We were there for Mother's day brunch. The food was not prepared fresh. The food was not hot or even warm. The service was good, but our table was not clean. I was streaked and some dried food on it. I will mot go back nor will I recommend it. read more

Kleptz's has been around for many years. More recently, we discovered they do a wide variety of large quantities for Carryout. For instance, if you don't want to make a bunch of mashed potatoes for a get-together, order ahead from Kleptz and they'll get you set with a big foil pan with some of their many options. Traditional entrees are always a mainstay. We like the quiet atmosphere inside the restaurant. Their servers are always very busy, but willing to get what you need ASAP. read more

The food didn't taste all that great and it gave me food poisoning something fierce, seriously if you want pizza go literally anywhere else or you might be hovering over your toilet at 3 o'clock in the morning blowing chunks of bad crust and undigested mushrooms from the salad bar. read more

They just started a Thursday dinner and Friday lunch pizza and pasta buffet so I thought I'd give it a try on Friday. Other than the taco pizza I believe the rest of the pizzas were reheated from Thursday night they did not taste fresh at all. Same with the pasta. For $15.99 I don't believe I'll be back. read more

Great cook! Great service! Great atmosphere. Good management and ownership make a pleasant experience. Don't miss out on this treat!

Kleptz's Restaurant may very well be the only actual restaurant in tiny Seelyville, Indiana - if not, it's pretty darn close to it. A family owned restaurant that has been around since 1914, seriously, Kleptz's takes reservations and offers dine-in, carry-out, catering, and they're big enough that they can handle private groups in their restaurant that resembles an expanded large house-type setting. They do have outdoor dining in warm weather. In fact, my visit was with a rather large party as a group of work peers was hosting me during my fundraising tour through their town. Kleptz's is on US 40 sort of on the Terre Haute/Seelyville line and incredibly close to Brazil, Indiana. It offers a diverse menu, though likely many smaller city restaurants has a rather fundamental online presence with Facebook and Yelp being its strongest web presence. Kleptz's serves all three meals and tends to run in the middle-of-the-road price range with most meals being in the $10-15 range. They do also serve alcohol. I did note that they do have gluten free options. There's a wheelchair ramp into the establishment - I'd say it's likely not quite up to ADA standards, though I had no difficulty with it. As this appears to have been a house at some point, the doorways are a tad narrow and I'm guessing that the person who reserved a private room likely indicated one wheelchair would be present. Kleptz's is big enough that I'd expect they have plenty of options for disabled diners. Parking is in an adjacent lot - I believe they had some identified accessible spots, a couple as I recall, though they definitely were not ADA compliant. Still, they had them. I ordered a tenderloin sandwich hoping that I'd discover a gem for my friend Rick G., a fellow Yelper who blogs about tenderloin. I also ordered fries and my usual unsweetened iced tea. As a group, we ordered a combo platter and I tried the popcorn shrimp - surprisingly tasty even for this guy who doesn't ordinarily eat shrimp. The tenderloin, which appeared to be hand-breaded, was still rather middle-of-the-road for me. It was a nice chunk o' meat but lacked any really distinctive flavor. I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't the gem I hoped it would be. The fries were fairly straightforward fries, though they complemented the meal just fine. The meal was good, but not great. I did use the bathroom. I will also admit that I struggled with it a bit. It's a single-user bathroom and the doorway was fairly narrow and the door closed quickly. While I'm mostly independent, during these events I have road support with me and I did need a little assistance with the door both entering and leaving the bathroom. Once in the bathroom? It's pretty spacious, though it lacks any adaptive devices that would assist with transfer. Basically, it's a bathroom in a restaurant that's been around over 100 years. I enjoyed this experience, though that was as much because of the company as anything. The service was friendly and efficient. I wouldn't hesitate to return, though I'd definitely try something other than tenderloin. That said, it wasn't the kind of experience that would have me thinking "I have to go back" the next time I'm in the area. If I could, I'd likely go 3.5 stars. As it is, 4 stars feels too high. So, 3 stars it is. read more

Kleptz's Restaurant - American Near Me - Terre Haute, Indiana

Resurrected old Tavern, the barrel vaulted ceiling is unique. The food is great homestyle. Specialties include walleye, bluegill in prime rib on the weekends. Salads are plain but the ranch dressing is the best I've seen. read more

Excellent service, food and ambience. It is always an enjoyable dining experience. They have a wide variety of menu options and drinks.

