It pains me to write this review... It really does because I've never been treated with anything but the utmost courtesy in this store, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Tumi is, to be quite frank, ripping their customers off with their sky-high prices and shoddy workmanship.
I purchased a Tumi briefcase in September 2014--an anniversary present that was supposed to replace my old briefcase which lasted me 10 years, but that I'd grown tired of. Now let's be clear about this bag: It's expensive...as in I've paid less for top-quality luggage. So I expect, when the seams began to fray after only one year, that Tumi will do what is right and repair the bag. I was happy enough not to have a replacement and didn't really expect one anyway since the bag is no longer in Tumi's line.
But did Tumi fix my bag? No they did not! In fact, they had it for over four weeks before telling me, in a response to an email *that I sent them*, that the... "damage is due to normal wear and tear". What absolute nonsense! No bag at this price point, not Tumi's...not anybody's, starts to shed fibers this quickly. My Glasser Designs SF briefcase sure didn't, and for those of you who know Glasser, you know exactly how tough a bag can be. That bag is in better condition ten years after I purchased it, than my Tumi bag after only 15 months.
So...after six full weeks, I finally receive my bag back, fibers still shedding off the seams on the back and front. (To be fair, Tumi did replace the monogram plate where the stitching was unraveling.) But I would caution anyone about these stylish pieces of shoddy workmanship: The Tumi name is all you get when you buy one of their bags. You do not get a quality product, nor a company that will stand behind it.
I've purchased my first, last, and only Tumi bag. read more
