The great Yelp reviews led us to this little restaurant just west of Crawfordsville. The restaurant…read moreis not fancy, but had a good hometown vibe. When we entered, we were told to sit anywhere. We passed several un-bussed and dirty tables before finding a spot in the back. In general, the place could use a good cleaning and a facelift. They seemed to be understaffed with one server running around. Our service was good with glasses full, orders taken and a covered milk cup for my granddaughter. Food came out relatively quickly. They serve breakfast and lunch. The menu is broad with lots of tempting options. My husband had the patty melt, which he loved. The burger was juicy. The fries were ok. My granddaughter had the kid's chicken tenders with fries. The chicken was battered and delicious. Her meal came with a large glass of milk. It was a winner. I had the BLT. There was a generous portion of bacon on the sandwich, but some of the bacon was undercooked. I ended up pulling out the undercooked bacon. I should have said something, but I didn't want to make a fuss. There's plenty of parking.

The restaurant is small and homey. Our server was very friendly and attentive even though she was quite busy! She checked in on us several times while enjoying our food. This is the perfect breakfast spot, I am looking forward to stopping in for lunch sometime!

America is quickly becoming coast to coast franchises but locally owned restaurants like I & I don't just lend nostalgia to a quickly disappearing past, but give us hope for the future. I'm sure you're not reading this review for my prophesy for the future of the US, so here's a review of the food. Ah-mazing. I got the Elwood Burger Cheddar Horseradish Chive Cheese, Bourbon Bacon Jam, Grilled Onion and a side of fries. The burger was well portioned, and perfectly cooked. The toppings were to die for. We were just passing through and needed dinner but if I'm ever in whatever town this is again, I will definitely be stopping here. I can't say this is the best restaurant in town, only because I've only eaten here but my suspicion is that it is. I'm tempted to purchase the property across the street (beside the prison) just to eat here every day. I think it'd be a fair trade. Just don't pick up any hitchhikers out front.

I really didn't want hash browns or potatoes because of diet. But I know other restaurants don't reduce the price if you don't want them. Now I know it's not very much but I didn't realize that any type of a potato with an omelet was an additional charge.

We were taken to a booth and the seats and table were wet from the quick wipe it had just been given. It wasn't just wet, there were also lots of crumbs that had been left behind. As I looked around, I noticed that the floors were littered with trash and food also. Straw wrappers, napkins and bits of food were present under each and every table. I understand that during a busy rush, the staff probably can't take the time to sweep, but even after the rush nobody bothered to address it. There was a gentleman bussing tables who stayed "on patrol", though. He circled the dining room at regular intervals and made sure that dishes were cleared in a timely manner. I see you, sir! We were greeted right away and our drink orders were taken. That young lady was very kind and upbeat, which was quite welcoming. When she returned with our beverages, she offered to take our orders, but we weren't ready. And just like that, she ditched us! J/K, but kind of for real. A different waitress appeared and took over from there. She was efficient and took good care of us, but in a way, she wasn't as warm. She was no-nonsense and straight to the point. Our food was decent. My husband had The Special, which is a basic breakfast plate (eggs, French toast and bacon), I had the turkey club with fries, and my in-laws both had phily steak sandwiches with fries. The food didn't come out super fast, but that gave us time to settle-in and not feel rushed. It was quite nice and a change from what my husband and I are accustomed to where we live. We had a leisurely meal and caught up with old friends who wandered in and out during our meal. That was another clear sign that this place is a local favorite.

Our waitress came to take our drink order right away and we all decided to get the breakfast buffet. That was a great choice. Several options on the buffet. I liked that you could get hashbrowns and scrambled eggs plain or with peppers and fixings mixed in. They had a good jalapeno egg option too. Pancakes, waffles or french toast. Grits. Tortilla soup. Bacon, sausage links or ham for meats plus sausage gravy and biscuits. Tried a bit of everything except the soup and enjoyed it all. I did find the need for some salt and pepper on the potatoes and eggs but that's typical of a buffet. The only thing I would have liked to have seen added to the buffet was some cheese. It would have been nice to have for the eggs and/or the grits. Another add would be some berries for the pancakes and waffles or even some small packs of peanut butter. They kept the buffet stocked and made sure it was tidy. I love that they have a fresh squeezed orange juice station if you want some fresh ok it's available. The waitress checked back on us regularly for coffee and water. They didn't even seem to mind that we lingered for a while after we were done eating just visiting and catching up. Seems to be a family friendly meet up spot where you can eat and hang out for a bit. Definitely worth a visit. You'll be able to get full and the food is tasty.
