of the sliding doors was disgusting. The house in general did not seem very clean and there were stains on the furniture and rugs. The dining area rug was curled up on the ends and dirty. * The dunes were eroded (only house on the beach with that problem) and so the gate out of the pool area to the beach would not close because of sand build up. We could not use the stairs to the beach and had to climb the sand underneath to get to the beach (very difficult for older people). * There were broken chairs buried in the sand at the base of the stairs to the beach. * The pool had a ridiculous amount of sand in it when we arrived which indicated it had not been maintained for some time. They sent a pool person to vacuum it at our request which addressed the issue. He also tried to fix the hot tubs (and could not) and told us that Twiddy has a long list of issues and that the pool company was ready to drop them. The pool company has also recommended replacing both hot tubs and he said Twiddy/Owners won't do it. There is more, but hopefully you get the idea... They offered us a $315 refund which equates to the services fee ($190) and $125 from the owner. Seriously?!!! (... and it's so much more than a services issue). Don't rent from Twiddy and certainly don't rent "Groovy Dunes" property. Jim read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! Terrible service. We had paid the final amount for our house and we were told later on that the owners did not "approve of us" and the company DID NOT give our money back. We had to switch names on the lease and while one of the parents was filling out paperwork online for the lease they SHUT HER OUT of her account so that she could not finish the paperwork. Then later on we figured out that the company had FORGED her signature onto the lease. They finally gave us back our money when the parent threatened to sue the company. This was outrageous and unbelievable. I hope no one rents from this company again they will scam you. Absolutely TERRIBLE. read more

The outer banks, Carova Beach is our family go to spot for vacation. We have been going there for several years. We usually go all out when it comes to renting a home for a week. We rented Bubba's Beach house week 10/11/20 thru 10/18/20. Our first impression upon arrival was not good to start. There was torn up covers of some sort and a frame of a table just laying there as we pulled into the driveway. As we entered the home our impression seemed to improve. The entry way was nice. After settling in we started to look around to get a feel of the house we would be staying in for the next week with our child and dog. To start the house was visibly NOT CLEAN. The refrigerators had gunk down them and the inside was no better. We opened the door to the top deck to be greeted by dog poop left along just about the entire side deck. Yes, we contacted Twiddy they offered compensation and never got back to us!!!! I sent them video and pics of cleaning it up, but yes they never reached out other than my initial sending of video and pics. On other areas of deck there was peeling paint with a display of mold underneath. There is no way a person could sit in that area comfortably. To top it off there were ripped up patio chairs. Now lets get to the inside of the house: All rooms were nice sized, beds were good and accommodating space for clothes, etc. However the carpets had large stains thru out them. I'm my opinion the top floor needs to be redone. Around the windows/door in the bedroom was a display of mold. The house also had a intense odor of food once cooked. The odor lasted the entire week. The rest of the rest was nice but seemed like no one stays in the other floors. I could go on and on. read more

We traveled to the Outer Banks for vacation at a Beach House near Duck, NC. Nothing but problems since the day we arrived. (Now on day three of seven) *Carpets soaking wet (carpet cleaners held up our move in time). They had to bring in huge noisy fans that need to run for first two days on sight. *Toilets that don't drain and overflows even after maintenance snaked it. * Air conditioning not running for main level of house. (Trane was here, gone, came back spent several hours) Finally fixed at end of our second day. * WIFI that was advertised but with no access code. Four phone calls, and third password to try later we are up and connected. *Multiple areas of "filth" requiring repeated visits by cleaners, instead of a competent job from the start. Folks at Twiddy Management dispatch HVAC repair men, carpet cleaners, cleaning and other sub contractors freely, but appear to have no vested interest in making a quality experience for customers. At least the folks they send out are polite and apologetic. Twiddy Management's perspective is that "stuff breaks". Tough luck. Not even a decent apology. read more

