Can't go wrong at Turnstiles! Quite literally something for everyone, high quality food and entertainment almost every day of the week. God-tier chicken sandwiches with so many ways to customize flavors and heat-level. The And the burgers are quite honestly the best in Grand Rapids. Always an eclectic mix of people there, always feel welcome!

Black Dahlia Burger was ok. cooked well but didn't really get the bacon jam taste at all

This is one of those experiences where it really wasn't a 4-star, and it was slightly better than a 3-star (OK), and therefore 3.5-stars would be perfect. So we'll just round up to a 4-star review since nothing here was really bad or a major downer. We got there late on a Monday night. I believe the bartender said the kitchen is open until 10-ish. Looking over the menu she said the Black Dahlia Burger was popular, and another favorite is the LaPatty Melt. So that's what we ordered. I like how all the burgers come with waffle fries - it's not an additional cost. Guy next to us ordered a Cluck Norris. It looked good. Our food comes out in about 10-15 min. First off - the waffle fries were really good. Very crispy and good flavor. We asked for a side of mayo and the honey siracha (50 cents each). She said they make the mayo in-house, it was pretty good but tasted like regular mayo - yet still good. Honey siracha was solid flavor, some smokiness to it. She was right about the Patti LaMelt. It was the highlight, pretty solid burger and good flavor. The Black Dahlia was okay, somewhat of a letdown. I didn't get much of that bacon jam flavor at all and I think it just lacked that "wow factor" I was expecting. That (along w/ the premium $15 price tag) is what put this review in the 3-star range. Had it been more flavorful with bountiful bacon jam it would be a solid 4-stars. These burgers aren't cheap, $14-15 per is a premium price and I would expect it to be a premium experience. But we loved the crispy waffle fries here, and dipping them in a ketchup-mayo mix. I like how they make several sauces, wanted to try them all but there's a charge for them, and the Patty LaMelt was pretty good. Plus she gave good recommendations too, and that basically made this a good experience overall. I am definitely interested in trying out other items there - the chicken, the loaded fries look great too, and interested in that Cambodian too.

I'm so glad I finally tried this place! I had their pesto burger and my friend had "girl dinner" (appetizers). We also tried their raspberry beret and it was so good. The food and drinks were amazing and the staff were so attentive to everyone even though it was busy. They would check on our table every 10 minutes or so to make sure we were taken care of. I would definitely come back again especially to check out the live music! Pro tip: After 8pm on the weekends it gets busy so plan to go earlier to get parking. My friend came late and the parking lot was full.

Cannot recommend enough, we had fantastic service and even more fantastic food! We shared a half order of the Nachos with chorizo which was delicious and more than enough to enjoy as a meal, and I tried the Desert Rose cocktail that became one of my new favorite drinks. We tried a couple burgers, the Black Dahlia was great and Job for a Cowboy was even better. They came quickly and were served with waffle fries which usually aren't my favorite but they were seasoned and so so yummy! There was live music by a local band when we went and they really added to the vibe. We will definitely be back soon :)

GR Cheeseburger Tour, stop 2: I heard Turnstile burgers were fantastic and saw evidence of that on social media! We happened to go on a Tuesday, so I took advantage of their "See You Next Tuesday" special, The Patty Mayonaise! It was loaded with flavor from the two Patties, Swiss Cheese, Caramelized White Onions, Manzanillo Green Olives, and Mayo. What an incredible burger! Eli tried the Black Dahlia and it was delicious as well. My ranking for the Patty Mayonaise is: 1. Meat patty quality/taste - 4/5 2. Condiments to patty ratio - 5/5 3. Overall burger appearance - 4/5 4. Bun quality - 5/5 (loved the crispy bread!) 5. Restaurant ambiance 3/5 Overall score: 21 out of 25!

