The granddaughters of the original owners brought it back to life & it is even better than before, IMO. The candies are quite exceptional, and they are made by hand on-site every day. The chocolates are truly incomparable, but for me, it has always been their caramel. And I've tried a LOT of caramel in different cities & countries, but absolutely nothing compares to theirs. I now live 1000 miles away. But when I visit, I ALWAYS stop to visit the owners & buy a box of my favorites. Luckily, they also ship & I've taken advantage of that more than a few times...for others & myself. If you are even close to the area, go visit this 1901 confectionary for lunch & some divine hand-dipped chocolates & a caramel apple. You will not regret it.

You pretty much have to come before 8:30 am if you don't have to wait very long. We started with a Bloody Mary which was the perfect amount of spice and not spicy! I went with the country fried steak. It was as big as my plate! My eggs and hash browns were on another plate. Big props for the great hot sauce as well! My dad got an omelette which was huge! He took home half. He really liked the hash browns. This is going to be my go to place for breakfast at U of I. The place was clean, the portions are huge, and the food is excellent. I know it's a little pricy, but for the amount of food you get, it's well worth it!

The shrimp burger is served with very crispy fries that they use a coarse salt sparingly on which is exactly how I like it. The arugula salad that is served with the muffaletta is every bit as good as the sandwich it comes with. The muffaletta itself is quite savory and very delicious. It is a little on the salty side so be prepared with plenty of water, but the flavor is well worth this small sacrifice. Their outdoor seating area is an absolute gem and we had a wonderful table here with a great view of trees and the pond nearby.