Worst experience! The air conditioner was out when we arrived on June 18, called immediately, someone came out and recharged the freon, then on Sunday it went out again. On Monday they spent the day installing a loaner a/c unit and then on Thursday installed a new unit. 3 1/2 days of 95 degree weather with no air, no phone call from Twiddy to explain the delays, no apologies, a member of our group had to sit in the house all day each of the 3 days to let workmen in the house. Not to mention the broken lock on another door to the outside, dirty house when we arrived, broken hot tub, lightbulbs missing, not a single call or apology from Twiddy. Sand why should they, we have already paid and they aren't going to miss us when we rent from someone else next summer. read more

This was our 8th year with Twiddy, at the same house, and we have always been very pleased. There have been minor issues over the years, but Twiddy has always responded quickly and courteously to our concerns. We hope to use it for many more years. read more

This is the first time we have rented through Twiddy and was very happy with the service, attention to detail and the house we selected. I was shocked to read some of the other reviews here on Twiddy as we had the totally opposite experience. We rented Even Keel in Pine Island through the website for July 4th week and were totally satisfied. It was exactly as depicted on their website. We have been renting beach houses in NC since 1976 pre-internet, so having a site such as Twiddy's is awesome. Just about everything you need to know is listed on their website - so take the time and read it. We received a very warm welcome at their office and was even told that we could get into our house a little earlier. When we arrived the cleaners were still there but were done shortly thereafter. We called the office to report that the microwave was not working properly and a repair man appeared within 15 minutes. In reading a review from Lorraine P from July 2013 I saw that she was upset that the 3 homes she rented were not close as they had expected. She stated that Twiddy does not give you the address of the home until you arrive which is not true. I can't imagine that she was involved in reserving these houses as the street name is listed on the map that is located on the same page as the listing for the house. They also email you the exact street address when you get your confirmation. I used Google Earth and matched it to the map that Twiddy provided to find the house I was interested in renting. I knew exactly where it was before I made a deposit. Also she mentioned that her house did not come with linens "as other houses do". I think that Twiddy makes it perfectly clear that they have two different programs - one with linens and the other without which is the Traditional more affordable plan. It was unfortunate that they paid for linens and did not receive them in a timely manner. Again, this was my first experience with Twiddy and have since recommended them to friends who are renting in the Outer Banks. My family and I were very impressed with them and thought it was important to post my experience. read more

I recently stayed in a house managed by Twiddy and aside from the grimy floors, green pool, and cracked hot tub it was a decent experience; At Least until I tried to deal with there list and found service when I left my brand new watch in the home. I realized I had left the item during the ride home and called them Immediately to inform them of where I left it and how to contact me when it was found. They said they would call me back within the next three days to update me on the situation. After waiting five days without receiving a call I called again and was told to call back on Monday morning the next week to speak with the lost and found manager. After waiting another three days I called, as they had said, and was told that the lost and found manager was not there so I asked to leave a message. She later contacted me and said that the chances of me getting the watch back this late was very low (even though I had called the same day and told them where to find it!). The watch was worth $1000+, so all included i lost nearly $9000 on a dirty and broken house with poor management and customer service. 10/10 Would recommend you rent elsewhere. read more

First time renting from Twiddy, and it will be the last. Checked in at the Duck office (who checks in anymore anyway, it's 2015) and was told the property wouldn't be available until 4:00pm. Check in is supposed to be at 4, I get it, but if I have to pick up keys (who has keys anymore, it's 2015) at 4 and then drive 30 minutes to the property, then guess what, check in is not really at 4:00pm. Get to the property and there are no towels and linens, except of course for the disgusting towels from the previous guests left at the front door. How welcoming! Start unloading cold itemps into the refrigerator, only to find out it's not working. Called the Twiddy office, and find out the previous guests also had refrigerator problems and were provided with a temporary top-freezer refrigerator on the ground level. So it looks like management failed to tell me about this before checking in, even though they were well aware, and also looks like I'll have to use a refrigerator two flights of stairs away from the kitchen for an entire week. This is totally unacceptable. Take my advice, rent from an owner on VRBO. They care about their properties and won't be as dishonest and incompetent as Twiddy. read more

