This place was Midwestern food at its finest. No frills, fried, hot out of the kitchen. Out son's burger was good but nothing spectacular. I had the pork tenderloin sandwich, and it was awesome. Again no frills but hot with all the toppings. The onion rings were great too. Crispy and freshly fried! The chips were disappointing. Definitely opt for fries if you up charge! Stopped in on our way through town. We were looking for a small mom and pop like diner and this place was exactly what we were looking for! Kids loves Theo chicken strips and spaghetti. OK but not great so the reason for only 3 stars. Let's start with the obvious. A really good omelet MUST have real breakfast potatoes not hash browns! No exceptions. My server did offer French fries. Next a great omelet is cooked in an omelet skillet not on a flat electric grill. And according to the Indiana egg board add 1 Tbsp. water per egg and whisk until fluffy. I also add salt, pepper, fresh minced garlic inc. the oil and my other favorite spices. It might have a pinch of Montreal steak seasoning too as a secret ingredient. You will see a lot of regulars here. I hope the owner sees this post and tries it. He appears to be Greek and involved in running the restaurant daily. read more

I had a spinach and feta omelette, which came with hash browns and toast. The omelette was a little overcooked for my liking, but the hash browns and sourdough toast were good. Portion size was generous, I was unable to finish the meal. The inside looks like a typical old fashioned diner. It's located very conveniently on South 3d Street, the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. We had an early dinner there today and enjoyed it. The New Day Café has a diner ambiance (including lots of booths) and a good-sized menu. My husband had a chicken Philly sandwich and I had pecan-crusted tilapia. His came with a cup of soup (he chose the creamy chicken rice) and I chose the salad (which consisted solely of iceberg lettuce, which was therefore basically a waste). I chose the hash browns for the potato option and he added them to his meal for only $1. My meal also included a vegetable, but the only option was mixed vegetables and they were canned. We were also given a huge basket of crackers. For dessert, I had the butterscotch pudding and my husband had the tapioca pudding. The meal cost $20.49 (including tax, but before the tip). In addition, the service was very good (pleasant & prompt) and the restroom was very clean. read more

I reviewed the restaurant on Yelp. Reviews and some menu items were interesting, appeared to be a good spot for a tasty soup and salad. I was disappointed with the beef soup, which was hamburger soup and tasted as bad as it looked. The salad was an attempt to make something look better, but tomatoes were old, dressing flat with no flavor, iceberg lettuce and way too many onions for something that should have been fresh with a mixture of greens, radishes, celery, olives, and cucumbers at a minimum. I won't be back. Probably good for a breakfast, but nothing more. Staff very busy, did not feel like they cared if I came in or not. read more

D and I were in Evansville for the weekend to attend a Sandy Patty concert. On our way back from a most uplifting performance D wanted to stop by a Denny's but I wanted to try something different. For me Denny's always seems to be slow and have some of the worst servers. I looked on Yelp and the reviews were positive so we checked New Day Cafe in Terre Haute out. The place was packed but luckily there was an open booth by the entrance way. We came in at the right time as even more people came in. Our seats proved to provide a great view of some of the impatient patrons who were waiting to dine. You snooze you wait. Our server was mostly okay. We both wound up ordering omelets, mine a mushroom and swiss & D's a combination omelet. In addition I ordered hot chocolate and a side of bacon. Both of our omelets also included hash browns. My omelet was fine though I was disappointed in the 'swiss' cheese. It tasted like the fake Kraft cheese slices I've grown to despise. The bacon was a bit burnt but still tasty. We managed to finish our omelets. Unfortunately for D he wound up having to stop at a rest stop an hour or so later due to diarrhea. Even after getting home hours later he had more diarrhea. He had to skip work the next day due to it. My stomach was upset as well but thankfully I only had a quick episode. We probably won't be in Evansville (or Terre Haute) again anytime soon but if we are, we won't be back here. I don't think they'll miss us though as they appear to have plenty of patrons. Whatever we had there did not agree with us though. read more

Cooks arguing spilled over to servers and the food, to the customers On an early Friday night they totally ruined meal. Servers were tense and apologetic. Servers & " I " trying yet if kitchen refused to not do their cooking over banter, little rest staff could do. No manager or owner onsight on such a could be busy Friday 'go out ' night. I returned uncooked eggs omlette as not done and apparent as cheese not even melted or warm. I did wait till owner showed up with his money change bag. Attempting to explain his problem in kitchen and dissatisfaction. He had no time & blew it off. Possibly cause my car plate announced RI State, I AM a resident in Terre Haute & familiarize myself with clean, good food & atmosphere. This New Day Cafe has fallen to ruin. Not a thing worthy to say. Establishment falling to low standards. To serve food and do to cooks bad additudes effected entire place. Could/should been left in kitchen. Not spilled over arguing to customers coming in & eatting. Poor management makes for poor food care. I don't trust improperly prepared foods by hostile hands. NEVER BE BACK! WAS A REGULAR. HANDLING restaurant takes great management! We WERE starving and whole experience left us hungry & cooked at home. Ruined our Friday "let's go out"!!! read more