I've been to Turnstiles a handful of times, but I've never eaten there, which is truly a shame. (Shout out to The GRand Taco GR competition for giving me the boost I needed to eat there!) Turnstiles doesn't look like somewhere that would necessarily have amazing food (and I don't mean this as an insult- grungy is just their vibe!) but MAN their food blew me away! We started with pretzel bites and fried pickles. The pretzel bites were like biting into a cloud, and had the perfect amount of salt The fried pickles? PERFECT ratio of pickle to breading. Perfectly crunchy. Perfectly everything. Please buy me these for my birthday. Now to the important part.... the tacos! These tacos were birria style, with delicious pico, and a nice jalapeño drizzle The meat on these tacos were SO flavorful. I took one home and forgot to take any sauce to dip it, and it was STILL delicious! I was in awe. My friends got some other entrees, and my favorite was the mac of all trades! It had chicken, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower in it! Soooo tasty! 10/10 would order again!

I have seen the Turnstiles sign from the expressway and have always wanted to stop so this weekend I did. We found a great parking spot right in front near the door. If you can't find parking there is another lot across the street. We got in before cover charge and found a seat at the bar. Lisa waited on us and Joel "a local regular" as he called himself helped us navigate the menu. Both were extremely pleasant and helpful. I had delicious drink called the raspberry Beret after Prince and my mother enjoyed Jameson Straight. We had an order of wings share between the both of us, dry run with a dipping sauce and those wings were perfect. So tasty I wanted to naw on the bones. There was an EDM vibe happening this particular night. Face painting and a very cool raffle. We were given a ticket and they called the number at 11pm. Unfortunately we did not win but we enjoyed people watching, food, drinks and company. There are many theme days in the month of March they were advertised. I liked that they had a VAP dispenser machine, pinball machine and a jukebox. I could have atayed in the bathroom reading all the graffiti in quotes on the walls. I was cracking up in there. A clean, decorated well and fun. Overall a great night out.

Nate and I have visited Turnstiles a handful of times now, and each time we always leave talking about how great the place is. They have live music most every night and offer a welcoming atmosphere while still feeling a bit like a dive bar. The food is pretty great - we've had the nachos a couple times which are some of the best in town. We get them with chorizo and it's a little spicy - the chips are thin and crispy yet somehow hold up to all the toppings. I like that they use shredded melted cheese and not cheese sauce. The smoky / sweet salsa that comes with them is not my fave but Nate likes it. We've also gotten the chicken tenders and they were super crispy and a big portion. I love that they have Bosco sticks on their menu - what a throwback. They're super tasty too. Service has been really good the last couple of times we've been and sat at a table. Sitting at the bar has been a bit hit or miss for us. I think the owner stopped by our table last time we were there and chatted which was nice. I really appreciate that they have a full list of nonalcoholic cocktails - I am seeing more of this these days which I think is great. I personally have been cutting back on alcohol lately so I love finding places with good n/a options. I got the spirit free desert rose which was a bit sweet and really good. Because I'm old, I don't love loud music especially when I'm trying to enjoy dinner, so we usually leave before the music starts, but they have fun theme nights and open mic etc. so there is something for everyone. The big parking lot is appreciated - get away from the hustle and bustle of Bridge Street at Turnstiles!

    The Good Burger
    Victoria S.

Summary: Burgers are AWESOME, aesthetic is...different? I've been hearing a lot about Turnstiles and have seen multiple posts in EatGR raving about the food, so this restaurant has been on my list of "must try" for forever! My friend and I came in on a Wednesday night around 7pm. I didn't know that they had their own parking lot, so it was refreshing to see since I thought I was going to have to find street parking. We walked in and saw a sign that directed us to seat ourselves. We made the mistake of choosing a table by the bathroom. I can confirm that the smell of toilet mixed with greasy goodness is a big nono. I definitely won't be making that mistake again. For food, I got the Good Burger - Two 4oz smash patties, parmesan garlic olive spread, melted Swiss, lettuce, and grilled onion on a brioche bun. Wow, freaking DELICIOUS! I don't even know if I want to try anything else on the menu, just because I loved this burger so much. The parmesan garlic olive spread was laid on thick, but not so thick that it overpowered the burger. The buns sucked in all of the grease, and the patties were hefty. All around a great burger to eat when you're craving one. My friend got the Steaky McSteakface - Grilled steak strips, caramelized onions, pepper jack cheese, shreddy pickles, with horsey aioli on an onion roll. She got the aioli on the side since she's not a fan of spice. She enjoyed her sandwich as well. Both sandwiches came with a heaping side of waffle fries. I was stuffed after eating three quarters of my burger, and ended up packing the fries up to bring home to my husband. I ordered the Cowboys from Hell burger for my husband - Two 4oz smash patties, peppered bacon, haystack onions, and American cheese, drizzled with BBQ ranch and served on a brioche bun. He said that it was pretty good; I think that he would really love The Good Burger as well. Now down to aesthetic - I don't have much to say here other than that it was...different than what I expected? The interior isn't full of color, but it also isn't grungy. It's just very...different. And not in a bad way! It's just hard to explain. But the food is awesome, the guys are super nice and incredible, and I want that burger again!