My daughter rented a large 7 bedroom beach home for several family members. Not one of the 6 couples would stay again, at least in this unit. Granted, the storm had recently passed through creating the odd bug infestation glued to the windows so I won't use issue because it was totally out of the control of Twiddy. Check in was at 4 and we didn't get the keys until after 4 which was fine because we would rather wait and have a clean, functioning unit. There was sand in the bathroom floor on LL as well as sand on the bumper pool table. Outside of the LL bedroom patio door was a small child's pool that had been once filled with sand that was now dumped all over the patio where you couldn't open the door. They did come the following day to clean that up. Also on LL curtains had what looked like pet urine stains and smelled as if a litter box had been in that room as well as in the theater room. Food from a previous guest was left in the freezer for us to remove. On the Middle level, the bedroom had the carpet pulled up and had industrial fans blowing assuming this room flooded somehow and smelled like it had been left wet for more than a couple days. We laid the carpet back in place, bought some Febreeze and used it because we needed the space. The toilet was also broken in this room and also the toilet in the room next to it was broken as well. We were able to get one of them working and 2 days after reporting the toilets someone came to fix them. Pool and hot tub were not cleaned but someone did come a few days later to clean them. Upper level was not of any concern although could have been cleaned better. Neither of the outdoor grills and the one by the pool was full of sand. The one off the kitchen we finally got to work. All in all, a big disappointment. I will say my daughter has used Twiddy before and did not have this experience. Also, had things been clean and in working order, the house itself would have been great because of the space and amount of bedrooms. read more

Very poor service by Twiddy in Corolla, Outer Banks, NC. We rented a beach front home called Family Dreams in the Corolla Light community of the Outer Banks. They should have named it "Family Nightmares". Twiddy failed to notify us that there was heavy construction taking place literally 20 feet from the property with heavy tractors going back and forth, starting at 7:00 AM, which were making enormous noise and kicking up dust all day long. We couldn't even open our windows which overlooked the ocean. Even with the windows closed, it was so noisy that we couldn't stay in the house during the day...couldn't stand the noise. When we contacted Twiddy about the problem, they told us that they weren't aware of the construction and that there was nothing they could do about it. Yeah, right. There is simply no way they couldn't have known about the construction. The home we rented was less than 4/10 of a mile from the Twiddy office. Oh, did I mention that the elevator in the home broke on the first day and both me and my son were stuck inside? We notified Twiddy about that as well and what did they do? Well....we are still waiting for it to be fixed, so it is up and down three flights of stairs all day long. Renters beware! Don't rent Family Dreams from Twiddy. It's a Family Nightmare! In fact, don't rent anything from Twiddy. Twiddy took zero responsibility for failing to notify us about the construction, didn't fix the elevator, and basically hung us out to dry. I will never, ever use Twiddy again. read more

DONT LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND YOU'll NEVER SEE IT AGAIN!!!!! Unfortunately, our experience with Twiddy Realty wasn't so enjoyable. We realized Saturday night my son and/or husband left behind a black game case with @20 Xbox and PlayStation games. Hoping to let someone know asap, I contacted Twiddy Sunday morning and they stated someone would call me Monday. I never heard from anyone so I called them again Tuesday. The lady I spoke with basically said lots of people leave lots of things and there was no way someone would have called me Monday. When I told her I felt this attitude was unacceptable considering the thousands of dollars we spent with them, she agreed to speak with someone from lost and found and then called me back telling me the case had not been turned in. She said the only thing they could do is wait until the current renters left the following Saturday and have the inspector look for the case. We called them today and were told it hadn't been turned in The general response from Twiddy has been apathetic at best. I understand we are at fault for leaving the items behind, I just wish someone had made more of an effort to help early on. read more

