This was such a neat little stop in my journey! I happened to be traveling through Paris and remembered that I had read a previous review of this place, so I just had to stop! It was a cute little place and definitely bustling with activity, but I only had to wait about 15 minutes for my shake. I was taking the shake to my grandma (about 30 minutes away), so I was a little stressed on how it would handle the trip. They actually boxed up the toppings separately so that they didn't "sink" into the shake! The shake made it to Clinton and my 100 year young grandma was pleasantly surprised!

We drove about an hour to try the mug milkshakes. They did not disappoint! They were super busy but the staff was friendly. Will definitely be back!

Not too shabby for Paris, Middle of Nowhere, Illinois! The wife has been trying this no carb/low carb thing so they actually did a taco salad with no chips and loaded her up with topping instead. It was actually really good. Fresh and plentiful. I'm not on a diet of any sort. I ordered the corn nuggets. Nice little pockets of scolding hot corny joy... also I got the deluxe footlong dog. Slaw, chili, cheese... all the goodness. Dog wasn't nothing to write home about, but it was enough to write Yelp about. Basic little scrawny weenie covered in toppings. Mell of a Hess... eat with a fork or wear it... ended up talking the wife into breaking her carb ban. Got a banana split and she took some bites. The pineapple stuff on one end... not recommended. I know it's traditions/OG, but save yourself the disappointment and get butterscotch or caramel or something else on that end. Over all it was quick, good social distancing, nice people... btw, if you're wondering why I didn't review the big fancy shake... it's $10 and none of the offered flavors looked appealing at the moment. Sorry... maybe a later date. Check out the pics, follow me, read my other reviews and go check out Kurly Q's!

As of January 2019 closed until further notice. Grease fire in kitchen has shut PARIS FAMILY RESTAURANT down for now.

Deluxe foot long hot dogs, mini sliders banana milkshakes, and of course fried cheeseballs. Great place to take the kids for dinner.

Love this locally owned restaurant. All the food is very good. My favorite is either the footlong slaw dog or the footlong deluxe.

They have the best cheese balls around. I dream about them on the reg. I wish I lived closer to this place so I could have them every day.

Gilbert Street cafe - Chicken Fajita Skillet

This spot was jumping this Sunday afternoon. Definitely a popular choice with the locals, and…read morethat's always a good sign! The parking lot was full, but we were able to be sat right away. We were taken to a booth and the seats and table were wet from the quick wipe it had just been given. It wasn't just wet, there were also lots of crumbs that had been left behind. As I looked around, I noticed that the floors were littered with trash and food also. Straw wrappers, napkins and bits of food were present under each and every table. I understand that during a busy rush, the staff probably can't take the time to sweep, but even after the rush nobody bothered to address it. There was a gentleman bussing tables who stayed "on patrol", though. He circled the dining room at regular intervals and made sure that dishes were cleared in a timely manner. I see you, sir! We were greeted right away and our drink orders were taken. That young lady was very kind and upbeat, which was quite welcoming. When she returned with our beverages, she offered to take our orders, but we weren't ready. And just like that, she ditched us! J/K, but kind of for real. A different waitress appeared and took over from there. She was efficient and took good care of us, but in a way, she wasn't as warm. She was no-nonsense and straight to the point. Our food was decent. My husband had The Special, which is a basic breakfast plate (eggs, French toast and bacon), I had the turkey club with fries, and my in-laws both had phily steak sandwiches with fries. The food didn't come out super fast, but that gave us time to settle-in and not feel rushed. It was quite nice and a change from what my husband and I are accustomed to where we live. We had a leisurely meal and caught up with old friends who wandered in and out during our meal. That was another clear sign that this place is a local favorite.

I'm in Danville for business quite often, and whenever I ask people where I should be eating in the…read morearea, they always mentioned Gilbert Street Cafe. I'm really starting to understand the "midwest diner", a large restaurant that always seems to be busy, friendly wait staff and a menu that has every classic American option under the sun. The food is typically done well, and that's why everyone recommends Gilbert Street Cafe. I've come here on three separate occasions thus far and my experiences have been quite consistent. My first visit I got their fried chicken tenders, with their vegetable of the day and a side of hash browns. The breading on the tenders were pretty good, but the chicken itself was missing some seasoning. The vegetable of the day (which seems to always be the vegetable of the day whenever I visit) was mixed veggies. It probably was the stuff you buy frozen in the bag, that was just okay as well. The hash browns were fantastic though, I would highly recommend getting breakfast items, they seem to do those extremely well! My next visit I order the chopped steak and I was very impressed. This one had a lot of good flavor, wasn't too dry and, did I mention that the portions here are super big? That's the midwest diner for ya! On my most recent visit I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes. This steak was also huge, maybe even larger than the size of my face. It came with this delicious white gravy that reminded me of the gravy put on biscuits and gravy here in the south. It was full of pepper, just the way I liked it. The potatoes on the other hand were a bit disappointing, it was almost like it was powdered mash. Not even the gravy could save it from the texture and flavor. If you're looking for a place to take the family, look no further than Gilbert Street Cafe. It is a community staple, and if you've been around long enough, you'll be sure to find someone you know there. It truly is part of the beating heart of Danville.