    Fried Pickles

Pretty cool spot that I constantly see people raving about on social media. It had a clean dive bar feel during a weekday lunch service. It looks like it turns more into a bar at night with live music and bouncer. The bar had quite a few people but we were the only ones sitting at a table. The bartender took care of us and he was very friendly and made a few suggestions. My only complaint was that they didn't have any Bosco Sticks left! The bartender recommended the Fried Pickles and they were fantastic. So thin and lightly breaded made them arguably the best fried pickles I've ever had. For lunch, I had the Patti LaMelt and my wife/daughter shared the Mayhem Mac. The portions were pretty big and the price was reasonable. The waffle fries were crispy and delicious. We both thought our meals were very good! We will definitely come back. Don't judge this restaurant from the outside!

    Krafty Mac N Cheese
    Melissa B.

I was hearing rave reviews about this place all over social media so I was excited to check it out as they just opened within the last couple months. They have a huge parking lot which is great! Lots of different food options and everything sounds fantastic. I opted for the krafty Mac n cheese which includes chorizo, red onions, tomatoes, breadcrumbs, scallions, and a creamy jalapeño drizzle. So yummy and quite a big portion, I was able to take some home for leftovers. They have a large bar and a stage area and this seems like it would be a fun place to see some live music or attend an event. Excited to see where this place goes!

Fun menu. Group work event had Mayhem Mac and loved the green broccoli added into. Loved the atmosphere and free local parking in downtown! Multiple servers made billing and ordering a little challenging.

So when my family and I were walking around downtown Grand Rapids and needed a place to eat breakfast, we popped into Social Misfits because their menu is basically 90% waffles. My kids love waffles. Every kid loves waffles. Waffles it is! This is a great restaurant for families (because ... waffles), but also a great restaurant for adults because they have a nice selection of creative cocktails in the evening, and coffee in the morning. Social Misfits is basically waffles, alcohol and caffeine, in that order. When we visited in the morning, the adults opted for coffee (really great black coffee!) and the kids both opted for the Little Lad, a waffle topped with strawberries, blueberries and chantilly cream (basically whipped cream, but a little sweeter and whipped a little longer). Both of my children ate most of their waffle, which is a big thing, considering they usually eat like birds. We also got the Son of a Biscuit, which was a garlic parmesan waffle topped with chicken sausage gravy and a fried egg. You could add fried chicken to the mix for an extra $6 (we did not). This one was fine, but the egg was way overcooked! Oh well. Lastly: We got the Ol' Blue Eyes, a waffle topped with blueberry compote, lemon curd, whipped ricotta and graham cracker crumbs. This one tasted amazing, but there was so much blueberry compote and lemon curd that it made the waffle a bit soggy. I think the chef was feeling generous with the toppings, but homie needed to hold back a tad. Sometimes, a little bit goes a long way! Fifty percent less gloppy stuff would have made this waffle dish 100% better. If you ain't really about that waffle life, then not to worry. Social Misfits also has a few "not waffles" items on the menu, like salads, sandwiches and a couple of bar snacks. But I think if you visit this restaurant, you need to just embrace waffles. There are more than a dozen different waffles on the menu. They're all fun and well-thought-out. Pick one and eat waffles for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