We rented the Caribbean Oasis for our wedding this month (June , 2018) Let me state - if this house was strictly for vacationing, it would have been fine. We specifically worked with Twiddy for an event home to host our wedding. We were charged a 1500 event fee for this property. When we arrived we were shocked to find the condition of the "event ready" home. Things that are promised on the website but were not delivered: 1. The website states that there are three front loading washer and dryers present in the property. This is untrue. When we arrived there were two sets of washer/dryer and only one would work at a time because there was a plastic piece that needed to be jammed into the front of the washer to make it work. While there were two washers, there was only one plastic piece so only one was operational at a time. We also had an issue with being contacted the day that we were checking in to say that we would have maintenance workers in the house to replace the washer and dryers. I understand the short amount of time that they have to turn the house around, but y need to understand the amount of money that we paid for this house and with that amount we thought we would have the house to ourselves and not have to share with any workers. We came to an amicable solution that we would have them installed on either Monday or Tuesday and we would be refunded $125 for the trouble. It was Tuesday morning and we still hadn't heard of a time that the workers would be to the house. We have yet to be refunded still. When the washers were finally replaced, there were only two sets put in the house, which is still one short of what your website claims is present in the house. 2.The forward king bedroom on the ground floor did not have a bedspread. It was noted by the ambassador and with a note that it was being laundered and would be dropped off as soon as it was done, this never happened. 3.At one point on the website it was stated that the house had two hot tubs, when we arrived the ambassador said that one was removed. We were never made aware of this until we arrived. 4.The game room tv was fairly unusable due to the bottom right of the screen not working correctly. We told staff this immediately and were told that a work order was put in and it would be fixed. That was the last we ever heard about the tv and it was never touched or fixed for the duration of our stay. 5.The auxiliary cord for the house sound system didn't work. I asked the technician that came over and he was very flippant about the fact that it didn't work and we could try other ways to get the sound to work. We paid $1,500 for an event fee and we are still unsure as to what this fee was applicable to. The outside condition of the house is in desperate need of cleaning and repair. Missing paint, large amounts of rust, broken chairs, and excessive garbage were a few of our concerns. We, along with our guests, spent a large amount of time cleaning up garbage and cigarette butts from the exterior of the home. I found it disturbing to find the cigarette butts, partly because you provided an ashtray in the kitchen, after we had received multiple notices in the emails that any smoking on the property would result in a large fine. You provided an ashtray but also told us that you would fine us if we smoked on the property, something about that doesn't seem right. We spent $1,500 for an event fee and then had to clean up to make sure things were presentable for the event that we were hosting. There were water bottles in the trees in the driveway, beer bottles off the walkway to the beach, cigarette butts in the rocks surrounding the pool, large branches with prickers on them. These in fact cut two of our guests etc. For some reason the linens for the next stay were dropped off the day of our wedding and left on the patio downstairs. This is the same patio that faces where all of our guests for our wedding were to arrive. So as we welcome guests to our house and wedding we also had to hope they excused the 7-8 large duffel bags of linens that were thrown on the porch and left there. One of our guests was bitten by something while he was staying in the house and it has crossed my mind that it could be because the linens that he slept in were more than likely left on the porch during the previous occupant's stay and something crawled in there. Our guest was taken to urgent care due to this bite! The kitchen was infested with ants. This is not a seasonal problem - this is an infestation for an exterminator! The pool lights (including surrounding lights) and lights on the walkway to the beach did not work. We asked through text and call for someone to come and look at the lights. Throughout this time we were steadfast in letting the staff know that we had an event on both Thursday and Friday and needed everything fixed by then. Lights were never fixed and workers arrived hours before our wedding to do nothing! This house is ABSOLUTELY NOT an event home. read more

I've rented from Twiddy previously without issue. Their website is great, staff friendly, and it is not until recently that I had an issue with them. This year I stayed in a house that was not up to par and informed Twiddy of such on their solicited review card. It was disappointing to see that they choose to filter the customer reviews and only post the "good" ones that will get their properties rented. Their failure to disclose true reviews is just as disappointing as the house I rented from them. If they don't want honest feedback then they shouldn't ask for it. So, renter beware... when you see time gaps between reviews that could very well mean the missing reviews are not so great. read more

Do yourself a favor and avoid these people . I stayed several years ago and the house we rented had 4 feet of water in the driveway . We call them and they assure us that everything is fine just go slow . My car sucks in about 3 gallons of water into the air intake and hydro locks the engine and they refused to do anything . You are on your own and my insurance wouldn't pay because I didn't have flood insurance on my policy . I got a $600 dollar tow off the beach and a $5000 bill to put an engine in my 2005 dodge Durango . I ended up selling the car to a shop there in n.c for 1000 bucks and drove home with the family that was traveling with us . Luckily the car was paid for . Twiddy you suck and I hope you go out of business I will never stay with you guys again and ever recommend you to anyone . read more

