A few weeks ago was our first visit to the Tunnel Top after seeing it on the map near our hotel on a whim while we waited for our friends to get ready for dinner. This was the coolest place! It's always such a wonderful surprise to find a new and awesome place to hang out. The drinks were really awesome, we actually wished we could have stayed much longer but our friends gave us word that dinner was starting soon, such a bummer! Then we shared our experience with a friend from Hawaii and it turns out Tunnel Top is his favorite bar too!!! He will fly into SFO no matter where he's going in CA just to stop in. The Tunnel Top bar has always intrigued me. I've seen it several times in my travels to San Francisco but never had the chance to drop in. The Mrs. and I finally were able to last night. We arrived around 6:30 and the Tunnel Top wasn't busy at all. We managed to find the perfect seat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly. The Mrs. and I gathered that the Tunnel Top was more of a local place. Which gives it even more character. Our drinks were good and we didn't feel out of place. The bartender was very good about checking ID on anyone who walked in the looked under 30. The Tunnel Top can best be described as a classy dive bar. My friend and I came on a Saturday night. The bar is quite dimly lit with the bar downstairs and more seating upstairs. We got our drinks very quickly and the bartender was friendly and efficient. We got the Strawberry fields and the watermelon gimlet. The watermelon was a little bit more bitter and the vodka was more pronounced. We agreed that the strawberry fields was better because it was a lot sweeter! Overall a good place to stop by for a drink, I'd recommend checking this place out. read more

This spot give me pub all day and it's in the perfect location for a bar. The inside on the second level wraps around. Started my night of bar hoping off here and it was a good spot to start with. Ordered a a dark and stormy, and their version of an old fashion with its nice notes of cinnamon. Chill music and a very chill crowd ,drinks are good not too much money and that's always a win. The dartender here was really nice and got me my drink in a short amount of time. I went on a Thursday, so there wasn't a huge crowd but it looks like it's very welcoming to their regulars and new guest a like. Parking is a bit of a hassle, but that's just SF in general so take an Uber if you can or else prepare them calves cuz it's a walk up that hill depending on where you park. Their HH ends at 7:30 which is great compared to many nearby venues. The other selling point is the inexpensive (for SF) drinks. For one reason or another we always consider stopping by whenever in the area. This is not a destination dive bar but it will pull you in due to its central location, near Union Square, the Chinatown gate, Nob Hill, right above the Stockton Tunnel. It is near bars and restaurants so it's very good as a pregame or after dinner spot. Go early evening to avoid the crowds, and well, for HH pricing specials. The later the night goes the more crowded it gets and doesn't ever let up. read more

This bar is super cute. It is right off bush so there are a ton of options to go to. This is definitely a place you should stop by on a bar hopping kind of night. The bartender was spectacular in making drinks and just a kind guy. I placed my drink on a table and when I sat down it spilled everywhere. The bartender made us a replacement right away. We were running early for dinner at a friend's house. Since Tunnel Top was on the way, we decided to stop by for one drink. My friend and I walked in on Friday, July 14th around 6:30pm. It wasn't super busy, so we were able to find two seats on the left side of the bar. Happy Hour: until 7:30pm *Barrel Aged Manhattan: woodford reserve, carpano antica, angostura bitters ($8) *Tunnel Top Old Fashioned: bulleit bourbon, bitters, cherries ($8) Drinks are originally $10, but lucky for us, we went during HH, so we got $2 off each cocktail. I enjoyed the manhattan. It was made well and I like woodford reserve. My friend seemed to enjoy his old fashioned as well. I like bulleit, so I'm sure I would have enjoyed it too if I tried some. Our bartender was great. Very friendly. We never had to flag him down to get his attention. One thing that did bother me while here was the cleanliness of their glasses. I ordered a glass of water and the glass was dirty. Unfortunately, I didn't notice it until after I started drinking the water, so that kind of grossed me out a bit. Cute little spot over on Bush Street. First time was for Santacon and it was a blast! Love their drinks. Had the spicy mango margarita and it was just right. Their space is cozy and rustic looking. They have an upstairs where people can lounge and hangout. The downstairs is small and has the bar. Definitely a good spot to start with and then head out to other bars. This is definitely one of our favourite dive bars in the area! Their mixed drinks are pretty standard but they have a fresh berry mojito that's my absolute favourite to get. We usually stop by on Saturday evenings on our way home from a late afternoon out so it's pretty early still (around 6pm) and it's usually not overly busy or crowded, which is the environment we prefer. They used to play heavier music but that seems to have gone away and is replaced by pop and dancey songs. Atop the Stockton Tunnel, lies a diamond in the rough. Tunnel Top maybe a divey bar but it has so many redeeming factors. It even has a chandelier made of wine bottles. How cool is that? 1. NO COVER. NO DRESS CODE. NO ATTITUDE. 2. CHEAP DRINKS: $7 for a shot of Hendrick's (yes, I'm crazy like that) in Union Square? Unheard of. 3. AWESOME CROWD: The mixed crowd was easy going, friendly, and knows HOW to have fun. Props to the white boys upstairs getting all hifey doing the "bus driver dance". MEZZANINE FLOOR: Great for people watching below BUT ladies please...from the bar below, I can see your panties or lack thereof when you're standing near the railing. Kindly keep your cha-cha covered till after 2 AM. Thanks. Tunnel Top is a cockfest (which is why we left against my will) but my friend was right...you can be wearing a muu muu dress with a lampshade over your head and the guys won't give even a sh*t.
