Don't get me wrong, I love me a Monical's pizza. But sometimes you want more. Casey's... Yea, okay. Pizza Hut? Maybe when you're craving that pan pizza grease bomb. But a good medium crust pizza? Well, this is it. Check the pics. Hand tossed. Crispy on the bottom (but not tough). A little chewy, but not too much, still soft. Toppings on top of the sauce and cheese. Plenty of toppings, in big pieces so each bite is a little different. Not too much cheese, so you can actually taste the toppings. And wine?!?!! Yes, please. YUM! I look forward to trying more of the menu. A great addition to town, and I love that it's downtown.

The atmosphere is very dark, and it's off putting how poor the interior of the room we were seated in looked--tables stacked upside down on other tables, piles of chairs blocking a door, and wall decor that looks like someone went garage sale shopping. The bread was over baked. The salad with house dressing was the best part of the meal. The meals LOOKED great, but did not taste good at all. I had Chicken Capelini--the texture of the chicken was like overly cooked pre-boiled chicken that was thrown in a pan to brown it. It somehow it managed to be dry and rubbery while floating in a sea of thin broth. My husband's veal was not a cutlet as one might expect, but rather bits of some kind of beef that I strongly suspect were not veal. The damablanca sauce was also super thin with no hint of the usual brandy or Cognac one would expect. It basically tasted like watered down Alfredo sauce.

The food, service and ambiance was outstanding. Such a special place. You can see the love and care…read morethat goes into every dish that is prepared as well as the personal treatment they give to every guest. We met the owner, who cooks many of their signature dishes, his daughter who manages the restaurant, and his granddaughter who was the hostess that night. We happened to be traveling through the area, celebrating our 50th anniversary, and they went out of their way to make it a memorable night for us! The restaurant has the feeling of a your smaller, neighborhood Italian restaurant that makes their dishes from recipes that have been passed down from one generation to the next. By the time we left, they made us feel like we were part of their extended family, if only for an evening. And when you're traveling on the road, that's a mighty nice feeling! Do yourself a favor, the next time you are in the area, plan on making this a destination. It's well worth it! (Consider making a reservation or at least calling ahead because they are pretty popular.)

The bad: The wait staff was not very engaged. I wanted this review to be about the food but that just wasn't meant to be. The Ugly: I am very well travelled on 3 continents. I've dined elegantly as well as from street vendors and I have NEVER had service that was this off putting to the point of being overtly rude, and I am an American who has eaten in France and doesn't speak much French. When we wouldn't sit at the bar, even though the main area was only 1/4 occupied They moved our party of 2 into the side room with chairs up on tables. It went downhill from there. Due to this, it wasn't possible to really enjoy what should have been a fine meal. I will say it is a wise policy to ask for payment and tip ahead of this type of service before it is provided.

I am writing about a delivery, so I can't comment on the restaurant itself. I took a star off because they did not provide any utensils or napkins in the delivery bag which made for a delayed meal since I had to go searching for a fork. The garden salad was very good. So crisp and fresh. The tomatoes were yummy, and I liked the surprise of celery amoungst the greens. The greens were mixed and not just iceberg which elevated the salad quite a bit. I always say I judge an Italian restaurant by their sauce, and this one was ok. Very sweet. Not thick. It wanted for something. I ordered the half portion of angel hair pasta, and it was still a very generous amount. I added a meatball which tasted more like an Italian sausage in a ball with a bit of spice and a chewier consistency. I wasn't mad at it, but it wasn't the seasoned ground beef crumble I expected. All in all, the meal was good, just lacking in some of things I expected from a place everyone seemed to like about it. I would probably go back and maybe try some of the other dishes next time I am in Terre Haute, if only to see if maybe it was just that order.

The ambience is a mixture of a French restaurant meeting an Italian restaurant somehow looking like an American Diner with a menu that had a little of everything. Our server was very attentive even though the restaurant was full and she seemed to be the only server. She was delightful and gave us good recommendations. My coworker ordered a Caprese Panini and a Caesar salad. Obviously this wasn't my recommendation if you've read any of my other reviews! She said it was a great sandwich but wasn't a fan of the homemade chips. I was impressed that she didn't give me the stink eye when I explained my need to photograph her food :) I had the lunch portion of chicken parmesean that was really good. Nice portion of chicken and pasta and a great flavor - I would definitely order it again. Oddly, this came with a side of my choice just like the sandwich menu. I chose a side of fries and they were ok fries. Nothing Earth shattering but not bad. It's a great lunch option at a reasonable price and I'd return if I found myself in the area. Where else can I get a burger, a tenderloin, an order of onion rings and a fettuccine Alfredo all from the same place!?

Disclaimer: this visit was on Mother's Day so we understood that it would be crowded with longer wait time. First time in restaurant. The tables are packed claustrophobic tight. Or table was smack up against the side of the salad bar. I was afraid my hair would get in the lettuce. Every time someone walked past our table they bumped into the chairs. Payment is No cards, cash/check only and this info is NOT published anywhere but on a notecard taped to the cash register which was blocked from view as we were seated. Not on the door, not on the website. I see it's here in the comments on Yelp, but I had poor signal and didn't do a review search, just looked at the website. Poor treatment by owners - attitude was not "I'm sorry for your poor experience" but "I'm sorry you're complaining, get lost." Carry out orders and friends and locals seemed to receive priority service. Mediocre, overpriced food. "Baked" pasta dish was runny, mozzarella barely melted, meat sauce with barely any meat, way too sweet. Garlic bread with very little garlic. Pizza crust was hard, flavorless, over cooked on edges. Sauce (to me) has a weird chemical-like taste. Toppings were not fresh, mushrooms were canned, pizza was under cooked in the middle. Wait time - it was one hour until someone told us it was ready to come out in a couple of minutes..... then it actually was another 30 minutes or more later, during which the waiter avoided us like the plague until we flagged him down and asked when our food would be out, then another ten minutes after that. After reading reviews, it would seem that the time deception is a sanctioned tactic. Finally, after going to the car, retrieving an old checkbook, and writing a check with a generous tip in spite of the deficiencies, we politely expressed that they should publish their payment policy and how wait time was misrepresented. Received a very curt response. Left an honest comment on the community fb page and was threatened, cursed, and called every name in the book by most of the friendly "locals." But hey, social media, right? The rudeness on a busy day could have been easier to forgive if everything else had been five star, but the food really isn't worth the price and the wait. And jeez, Monticello....I'm afraid to drive through town, much less eat at this restaurant again.

We were greeted at the door by the host who opened the door and welcomed us inside. He quickly seated us and we were then greeted by one of the waitstaff who offered us tap water or sparkling water while we waited for our server. The ambiance of the restaurant is very pleasant, dark wood decor, lovely dining music playing. There were only a couple of other tables with customers so it was a pretty relaxed setting, but u can imagine this would be a lovely date night spot or group dinner venue. We enjoyed our dishes (pictures included) and unlike other Italian restaurants that often provide huge portions, these meals were appropriately portioned and filling. We also had the tiramisu for dessert; it was different than what we are accustomed too. Much more creamy and more like a pudding than a cake. Overall we enjoyed our experience and dinner!