This is coming from a property owner that Twiddy supposedly manages. If you are considering Twiddy for property management services, please consider other companies. We spent every month haggling with Twiddy about our statement/charges. Random charges were billed every month, without notice/approval/justification. If customers broke something, or something disappeared, we were charged for that, even though Twiddy charges $140. each week for damages that may occur during rental weeks. This is each house, every week, and it is not an option. That's a lot of $'s coming in every season. There is an unbelievable lack of communication between departments, guests, and property owners. The focus of this company is to get as many properties as possible, then get as much money as they can from that season. They take 41% off the top of your advertised rental, then add whatever expenses they feel is necessary. Maybe some property owners have blank checks they can write to Twiddy, but we do not. If you are looking for a long term partner that you can trust to take care of your home, and look out for your interest-go with another company. Twiddy has gotten too big for their britches.......... read more

Used Twiddy for the 4th time. Unfortunately this was the first time we had a bad experience with them. The house we rented had several maintenance and housekeeping issues (including ants) and the response to address them was very slow. I talked to a supervisor who said she would call back but she never did. I left 2 messages with her and she never called. The house was definitely worn down and was not worth the price we paid. Considering I was with 5 other families, they apparently did not value return customers that much. Next year I will use another provider that actually provides good customer service. read more

First time renting on the outter banks. We had a great time with family and friends. The check in went well with good directions to our house which was in the 4x4 area. The house was ok. Nothing outstanding but adequate. This house needs some up dating and clean up on the out side. Deck furniture was filthy. Unable to use most of the chairs on the decks. The dryer stopped working about half way through the week. Notified Tweddy but the dryer was never repaired. This was major inconvenience since some of our family was coming a long distance and had stop overs without clean cloths. We called several times and no one said that they would not be fixing the dryer. If they had said that we might have looked for a laundry mat. Just poor customer service in my opinion. This all occurred in mid October not at the height of the summer season. Besides this issue we still had a great time and can't wait to return next year to a different house. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars, I would! The NC beach house my family rented was trashed and disgusting when we arrived. When we spoke to the company, they claimed that in their contract it stated that they do not have to maintain the house and it's up to the renter to clean it. To that, I call bs. They refuse to give us a refund, even though we were unable to stay due to it being a health hazard, and had to pay for an unrelated rental house. Aside from the money aspect, this whole situation was disappointing, as my family had been looking forward to our beach getaway for years only to have it ruined by this horrible company. I would never recommend this property. read more

Just got home from a week at a beautiful huge house on the beach in Pine Island(Corolla). Twiddy was very nice to deal with. Very easy reservation and check-in. House was fantastic! It was clean and well kept. The propane grill on the deck didn't work very well so we called Twiddy and they came right out. Promised us we would have a brand new grill the next day, and we did! No complaints at all. Will use them again. read more

I would not recommend Twiddy rentals at all. They constantly harassed us calling about how we were too loud (even though our neighbors told us they were disappointed at how quiet and uneventful we were), and consistently threatened to come to our house and inspect it. They finally came to inspect on the last day before we checked out and tried to fine us for a bogus extra cleaning fee. They also did not provide soap in any of the bathrooms and the refrigerators did not work well at all. They made our vacation stressful and a bad experience, would not recommend at all. read more

wow...First time to Outer Banks and I must say I am reluctant to rent from Twiddy.com We had several problems. Upon arrival, we were promised a phone call as soon as our property was ready... We never received one. We finally went to the home at 4:30 and the house was filthy. Looks like beds were made and clean linens were dropped off and that was it... Dirty used razor left in the shower...Mens underwear left in the bathroom under the sink.....Dirt and dead bugs all over the walls throughout the home..Trash from previous guests greeted us at the door... I called upon arrival to complain and they weren't much help....The home next door was deserted and dilapidated with a swampy stinky pool and hot tub and overgrown landscape We had oceanfront property that we paid 7000.00 for the week and THis was way below my expectation. The trash was never picked up and created such a mess of birds and flys not to mention the stench ....I called the office 3 times.....No help from customer service FInally last day I called 1 more time to express our disappointment and was promised a phone call from customer service by the end of the day....No one called!!! I am disgusted by the lack of service we received..The home was nicely decorated and had newer updates which was nice...It was very dirty though and I feel sorry for the people who own the home ....I asked for some kind of compensation and they only thing they were willing to do was waive the $50 re booking fee for next time... NO THANKS That doesn't cut it with me...I asked if they could at least waive the housekeeping fee and they said NO. I am appalled and disappointed I think OBX is a great place for a family vacation, But next time I will use another rental company Never will I use Twiddy again....Buyer beware I will also be contatacting the Better Business Bureau read more

