Although there isn't a sign telling you to sit wherever you like, the staff behind the counter noticed my entrance and gave me the okay. The restaurant has several rooms that you meander through passed the counter where you pay your bill and pick out pies "to go". As I wandered through the building (maybe 4 dining areas), I noticed a theme of using license plates from all 50 states and a lot of novelty ones. There were even some antique ones over 100 years old! It makes for an interesting way to pass time while your food is prepared. The menu has pretty standard/traditional American fare. I decided to order the Falcon Pride Burger (Go Falcons!) and a side of fries for $5! What a deal. The burger reminds me of what we used to call Pizza Burgers with a store bought bun, a burger, pizza sauce and melted cheese on top. The fries arrived unsalted and plentiful, but each table has its own salt and pepper shakers with ketchup brought out as well. The burger was pretty good. Not amazing, but a nice thin burger with a change of taste from the gourmet stuff I've been eating in Indy. The star of the show was the Gooseberry Pie that I got for later. I grew eating gooseberries at my grandfather's house, so it was a bit nostalgic for me. Gooseberries are round green berries with light vertical stripes. They have a little stem area on top that reminds me of Christmas ornaments. And the crust of the pie was snatched away by my wife when I offered a bite. Really good. They had close to 20 pies available too! If you want a good meal with friendly service and great pies, give this place a try. Review #2835

We stopped here for lunch. It's definitely off of the beaten path but worth the trip. Many different daily pie selections. Seriously. So much pie. They also had two cobbler options when we went. The catfish sandwich was fantastic. Super fresh. My husband had the pulled pork. Great options for kids meals. Several different options for sides. Decor is interesting- lots of local history on display.

This is our first time here since they reopened. We were a little worried that it would not be as good as it was before. I ordered the spaghetti special and it was great. The portion size was huge. Most people were taking home leftovers but you know that old saying, 'I can't believe I ate the whole thing.' The sauce reminded me of a restaurant I used to eat at when I was a little boy. My wife ordered the grilled tenderloin and an order of fried mushrooms. Both items were cooked perfectly and the portion size was more than she could finish, so naturally I had to come to her rescue. I almost forgot to mention that we arrived just a few minutes before closing time, and they were so gracious and insisted we stay and enjoy ourselves. I have never given out five stars but was tempted to in this case.

If you're looking for a cozy, friendly place to enjoy that "homemade" meal; this IS the place to go and so worth the drive! The 'whole' portion manhattans are definitely a must to try! But, make sure you save room for a slice of their delicious pie with a scoop of ice cream!!

We were celebrating our anniversary so it was a special night for us. Our waitress was super but stretched thin so she wasn't as attentive as she probably was on another night. This is a very upscale place. Decor and service reflect that. Good old fashioned steakhouse vibe. Oysters Rockafeller were perfect. Bread was fresh and absolutely delicious. He had American Wagyu Ribeye. I had Steak Oscar. Both were cooked appropriately. Maybe slightly under seasoned as we both added salt which is not typical for us. The Old Fashioned was really good and they had a wide selection of wine/beer and a handful of specialty cocktails. Our 2nd round of drinks was comped due to slow service at the bar and dessert was on the house for our anniversary which we really appreciated. We will definitely go back and try other things on the menu. Our steaks were good but I wouldn't say they were worth the price. $110 for his and $80ish for my Oscar. It was a filet with truffled hollandaise sauce and a scant amount of King Crab. They no longer serve King Crab due to the cost. Strange. If we would pay $110 for a steak why wouldn't we pay for King Crab due but that was a minor detail. I wouldn't say have preferred more crab...give me snow crab. The dessert was delightful. Baked Alaska served table side with plenty of rum. Thank you for making us feel valued and special!

(e.g. the scallop dish had exactly 3 scallops for what you're paying.) Prices on the menu have also gone up since other Yelper pics of the menu. The bread and butter was delicious. There is a lot of it, so I asked to box up the leftover bread and butter. The waiter took it but definitely did not box up the same amount of bread that I left behind. I only received a fraction of what I expected to be boxed up. The butter was flat out discarded. I would have just boxed it up myself had I known that they'd make sure it would go to waste. Not sure what happened to my actual leftover bread. The waiter was telling me all about the desserts and really played up the baked Alaska. It sounded great and I had my heart set on it after hearing all about how awesome it was and then he came back and said they ran out. It would have been more efficient to check up on inventory before talking up the different menu items.