OK, maybe this is the only restaurant in town, but if you ever find yourself in Seelyville, consider yourself lucky. The food is good and you can't beat the prices My sirloin sandwich was only $9 and it was huge. It's basically an 8-oz. steak served with 2 thick pieces of Texas toast and a side. You could eat it as an entree if you wish, but there's something oddly satisfying about smashing a 3/4-in thick sirloin, lettuce, red onion, pickles, and tomato between two 1-in slabs of garlicky, greasy bread and trying to stuff it all in your piehole. Don't miss out on the housemade chips. Ask for them extra crispy (aka "not wimpy"). read more

Kleptz's has been a favorite of mine for a long time, though it's been a few years since I was able to eat here. To me they've always been great at burgers, steaks, and the fish sandwich. However, I am now on a heart healthy diet so I was concerned that my selection would be limited. Boy, was I wrong! The big salad was awesome! I had mine with grilled salmon which seems a little unusual but I really wanted to see how the flavors worked out. The honey mustard dressing with it was awesome. Speaking of dressings, they do make their own ranch. It is worth trying. They should bottle this stuff, it's amazing. As always the atmosphere at Kleptz's is fun and friendly. They treat their customers right and everyone seems to love working here. read more

We enjoyed the recent Easter brunch at Kleptz's. It was buffet style but with a twist. At the table you circled what you wanted to eat and the wait staff brought it to you. Worked great! Everything our table tried was very good, especially the fish and chicken. Desserts - well we tried 7 of them among the 4 of us, and they were served in small cups that we shared. They were all delicious and we were glad we saved room read more

Tonight was the first time I ate at this restaurant and was very disappointed in the quality of the food and it's preparation. I ordered the combo appetizer with onion rings, chicken strips, fried pickles and potato skins. The onion rings were burnt and the chicken was hard as a rock. The ravioli was undercooked and tasteless. I had to ask for a refill on tea. I will not be returning to this restaurant. read more

Don't waste your time looking for good food here. The service was good though. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and whatever cut of meat I was served was well done. The salad was half wilted and tasted of well water. How was the baked potato you ask? Dry and overcooked to the point I think it wasn't cooked that day. The green beans were bland and tasted fresh out of the can. This was my second time here in two years and I won't go again. We had a large group and only 2 people were happy with the food. Save a few bucks and your tastebuds and look elsewhere. It's sad that a mom and pop place that has endured around 100 years has let the quality go down to this level. Wish I had better things to say but sadly I can't. read more

Today I took the family to Kleptz. To celebrate Father's Day and my Anniversary. I had the Prime Rib and it was very good. My wife had the Salmon and she lived it. One other item I thought was very good was their sweet tea. The service was good, it was clean, the prices were a little high but so was the quality of food. I had not eaten at Kleptz in many years till today and I think we will be back soon. ** Another day I had the Ribeye with their sauteed mushrooms and I thought it was well seasoned and cooked right. read more

Always has really good food, whether or not you eat there or take it with you. Service is not always great, but it seems as though they are understaffed at lunch, and over staffed at dinner. The BLT is a solid eat, and the Tenderloins are a crowd pleaser. But, I happened to have the mushroom burger, and it was to-die-for. Plus, the sweet potato fries were great too! Would've loved some loaded ones with toasted marshmallow and maple syrup that day, but I was still happy as a clam. read more

Well Kleptz's has recently changed hands and I like what they're doing. Some minimal changes to the menu, and the choice to serve better quality food has made this place a must stop. The menu has something for everyone. The bar is stocked and the Long Islands are strong and tasty! They always have 2 craft beers on draught which is a huge plus for me. The decor is like an old lodge up north. I like it. It's very warm and inviting. Treat yourself to a nice dinner and a cold cold beer when you're east of town. read more

