We've been to this place probably 5-6 times so it's about time I reviewed it! The good: my son love love loves the Mac and cheese (sans bread crumbs because bread crumbs have no place on Mac and cheese!) I'm also a fan of their grilled cheese and tomato soup. It hits the spot. Their cocktails are reasonably priced and are also quite tasty). The not-so-good: the atmosphere is odd. It's like Furr's meets Mimi's and really doesn't do the food justice. They've dropped the odd practice of ordering up front and then going to the table. Everything now happens at the table, as it should, but the front cash register area still remains. Just odd. Plus, their salads are 95% lettuce, 5% toppings, so the back half of ordering a salad means you're on a treasure hunt for anything other than leafs to eat. Not a huge fun of that. But overall, it is a dependable, mid-priced alternative that feeds the kiddo while making sure we can enjoy our meal too. Solid alternative, if not amazing. read more

Went here with my family to give this place a try, but I wasn't to pleased with it. This restaurant is like a sister chain to Dion's. The inside was cute. It gave off family home vibes. Our server was nice. I ordered the chicken scallopini and it wasn't too flavorful. Chicken was a bit salty. I had to mix it since the sauce was at the bottom of the plate. This dish came with pasta, chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes and asparagus. My friend ordered the Club and it was pretty decent. Also there hibiscus sweet tea wasn't sweet at all. Tula's is an easy choice for repeat visits. A group of us sat on their enclosed outside patio on a brisk day with spits of drizzly rain with no discomfort thanks to the very effective heaters installed for that area. There's supposedly air conditioning out there for summer comfort as well. Only downside is that they offer a rather limited menu, though there's enough diversity that most if not all tastes can be accommodated. And the dishes they do offer they do very well. Each time we go we are pleasantly surprised with the service, presentation of the food and the overall welcoming and friendly staff. There was a slight mix up with our appetizers but the staff made sure to compensate for the issue. I enjoyed the beef kabobs cooked to med and they were fall apart delicious! My husband had the breaded chicken sandwich and the homemade pickles were so tasty! We enjoyed our complimentary dessert, ice box pie. It is a must!!! Tula's for lunch with friends the other day was perfect. The dining area is comfortably furnished with a variety of seating, and the decor is comfortable and stylishly homey, like a friend's kitchen. The service was excellent and friendly. We quickly ordered drinks and a charcuterie board, and they arrived very quickly. The quick delivery of the board was welcome because we were starving. The board came with 3-4 kinds of meat, 2-3 types of cheese, marcona almonds, grapes, fig jam, olives, small stuffed peppers and a good amount of crostini. The little peppers were sweet and juicy and exploded in your mouth. For drinks, Tula's offers soft drinks, Italian sodas, beer, wine, and several specialty cocktails and mocktails. For entrees, we chose a mix. One friend had a specialty grilled cheese sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. Another had the chopped BLT salad with chicken, and I chose the prime rib sandwich with carmelized onions and cheese. All were delicious and very large portions. For my side, I chose the cucumber salad and it was refreshing and well dressed. I took half my prime rib sandwich home and enjoyed it the next day. I just had the worst service in my life on my birthday at Tula's. I even asked to speak to a manager and they did nothing We went to Tula's with our elderly parents. They told us the wait would be a half hour. Well after a half hour had pasted they sat us outside in the freezing patio area. I think if the patio is going to be open in winter they should ask ahead of time if you want to sit in the patio. Even with space heaters it was freezing. After seeing if we could move inside and being told it would be another ten minute wait we decided to stay outside and went on to be ignored by our waitress, CALI, for another ten minutes. When she finally arrived I informed her we had been waiting an hour by this point and were ready to order. Her reaction was to be completely rude the rest of the time we were there. She only checked on us once. We ended up getting up and grabbing the ice tea pitcher and refilling our own tea. We also ended up getting our own boxes from the bar area. I mentioned it was my birthday. and In the past we got ice cream but she said she would bring it and never did. After waiting in the cold for our check forever I finally asked for a manager. I spoke to Isaiah. He literally did nothing. He just looked surprised and nodded. I walked off and then our tickets came. No apologies or anything. The food was still good. I just feel like a fool because I've been recommending this place to everyone and they absolutely ruined my birthday and Cali was the rudest person I have ever had as a waitress. read more

I went to Tulas on a Saturday afternoon and although it was crowded was seated very quickly. I had the airline chicken and it was delicious! Not dried out at all and paired well with the mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. It's a cozy & comfortable concept...you enter and pick your selections off the display menu board or you can take your time and step aside and really ponder your choices if you need more time. You order at the counter and they give you a number you display at the table in which you seat yourself. I chose to sit at the bar. I enjoyed a lavender Paloma drink that was very delicious and my entree was the CHICKEN SCALLOPINI 16.50 Crispy chicken breast served over pasta and broccolini, tossed with tomatoes, mushrooms, white wine and butter pan sauce, and herbs. It was quite delicious, the sauce had a lemony herb flavor with tons of delicious capers, and mushrooms and tomatoes. It was very tasty! I really enjoyed my dining experience. You pay at the end of your meal. I'll definitely go back after a few months when the newness has settled in and they have more staff. When we got in, there were a lot of people standing around at the front, and it wasn't until a few minutes had passed that we were told there's a waitlist before ordering. The food was just ok. My friend and I both ordered chicken tenders, one friend got kabobs, and another got chicken scallopini. We were all in agreement that there was nothing bad about the food, but there wasn't anything memorable about the meal either. We got some alcoholic beverages and those were pretty tasty. I was excited to try this place but unfortunately I left completely disappointed. Upon arrival, we were told that the wait would be around 45-50 minutes. It was a bit longer wait than I expected but once I realized how small the place was I ended up just forgetting about the wait. We were finally seated and waited about 10 more minutes before our server came up. We finally ordered and our food took over 40 minutes to come out. I had a straight view of the expo line and watched as our food sat there for at least 10 minutes. When my food arrived, it was cold and extremely salty (pretty sad for a $21 plate). My friend's pulled pork sandwich was extremely dry and cold as well. All together, this meal took 2 and a half hours to complete. Oh and when they were clearing the table, the waitress dropped a steak knife on my friend's back. She just said sorry and kept walking away. The menu looks delicious but this place needs some help. I hope they can iron this out before they open the new location. I don't think I will be back but if you're wondering, I know Dion's next door would've been 10000x better. read more

