Thanks to the owner who cooks and the great chefs, as well as the other owner who is present everyday to greet and converse with customers! The owners have a great, powerful story about how they started. This diner has a very warm atmosphere and you feel welcomed everytime you step inside. It has a nice nostalgic feel that draws in people of all ages. I've had many of the menu items and I can say that everything was cooked as you expect it to be. Soft, cheesy omelettes with fresh vegetables. Soft scrambled eggs that just have that "home cooked by your grandma when you were a kid" feel. Crispy hash-browns. Sausage is great. Toast is always buttered and crisp. Man. Gonna go eat there tomorrow now that I'm talking about them, lol. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and hospitality received here. They are doing a great job at Gravy's Diner, I recommend literally anyone to try this place at-least once. You won't be disappointed. One of the best breakfast spots in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area. They're open super early! For those who work in the morning and need a happy start to their days before work. Biscuits and gravy were so good.

You can ask for hashbrowns crispy which I liked. Pancake was disappointing. Menu says fluffy but it was flat and thin. My son said biscuits and gravy were ok. Waffles were thin but my husband enjoyed his. They serve Pepsi products.

Homemade pie slices for $2.99 in this economy is WILD, but was the posted price with a whole laundry list of flavors! YUM! This is a breakfast/lunch spot and they close at 2pm except for a few evenings that they do dinner evidently. It is ABSOLUTELY WORTH making sure you get there even with the odd times!!! The French toast is amazing and I love french toast, I had some with my omelet. The omelet is a thinner version. Cooked on a flat top, folded and filled beautifully with all the goodies I requested. It was delicious! I ate far more of both the omelet AND the french toast! Yummmm. My partner had the sampler (top left on the menu). The server said you had to try it. It had eggs, meat, a side of French toast, AND a 1/4 biscuit with gravy! We took a bite of the sausage with a bite of the biscuit and gravy which was perfect! All the food was good as was the coffee (which had beautiful full flavor and wasn't watered down... momma likes some STRONG COFFEE and theirs was perfect! We sat there with no greeting, no water, nothing. We were actually about to leave and head to Culver's when the gentleman who seated us noticed we still hadn't been acknowledged. He immediately stepped in to help, got drinks started, apologized for the delay, and even offered us a complimentary appetizer because of the lack of service. The appetizer was great, and his kindness completely changed the tone of the experience. He ended up taking our order and delivering our food as well. His attentiveness and genuine care were superb. Unfortunately, the meal itself was disappointing. We usually order the Reuben but decided to try the 1850 chicken sandwich this time. It arrived barely warm, looked unappealing, and the chicken was quite dry. Honestly, I probably would have enjoyed Culver's more. That said, the gentleman who took care of us made all the difference. I wish I had gotten his name because he truly deserves recognition. I left nearly a 20% tip because of him and honestly wish I could have left more. You have an absolute gem working for you. We'll likely be back, though not quite as confidently next time. Hopefully this was just an off lunch.

Here are our thoughts below! Food/Drink: Monster Cookie (Yum! This cookie was HUGE, soft, and delicious. Rating = 8/10). Hot Cinnamon Roll Latte (This tasted nearly identical to a warm, gooey, cinnamon roll! Be warned - it is a very sweet beverage. Rating = 7.7/10). Iced Hazelnut Latte (YES! This is basically almost as good as it gets when it comes to a latte. Absolutely scrumdidilyumptious. Rating = 9/10). Service: The service here could not have been better! Our barista's name was Brianna, and she had a phenomenal attitude. She looked excited to help us out and appears to love her job. Her passion for her job truly shined through during our time in the shop. Ambiance: As mentioned above, this review is based on our visit to the First Street location in Cedar Falls. It has a much different vibe than the College Hill location. The First Street location is not quite as "homey" as the College Hill cafe and has more of a coffee chain feel (not as much unique character that I typically enjoy with local coffee brands). The College Hill location, on the other hand, has much more personality. It is an excellent place to get some work done, read a book, or meet up with friends! All in all - we undoubtedly had a 5-star experience at Sidecar this past weekend. Excellent food and drink and some of the best service we've received in a while!
