I was feeling great until my meal and wold love my oney back as I didnt pay to get food poisoning ...$28 later UPDATE: I want to be fair in my review by letting you know that since writing this, I went into the establishment and was refunded my money without any trouble. I am keeping my rating at one star because I don't know if I will ever trust their food again, but I want to thank the person I spoke with at the bar for her kindness and understanding. I will still go back for a drink, but ordering food is out of the question.

One of my faves at Shae's is their fish bite platter. Two sides. Green beans and tater tots. Yum! lol Their cheese curds and other appetizers are very good too Salads and sandwiches to choose from. I'm going to order a 12-inch pizza to take home. I've ordered it once before, at the party mentioned above. If a 12" pizza is too much for you, you can get a smaller pie, but the thin crust starts @ 12" size. So I happily shared mine around. All those people loved it also! They have a Taco Tuesday and other specials. I definitely recommend going in and making you and your friends/family comfortable, whether it's to watch various sports on the LARGE tvs or relaxing with a nice meal. Take out is welcomed, and 3rd party deliveries will bring it to you if tonight is giving stay at home vibes. Enjoy!

There was not.... Pulled up and ordered a double cheese burger with everything and a French fry and large Coke. Their pricing is way more expensive than any other independent burger joint and they nickel and dime you pretty hard on the items. 70 cents more for lettuce and tomato each, which I understand and that's typical for most restaurants anymore. $4.35 for a French fry that was old and tasted like it had sat under a heat lamp for an hour wasn't worth it. Their large drink was a medium and it was like $4-5 too, but the coke had the worse metallic taste to it like the lines were serious dirty. Was undrinkable. So you are looking at $20 before tax just for a "combo" which they don't offer... Let's get to the sandwich- it wasn't special and for $9.35 for just the meat, cheese and bun wasn't worth it either. They put condiments on the bottom bun which made it a soggy mess and when I went to pick it up, it was like wet dough because how soggy it was. Pretty sure it was one single slice of cheese and the burgers weren't thin and crispy but seemed like they try to make them like that, but I am guessing the size of each patty was 5-6 oz each maybe, so that is more meat than other typical independent restaurants. It almost tasted like charred or burnt and just wasn't special. Would I return? No, it's not worth the drive or the price for their products because everyone of them Had issues and was the most expensive "combo" I've bought at a tiny local burger joint.

We've visited the area a few times since moving to central Illinois a few years ago, and we always make a point of having a meal at the Candy Kitchen. This place continues the Illinois (at least) tradition of locally owned establishments that specialized in making and serving ice cream and candy. Although I can't figure out why I haven't tried their candy, I have tried their ice cream and their (less sweet) food. On our latest trip, with a pile of relatives, we all stopped at this place, that my in-laws used to call "The Greek's". Since the time my in-laws were growing up, decades ago, the place has changed hands (at least once), but you can tell that the current owners care about quality and service. When we arrived, the place was hopping, but with only one server in evidence we were concerned about how long we'd be there. Within a few minutes, though, there were servers everywhere. Seems that when it was seen how busy the place was, everyone was called in to help. On this latest trip, I had a really good patty melt. My wife had a (huge) pork tenderloin sandwich. We all shared around pretty much all of the various fried stuff, including mushrooms, onion rings, and green beans (!!!). My wife swears by the black walnut ice cream, but I prefer some of their other flavors. They're all made there, and all a lot better than you'll find at the typical ice cream shop or supermarket carton. I'm sure we'll be back to the area and I'm sure we'll be back to Candy Kitchen. If I'm a good boy, maybe I'll get to have some candy next time!