DONT rent from TWIDDY! Horrible Experience. We rented Lady Drake. It was terrible. Its a shame because the house has such potential if it were just maintained. At the very least it should be cleaned. The house was dirty. While we were there the air conditioner wasn't working, the sink broke, sinks were clogged, mold was everywhere, no hot water, horrible wifi, toilet broke. Outside furniture broke while someone was sitting in it. The outside area was dirty. The list goes on and on. I should not have to come on vacation to have to clean the entire kitchen before we could ever use it. Do your self a favor rent for a company that actually has people clean the homes for every guest. read more

As a company that should be the epitome of customer service, they are not. I mean, here we are giving them our hard-earned money so they can provide us a lifetime memory. When asked to speak to a supervisor I was told that all complaints had to be submitted in writing via snail mail...what?!? I just wanted to talk to a decision maker. Response time to maintenance issues either went unaddressed during our stay or took several days to fix. Granted, under normal circumstances going without AC for 2 or 3 days is not a big deal, but not when that is half of your vacation time and every day was over 100 degrees...now with all that said, their online search features, reservations, communication prior to arrival, etc. were fantastic. The online systems they have in place are great...it's the in-person customer service that was lacking. And I was willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt and to chalk it up to me having a bad experience with one of their several hundred employees...but when our issues went unresolved for 2 months...and yes I did attempt to provide feedback via their online survey, which I assumed would spur someone to contact me...but alas it twas not the case. read more

I have been reading the other reviews and was surprised that some had such a negative experience. Our experience was the opposite. We rented in Four Seasons in Duck. The home was beautiful and just as it appeared in online photos. !0 of us arrived on sunday at 5:15 and were met by a very friendly Twiddy employee. On arrival we noticed couple of minor problems. We called Twiddy on Monday and they were taken care of immediately. During the week we had a problem with the dryer and someone came right out to check it out. Everyone at the office and in the community club house was very friendly and helpful. At the end of the week we were 19 family members having a great time and getting ready for a wedding in our spacious and lovely home. read more

We rented a house in the 4x4 area - Wild Horse Watch. The well was bad and we immediately noticed all the water in the house was coming out of the fixtures dark yellow. The worse thing about it was the strong sulphur odor through the house. We had to keep the windows open not to prevent us from gagging. We contacted Twiddy multiple times and the best they said they could do was give us bottled water on the 2nd to last day. We were extremely disappointed with the lack of service we received from Twiddy. read more

Thanks to Twiddy I brought in New Year's Eve in a hot tub on the beach. I can't say enough about what an amazing experience I had with the company (thank you!!!!), Gray Swan (what a house!), and the NC beaches during the winter (I walked on the beach without a jacket!). I live in NY but will make it back to NC as much as possible thanks to Twiddy. The last time I went to the Outer Banks, I remembered it being crowded, rowdy, and old, rickety beach houses. Twiddy helped us find the perfect house for my group of friends. We were right on the relaxing ocean front in a house that couldn't have been better. Well done. I've been telling all my friends and look forward to getting back! read more

I have been vacationing on the Outer Banks for almost forty years and I have probably dealt with every rental company at one time or another. I have rented from Twiddy six times over the years and have always felt that they are as good as it gets. I've had some real nightmares with some companies but have never had a problem with Twiddy. The cottage that we rent includes a linen package. You check in to your cottage and all of the beds are made. How cool is that? It also saves room in the vehicle when I don't have to pack sheets, towels, etc. I have always found the Twiddy staff very friendly and professional and will continue to rent from them in the future. read more