How disappointing. First time back in several months and food was not the best - least I say terrible? I ordered salmon which was so dry it couldn't be eaten- had trouble getting fork thru the crust (crust on salmon?) dry dry dry. Ordered California blend as veggie - got Normandy - YECK. Hubby ordered medium rare steak and got well done. Others in our party experienced the same if not worse. Service- although never really the best- was the pits. Wait 25 minutes for a beer? Get real We told our server - when we could find her- about the terrible food. She just stood there and said nothing before walking away. Will we go back? Maybe in a month with a blue moon if then. read more

Ate there first time last night. Food was fantastic. Had fish which was cooked perfect. Wife had prime rib which was good as well. Dinners come with three sides. Staff was friendly. Will definitely be back. Price was reasonable. read more

Nice place for a good steak and country, home cooking atmosphere. Overall average value. They also have clam strips. Yum

French fried were burnt and cold. Backed sweet potato sent back because cold. Ruben sandwich might have been good if it was served hot. Do not recommend. Waitress was trying to serve food and also in the bar read more

Like baseball, 3 strikes, and you're out. If I hadn't been invited (with another 'I told you so' for the party), I would never have gone. If you go and sit in the bar room, you should be OK. If you have a kid, and you're in the family room, forget it. You'll be ignored until you just give up and leave. Prices are too high for the quality of the food, which isn't that good. Steaks were tough, and seasoned way too salty. The last time time I was there, my "boneless" fish dinner was nothing BUT bones. The garlic butter dip was not that - it was literally grease drippings in a cup from the grille, so it smelled and look. It had to be. I think the waitress thought she was being funny or something? It literally smelled like sewer! And the thing is, I wasn't being rude to her. I simply asked for the garlic butter, as it was missing from the order. I guess that made her mad. Being in the bar room, the service was OK, as we ordered alcohol. Do that, and they'll pay attention to you. But this last time, after nearly throwing up from the smell of the "butter", I have to say that I will never go back. High prices, mediocre to poor food, and attempted poisoning? No thanks. read more

We went to Klepz's for mothers 86th birthday and it was one of the worst dining experiences we ever had. There was one table besides us ( there were 7 of us) it took our waitress 20 minutes to get our drinks and an hour to get our food. When the food came everything that was fried was burnt my son ordered cheese sticks and they were so burnt there was no cheese in them. We had entrees that had a salad and applesauce that was brought after the entrée after we asked for them. While we were waiting on our food our waitress sat down at a table across from us and was eating her food. Also our plates were not cleared from our table. We paid with a debit card and added the tip in the total. When I checked my bank statement on Monday (we were there on Sunday) I discovered we had been overcharged for a extra drink and also the total had been changed. I called Monday,Tuesday, and Wednesday asking for the manager or owner, finally on Wed. I got a guy that said he was acting manager I told him what happened he said come in on Thurs and talk to this girl ( I won't mention names) and she would take care of it. So on Thurs I drove to Seeleyville (I live in Brazil) only to be told she did not have the authority to give me my money back. I left my name & number the owner (Lori) attempted to call me on Fri. around 11 a.m. I returned her call at 1:30 p.m. and she was already gone they said she would call me Sat. She didn't. I waited until Mon. When I called the girl I talked to said I will call Lori right now The girl I talked to called me back (same girl I talked to on Thurs) and said I could come and get my money back and they would give me a $20.00 gift card. I got my money and told them to keep the gift card because I will never eat there again. The owner never called me to apologize. That is no way to run a business. I had to give them 1 star to post this but they don't deserve it. read more

We eat at Kleptz often since we are close by. On the weekends they have prime rib that's always good. I'm not crazy about the steaks but the bluegill and walleye are always good. Good value for the size of the meal. read more

What's not to like about this place, great food, great drink choices, and good service. The food is just fantastic, and you get plenty of it. If you decide to order an entree, you will also get three sides to go along with it so leaving here hungry just doesn't happen. As far as drinks go they got you covered with lots of beer choices and a very extensive spirits menu as well. Food choices range from steaks and pork chops to fish, crab cakes, and lobster tails. They also have a variety of sandwiches to select from as well if your not in the mood for a full meal or want to stop in for lunch. read more

Amazing steak, fun take on jalapeño poppers! Onion strings are tasty and super fresh.

