We stopped in on our 10hr drive back to Chicago. It was a great break from all the driving. We were looking for a place that had a little bit of everything to satisfy 2 adults and 4 kids. Everything we ordered was great and the service was excellent. read more

Food is always amazing, staff is great, very clean and cute decor, always busy so u know they serve great food. Try it if u have a chance.

9/1/26 had a breaded Tenderloin and was pretty disappointed! I gave them a good rating for a great tenderloin about a year ago but today it was bad! Today's was smaller and thinner and over cooked and tasteless! The flies dive bombing the food and your face didn't help matters any but I don't think they can control that because of the traffic at the door! read more

It's always a good sign when you pull up to a restaurant and the parking lot is full. The Honey Bee Cafe is definitely a local favorite! Even though they were packed on a Tuesday at noon we were immediately greeted with a friend smile and we were seated right away. Just as soon as the tables cleared out, they were filling up again! Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Their menu is quite large and includes breakfast, lunch and dinner items. I enjoyed the country fried steak with country gravy. While the outside of this restaurant appears quite plain and unassuming. The inside is clean, cozy farmhouse atmosphere with comfortable booths and table options. They even have a large banquet room off the side that can be reserved for special events. read more

We read about this cafe being rated an excellent place to dine chosen from other diners across the country so we thought we'd give it a try on our way to Springfield. It was lunchtime when we arrived, but my spouse opted for breakfast and it did not disappoint. The bacon was crispy, the eggs cooked perfectly, and the hash browns perfectly crisp to her liking. I was very hungry and choose the spaghetti bolognese with meat sauce, which definitely delivered the flavor! The menu is huge and the service is great. This cafe is definitely worth the trip! read more

The food was very good and customer service could not have been better! There were lots of choices on the menu, including specials for seniors; and the pies! What choices! I had strawberry/rhubarb, one of my favorites. The crusts were flaky. We're going back again tonight. read more

Even when it's busy, we always feel welcome here! The food is delicious every time. The french toast is always a winner, and the eggs are consistently delicious! The lighting and decor are nice, enough light to be comfortable without being glaringly bright. Busy day are a little noisy, but that's the nature of the beast. read more

This was our second visit in a row with awful service by the pink-haired waitress. The first time our food went to the wrong table and they ate it. It took her 20 minutes to notice. This time we sat for 15 minutes without being greeted. Our food was wrong but she never came back to check on us so we didn't get the opportunity to let her know. We saw her when she took our order and brought our check and that was it. We will not be returning. read more

OK. Here's the deal. I've reviewed Honey Bee Cafe before and it got five stars. So, you ask, why am I doing another review? Great question. Well, the new photo is the answer. That's peanut butter pie. Here's the deal... I will now rate all my future inter-personal relationships on whether or not you like this pie. I have no use for those who do not like this pie. This is THE BEST pie I've ever eaten! I am COMPLETELY full. But, I WILL finish this pie. And, here's the way it needs consumed: Get it with the ice cream. Get it with the coffee. Get it with a fork (because that's what she gave me and it did not hinder my experience one bit.) Enjoy nirvana. read more

What a great surprise in Mattoon, IL. We are not from here and had no idea where to eat after a visit to the local hospital. Read all the good reviews and they hit the mark. The atmosphere is great, the employees are great, even the the people coming in to eat are friendly, but the food is awesome. read more

Exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant in a small town! Waitress was very kind and the food was good. My only qualm was there were a lot of flies inside but idk how much can be done to prevent that on a hot summer day. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! They lost our ticket so our food took over 40 minutes to come out. Missing my Rye Toast & just very mediocre. I used to be a server so i will always go out of my way but there was no urgency here. Food was just regular. Doesn't deserve to post pictures. read more

We came to visit our son at EIU. It is family weekend and all of the popular chain restaurants were packed with a wait. We came here based on reviews. I will be honest that when we pulled in the parking lot we almost left because it looked empty. As soon as we walked it we knew it had potential. It is clean and modern inside and smelled delicious. We ordered hot wings as an appetizer and they were great! We also had pancakes, French toast ( best I ever had), fried chicken, brunch burgers, salads and soups. Everything was really good! This will be our spot for every meal when we visit as the menu options are abundant! Austin, our waitress, was nice and attentive. The service overall was fast. I can't say one negative thing or recommend and changes! read more

Stopped in here for a late breakfast because of the excellent YELP reviews. We were not disappointed. They were fairly busy with several large groups (I know that kills the kitchen!), so our food took a bit longer than expected but it was really good. I had the Western Eggs Benedict that was very good. The bacon and hollandaise was especially delish. The tomato and avocado were under-fire, which for tomatoes this time of year is a sin. DH had the meat lovers omelet and he enjoyed it very much. He prefers his hash browns very crispy but he didn't order them that way so that's on him. Our friend ordered the waffle and eggs with some of their fresh squeezed orange juice and he said it was perfect. We are through Mattoon every few months so we will definitely go back!! read more

Absolutely awesome food and great people who are happy to have us there. Thank you bunches.

For about 2-3 years the Honey Bee has been my go to place every time we are in Mattoon, at least once a week. The service has been traffic and very fast. Plus very tasty. But the last 3 times we ate there we were eextremely disappointed. The service was extremely slow. 15 minutes before a waitress showed up. Then about another 15 minutes Another waitress 1showed up and said they lost our order. It was almost an hour from the time we got there until our food was brought to us. The whole staff seemed to be in a state of confusion. We will be looking for another plate to eat in the future. Before the last 4 trips I would given 5 stars. After these last trips I wish there was a ratings o read more

Great service, atmosphere and food! Feels like home. Consistency in food quality and service are important to me.

The girl with a the short short blonde hair was not only rude but inpatient. We walked in and immediately were not welcomed. There people at the register so we waited. the lady with short blonde hair looked into my soul and stated "what do you need" in a rude tone, not a singular other word to show that we welcomed. they stated that our foot would ready in five minutes. we stood there for 10-15 minutes. I had asked POLITELY, "pardon me, how much longer is this take". she looked looked at me in disbelief and said "i do not know, I just checked" I CAN ASSURE YOU SHE DID NOT LEAVE THAT SAME SPOT FOR 30 MINUTES, SO NO, YOU DID NOT JUST CHECK, nor did anyone inform her that my food would take longer expected. speaking of my food, i order a very simple item, so it shouldn't of taken more then 10 minutes. when my food was finally ready she rudely stated my total. when i was paying, the only thing i got was dirty looks from the cashier. i will not be going back here unless i get a written apology for her and c read more

Walleye was the best I ever had. Thick, juicy and about the length of my forearm! Salads were more than just chopped iceberg. Dinner rolls or hot bread would have been nice with the entrees. Service was awesome. It was packed, but we were welcomed right away, and our waitress took our order promptly. The bus boy had tables cleared before the party even left the restaurant. Prices were cheap! I expected to pay about $40 for what we ordered, but it was $29. read more

Stopped by for brunch on a Sunday after church with my parents. They were pretty busy, but we got a table right away. It took a while for us to get our food. At least they kept refilling the coffee. Mom and I got skillets and they were very tasty. Hubby got the breaded pork special and that was very good. Nice big piece of pork cooked perfectly. Dad had the chicken stir fry and couldn't stop saying how good it was. It was also so large that he took half home for lunch the next day. read more
