On a road trip through the fly over states toward the east coast, I kept googling/yelping for great places to stop & everyone seemed to love Clackleberries... so we stopped! The family diner feel was appreciated. The wait was pretty short considering the Sunday morning church crowd with the church bells blaring in the background of the town. My boyfriend has looked up what the state was known for so he knew he was getting the pork sandwich. I wasn't feeling amazing so I got a pecan waffle. Unequivocally this is a place that, heaven forbid it happen, if it were to shut down for a day or two or longer.....there might be a protest. Quickly seated in a booth in the brightly decorated dining area. Very lovely looking place. Promptly served with a traditional diner menu. Ordered some classics and food came very quickly. Portions are huge. Server said most people order three or four pancakes. I ordered three and still way too much. Nevertheless, they were quite good. Sausage patties were nice but there were bits of gristle and bone in them. Wifey had eggs and bacon which came with some lovely roasted taters; not greasy, nor salty, just a nice way to serve taters for breakfast. Well done. They had a broad menu for breakfast. We got eggs benedict, fried eggs, pancakes and the beef hash, and all were well above average, with eggs correctly cooked to over medium. Coffee was fine but average to weak. Ambience is that of a large family restaurant/diner, nothing fancy, with napkin wrapped silver and metal legged tables and also some booths. The noise level was moderate with a full restaurant on Sunday around noon. We had a couple minute wait, after being told it would be 15 minutes initially. Parking was ample even for a full restaurant. It was colder inside, and my wife needed a wrap. Service was very good although it was a bit difficult for us Midwesterners to understand our Latina waitress, perhaps partly from the moderate noise as well. All in all we enjoyed our breakfast and can recommend. Five stars compared with like-priced restaurants. read more

I had the Roast Leg of Lamb and it was good, the rice and potato were delicious and well-seasoned, but the lamb was a bit bland. It was very reasonably priced for a meal with lamb, and there's a good amount of meat. I'll try the Greek Chicken next time since it's the same meal but with chicken instead. I've also had the Veal Parmesan and it was average, just what you would expect and nothing special. The interior is a typical diner but they also have cute wall decor and art on the chalkboard. I'll need to try their amazing breakfast after all I've heard about it, but I can only comment on their lunch for now. I got a simple chicken sandwich that wasn't so simple at all. It actually had three pieces of chicken so the sandwich was huge. (not sure if it was because the one piece was thin or if they all come this way) The bun was toasted and was the perfect size. Such a great sandwich! Plus it came with soup and fries. But their prices really make the 5/5 stars. Even with the sandwich, fries, and a bowl (not small cup) of soup, my meal was under $8. The service was great, and the food came out very fast. Now the venue is a little "old-style" but it really has a comforting feeling. I enjoyed my lunch, so I can't wait to go back and try their breakfast. I only wish they were open for dinner too. read more

Intrigued by the name, I dropped in for lunch one weekday while in the Haute for work. Conveniently located near downtown at 7th St. and Poplar Ave., they had a decent crowd. I enjoyed the old school diner-style set up with counter seating at the front. We were seated in a lower level booth, and attended to quickly by the waitress. The menu is diverse and has something for everyone. We ordered and waited a short time for our food. My dining partners chose 1) the short stack of pancakes with blueberry topping, 2) ham sandwich with slaw and fries, and I chose the Greek salad as I was hoping for something a bit lighter. The large serving-size of pancakes looked great and apparently were very flavorful. The ham sandwich looked like a regular sandwich on white bread with sides, nothing spectacular. My salad was large, but was nearly covered in feta cheese. Not that I don't like cheese, I do but it was almost overkill. The lettuce was a spring mix type blend and was a bit less than fresh...I found a few wilted/dark pieces that weren't flavorful. The oil-based dressing (which I asked for on the side) was a bit heavy, with a lot more feta cheese and other seasonings. I was hoping for some type of a lighter Greek vinaigrette, but perhaps that was just my own personal preference. Our service was good and our waitress was efficient/friendly. We didn't feel rushed, despite the lunch crowd. I'll likely come back, but thinking I may try a breakfast selection next time. read more

But get into that plate a little bit, and you're just gonna get average back. I eat a lot of biscuits and gravy. A lot. This was okay. It's the sausage in there that lets it down. Not quite enough flavor. But, not hugely disappointed either. Same goes for the wife's chicken panini. Average. Coffee was good in a classic cafe kind of way, not in a Starbucks kind of way. It's old school, but good. So, breeze on in if you're nearby, you will be warmed by the coffee and the staff even if the food just misses. Stopped here recently for brunch on my way through Terre Haute. It was pretty crowded but only waited 15 minutes to be seated. Our server was great. Came to the table quickly for our orders. Had our drinks out in impeccable timing. All in all, my only complaints are, ranch should be served with your buffalo chicken wrap and if your wraps say 2 sides and an up charge for salad but you only get a salad, there shouldn't still be an up charge.