Cons: Their food. Menu said fresh, fresh from a frozen box or can! Pros: Service was good, nice bar.

This was a place we would stop in few and far between because of the drive from our house it was always great and we would recommend it to others, tonight will be the last time we ever eat there,it was hands done the worst food I have ever been served.it was either boiling hot in the center or cold, soup had a skin on it when it was delivered and the salmon didn't even look like it was from a real fish.the rolls were tough and cold and it took a looooong time to get our food when it wasn't busy.the waiter was good and apologetic and took my wife's meal off the ticket, but the cook/kitchen staff should be replaced and the microwave gotten rid of.again sad to say we will not return or recommend when this was a well loved place we infrequently visited but looked forward to.whatever new changes the owners did needs to be discarded and the old ways returned. read more

Service tonight was horrible. Waitress seemed to be to overloaded and the restaurant was pretty empty. Ordered an appetizer "The Pounder" came out cold, cheese was cold and no attempt to even melt it by the kitchen staff. Was told it would be taken off the check. Well that didn't happen. Manager's didn't even attempt to intervene. On a positive note our meals came out good but the service killed it for us. read more

The beer selection was great. The menu has a great selection too and the prices are very reasonable. The quality of food is what you would expect at the low prices. The flavors resembled that of hot common family owned diner, but there lacks any signature dishes. I had the chicken parmesan entree which came with a salad, spaghetti, garlic bread and cottage cheese. I suspect all the items were purchased from the local bulk food store and prepared by the instructions on the back of the box or can. It all tasted fine, but nothing to tell your friends about. I also ordered a locally brewed sour wheat ale on draft which really surprised me. Small out-of-the-way places like this don't typically have need like that, so that was a nice surprise. The building, atmosphere and service were all excellent. By the looks of the exterior I was not expecting such a wonderful dining room. Within a 10 mile radius this is definitely my top pick for lunch or dinner. read more

Service tonight was pretty good, but the food left a lot to be desired. Anything fried was hard as a rock and had no flavor. If you do eat here, I recommend sticking to anything grilled. The aussie steak had no flavor and tasted like it may as well have been a hamburger. Sorry Kleptz, you left a big table of people very disappointed in your quality. read more

They have one of the best steaks Ive had i a long. I wished I knew what they seasoned it in. I would have visited more often if I'd know. Prices are great. You can get sandwiches and a beer if you want casual, or steaks and lobsters if you want a more grand meal. Service was great. Attentive without pushy. If you haven't tired this place, do yourself a favor and you'll thank yourself later. read more

My family and I used to frequent Kleptz. Honestly, we were probably there once a week. The last few times we have been there, it has been less and less pleasing. Tonight, we went for the first time in months. My daughter ordered the kids spaghetti, my fiancee ordered a mushroom and Swiss burger, and I had the Patty melt without onions. All of our sides were the fried chips because they are always outstanding. When served our food, we were shocked that all of our chips were no more than half cooked! They were raw! So raw that there was no way our server didn't notice when she brought them out. Our sandwiches were wonderful, but the server took forever to get refills and we should have asked for two drinks at once because that's how thirsty we had gotten. With ours being the only table in the family dining area, this was all just unacceptable. I hate to say it Kleptz, but we will not be back. read more

Don't order the $9.99 steak sandwich. They have changed the type of meat for this sandwich and it is tough as old shoe leather. The Hoosier Tenderloin is not the large one they used to serve. The service was OK but had to keep asking the waitress for a to-go box. We have driven from Greenwood, IN several times a year to enjoy this restaurant; however, we won't be making the trip again. The quality of the food is comparable with a fast food place. Terribly disappointed. read more