I've been wanting to check out Tula's Kitchen for a while now, but the reviews have been all over the place. We decided to give it a shot during the dinner rush on a Friday night. The restaurant is located in the old IHOP restaurant next to Dion's on Paseo. It still has the restaurant/kitchen layout, but the owners did a great job with the remodel. Definitely has a warm welcoming vibe going on. The concept reminds me of McAlister's where you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. Waiting staff was really nice and they were handling the dinner rush like experts. We ordered the Tula's Tots to start off. We asked for the sauces on the side. They were good, it's pretty hard to mess up tater tots. For my main course I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The sandwich is good, a little over seasoned, but it was definitely crispy and not dry at all. The mac and cheese was good too. My rating is more of a 3.5 ish score. Stopped by Tula's for a quick lunch and was really impressed. The waiter started us off with some green chile cheese biscuits with honey butter and they were amazing. I ordered the chicken sandwich with tots and my fiancé got the grilled cheese with a cup of tomato bisque. Everything was excellent, but the bisque was the star of the show. It is really, REALLY good. Also really enjoyed the ranch sauce that came with the sandwich. It was so good we went back less than a week later. Margaritas are good too. What a great find! We were looking for a place for lunch and stumbled upon this restaurant, I thought it was new but they have been there a little over a year and they will be opening up a new location. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and provides excellent service! I ordered the Reuben with tater tots and it was delicious, I never had a Reuben with turkey and corn beef and it was a good size sandwich and the tater tots come with tasty dipping sauces. My husband had the grilled with avocado and tomato with a cup of the tomato bisque. Both meals were delicious and quite filling, we had to pass on getting a dessert. It amazes me in 2024, that a restaurant isn't friendly towards a GF allergy. It doesn't take much to source a local bakery to meet the needs of your community. I understand it's a "scratch kitchen " but from the food I've seen come out it could be better this is one of the only lunch spots in the heights. Service is okay. We have been here twice now, and both visits were great! Shareables are actually wuite large portions, plenty for a table of four. The tots are always crispy and delightful, and the sandwiches and salads have been fresh and on point. We arrived shortly after opening today and were seated promptly. Business picked up swiftly, but our server was quite attentive to our needs. They were also happy to bring out more of the house made pickles, which were a hit with us all, and unlike any pickles I've tried before. The place feels very clean and classy, without being fussy. There is some interesting and eclectic art on a few of the walls, and comfortable seating. The booths can be a tiny bit of a squeeze for four people, particularly due to the width of the table, if you have long legged dining companions or extra drinks and appetizers taking up table real estate. If you are good friends, it shouldn't be too much of a bother. We enjoyed everything, from the green chile strip appetizers (kind of a crunchy battered chile relleno vibe) to the club, pulled pork and crispy chicken sandwiches, the BLT chopped salad side and grilled cheese with excellent bacon. Can't wait to return and try more things! Everything on the menu looks great, and we have been quite pleased and satisfied after each visit. A go-to spot for early lunchtime. I am not one for leaving bad reviews, but the service tonight was so odd that I needed to. the food was exceptional. we've come here many times and the experience is usually good and so is the food. however, tonight, it was weird/bad. The waitress only checked on us maybe once despite the area around us not being full. she would stop at every table but it felt almost like she was avoiding our table? We got the wrong drinks. She never came back with our straws. All of our food was delivered by other staff and we'd usually ask them to correct our things or bring us things because she never checked on us. We also mentioned the chair was wobbly and seemed to almost break when we sat down, and she didn't really acknowledge it. She just kind of stared when we brought it up. We were very confused and turned off by the whole interaction. I genuinely don't think we did anything to feel like we didn't deserve the same care that others were getting. We weren't rude and we never raised our voices or got mad at her for anything. The whole experience was off and if we choose to return, we might have to go to the other location. read more

The server did not come back to our table the entire time after we got our drinks to check up on us, or apologize for the wait. When I did flag her down to ask her about our food, less then 3 mins later it came. I think we were forgotten. I ordered the Chicken Scallopini and didn't realize it was fried chicken tenders I was going to get on top of pasta, a little unusual. Chicken was overcooked, pasta tasted alright, would've liked more capers. They did discount my entrée 50% off, honestly they should've comped it. 30 mins to wait for a meal, and to have to chase down a server who didn't check in on us warrants that in my opinion.
