This place is wonderful! On our way back to Anchorage from the Matanuska Glacier, I started to get hungry and so of course, I Yelped, and this restaurant came up. Again, thank goodness for Yelp because I didn't have to drive much further to eat. THE FOOD: We started with an appetizer which was a baked brie with sherry infused figs, cherries, nuts, and honey and let me tell you, it was the BOMB! I've never had brie with honey and sweetness but the combination is excellent and is something I will look forward to having back home. Since it was cold outside, I had the firefly chai tea which had rooibos, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla. This tea had two sides which were cream and honey and again, magnificent! The tea was not sweet at all and it just warmed me to the core which was perfect for the weather since it was snowing outside. For my entree, I had the honey and mustard pistachio encrusted salmon with brown rice and asparagus and it was delicious! Just writing about it now, makes me want it NOW! We got the yogurt cheesecake with raspberries and that too was yummy. It wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of tartness to it. I was really excited about trying this little place! I heard great things. I am glad we checked it out. I love how the ingredients are so fresh, local, and eco-friendly! The menu is eclectic and modern. You can find something for almost everyone. The drink options are so cool (fresh teas and kombucha)! Turkey Red is in Palmer , Alaska . They are open from 7am to 9:00 pm and if you live in Anchorage they are worth the drive . They are the only restaurant in Alaska that I am aware of that includes the tip in the price of the meal . They have a pamphlet on each table explaining this choice . They have a wide choice of beverages , including juice , kefir milk , house brewed soda , wines and Alaskan beers . I had a wonderful Mediterranean Salad , mixed greens, spicy chickpeas , cucumber , tomato , kalamata olives , red onions ,feta cheese , tossed in a lemon vinaigrette and served with 4 slices of different delicious house baked bread . I chose the small version for $5.75 ! Wow tip included . I can't wait to come back . The breakfast menu looks great and they serve pizza and have a gourmet dinner menu . It was late afternoon before the dinner rush... the young fella got my order wrong. The food was okay, the tea was good... but the time it took was a bit ridiculous. So after paying my bill, walking out the door, I said "Can I have Macaroons, for free?". He gave me 2 macaroons in a pretty white bag. Upon arriving home, I gave them to my neighbor who is 78 year old Bonnie, in apt # 2. So I still don't know the hype about macaroons is, but the young man was so gracious to me that I always tip 25% of the bill, if they are nice people. A true gem in the valley or anywhere else in Alaska. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Palmer. It was exceptional under the original management and while there have been some hiccups over time it still shines brightly as a fabulous meal and friendly atmosphere. Bread puddings are top notch. I use to come to turkey red all the time for lunch.It is really sad to see how the service at Turkey Red has taken a turn for the worst. I was excited to take my family here and upon arriving we waited patiently to be seated. The hostess saw we were waiting and deliberately was seating customers ahead of us. I feel like we were being judged and it was a sad overall experience. We left and went elsewhere. Hopefully the food didn't follow suit as the customer service did. read more

Have been here a time or two before tonight's visit. Took the in-laws there for a nice dinner in Palmer. I can honestly say all 4 in our party were blown away by how amazing our dinners were! I had pasta magnifico (an unbelievable orange cream sauce w/fresh mint - sounds odd, but so so good) and a mixed greens salad w/house dressing (balsamic). DH had another pasta dish w/spinach, chicken & cream parm sauce. In-laws had chicken w/figs & an oriental chicken salad. All 4 were rave reviews. Toward the end of our meal the chef came out (he's from Florence, Italy) and told us that the family at the next table over supply all of the salad greens. Nice to know they really do use local. Great attentive (but not bothersome) waitstaff. Reasonable wait for our food to arrive. Loved my dinner and will definitely go there again. I've eaten at Turkey Red several times, but really am not impressed overall. The restaurant is always clean and the staff are friendly, but the food has made me ill the last two times I've eaten here. Once I had the polenta, and the second time I had the tomato soup of the day. Sadly, the dessert of cookies were also dry and not very tasty. I have lots of friends who love eating here, but I'm just not a fan, especially after having severe stomach cramps with a few hours of eating. The beef stew at Turkey Red is the pinnacle of rainy day comfort food, and unlike similar offerings elsewhere, there are generous helpings of meat in every bowl. They also have a nice selection of teas and an inexpensive dessert menu, both of which were fantastic on my visit (I had a cup of lapsang souchong and a lemon custard tart, which were just short of life-affirming taken together). Since I've done nothing but sing Turkey Red's praises so far, you're probably wondering, "What gives with the docked star?" The answer lies in the service, which was a bit slow and disjointed, even accounting for the rush of customers with whom my group arrived. Turkey Red offers many different options, i ordered the Lentil Burger with grilled onions, cucumbers, and a jalapeño feta spread, with a side cup of tomato vegetable soup. This is a really cute cafe and all of the food sounds delicious, but the execution is where it falls short. Things you should be amazed by are just okay. I think if they just tweak things a bit, it could be out of this world! Example: Pad Thai Cookie. Wow, that's original and when I was told it was peanut butter with ginger, lime & cayenne, I was really excited, but it only tasted like a peanut butter cookie with a spicy kick at the end. No trace of ginger or lime. The chicken pesto sandwich was good, but needed salt...badly. It was the same thing with the other 2 items we ordered. Great idea, but someone in the kitchen needs to start tasting things before they're sold & served. My family and I have been enjoying their fresh delicious goodies for years now. We especially love the chocolate croissants, rich buttery chocolate goodness! I liked the ambience inside and the fact it also had outdoor dining allowed you to have a pet. The food was excellent. I had the bruschetta, clams and a cappuccino to drink. I did not expect to find such an elegant restaurant in such a humble building Palmer however, the fragrant aroma of sizzling steak being prepared got my mouth watering! At first, I thought I had made a mistake and was simply walking into a bakery, which has its own fragrance aromas.