Right across the Indiana state line on the West side of Indiana sits this little gem that serves up awesome hamburgers made with local sourced beef and many other items such as fish, steak, and chicken. We ordered two appetizers of onions rings, fried green beans and when they arrived we realized at that moment we were never going to finish either of them. The portions were huge and the freshness and flavor were great! They have many specialty hamburgers to choose from and the standards as well. I went with the Ellie burger with grilled onions and bacon jam. It was massive and delicious. My partner chose the mushroom and Swiss for a home run. The burgers come with your choice of fries, chips or Cole slaw. We both chose fries and they were really really good. We could have did just fine with the fries as our side but we splurged. The interior of the place is a little dark but warm and comfortable. There are even a few slot machines to entertain you if you desire. We also noted that there is a time change once you cross the state line so keep that in mind.

This was a bit of a drive for me, an hour and a half, since I live in Indy, but it was well worth the drive! The Beef House is a steakhouse that has been around since 1964, and it is a family style steakhouse that is known for their fresh beef and huge portions. They also have a banquet hall across the parking lot that can be rented out for special events or organization meetings. I have not been inside the banquet hall, but from the pictures, it looks very nice and has a beautiful ambiance. When I went inside the restaurant, I noticed a bull's head on the wall on the right that was very unique and stood out very well. It is definitely a photo opportunity for families to remember the dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is gorgeous and definitely old style family steakhouse vibes with wood paneling and display of fine chinaware on the mantle. Our server greeted us with a smile and welcomed us to the restaurant. Unfortunately, I do not remember her name, but she was wonderful and took very good care of us. The menu is very impressive with a variety of options from pasta, steak, lobster, fish, and even frog legs! I decided to go with the Atlantic salmon dinner because I was in the mood for fish. I know I should have gotten a steak, but just was not feeling a steak for dinner. The dinner came with a salad, a side, and soup. I chose the vegetable soup, garden salad, and baked potato with sour cream for my side. OMG! When I say the portions were huge, the portions were huge!!! My Atlantic salmon was a huge portion, and the baked potato was a decent size as well. The vegetable soup and garden salad were delicious and very fresh. The vegetable soup was homemade and very comfort food for me. The Atlantic salmon was cooked to perfection and had a perfect texture to it. It melted in my mouth when I tasted it and was absolutely perfect! The baked potato was excellent and cooked perfectly as well. My Aunt also had the Atlantic salmon dinner and my Uncle had the chicken Parmesan dinner with pasta. The chicken Parmesan was huge and big enough to fill the entire plate. My Uncle loved it very much. The best part was the yeast rolls with strawberry jam and apple butter. The yeast rolls were the best I have ever had in a long time and the homemade strawberry jam and apple butter were pure heaven. You can even purchase a dozen of the yeast rolls to take home, along with a jar of apple butter or strawberry jam, if you are so inclined. This was an amazing dining experience and reminded me of the old steakhouse my family used to go to as a kid for dinner on special occasions. My Aunt and Uncle gave a good recommendation, and will definitely be back here for dinner if I am in the area. The Beef House is fantastic and highly recommend anyone traveling on the road to stop here for lunch or dinner, but would suggest making reservations in advance because it does get busy very quick. A wonderful road side restaurant for dinner here in Indiana that is a great discovery. Everyone need to come to The Beef House! It is #1!

The staff here was very welcoming and I did enjoy the fact you see a lot of the meat on display when you enter! The interior also looked great as I took a picture with the bull in front! I started this meal the best way, with their yeast rolls. OMG they were so warm, fresh, and delicious! They also provide their homemade apple butter, which I HIGHLY suggest using. This apple butter made the rolls even better. For an appetizer we got the Combination Platter, which includes a bunch of their fried appetizers, Onion Rings, Fried Mushrooms, and Zucchini Fries. From this, I enjoyed the onion rings the most. I ended up getting the bone-in Ribeye with sautéed mushrooms. This steak hit the spot, with the right amount of marbling and flavor. The meal overall was very satisfying. For dessert, I got a cheesecake with strawberries on top. This was not too sweet, which is my preference. Overall, it was great to stop by here on my trip and would come by again!
