What a cute place to get all your fur-baby needs. They have all the good stuff that's healthy for your pup and cat. They have samples of food to share that are grain free. Stephanie was really great at sharing some information of what food is more beneficial for a cat and showed us all the areas where they were having a sale for cat toys. There is a table full of delectable dog treats where any dog with wag and drool over the sweet collection of bones. The owner is great and makes good conversation. I love this place. I love the owners. I love the products and how this business always reminds me why I would rather buy from local instead of chains. I go in and they remember my dogs' names, they are a wealth of knowledge and are willing to help me find products if they do not carry them. I have even had them special order things, which they always do with a smile. The owners are constantly helping out the local community and charitable groups and I am willing to pay a little more knowing my dollar is going back into the community (and hopefully help some homeless pets). Also are in the "know" about local resources pet owners might need, they helped me find the right vet which I am thankful for. read more

My review is based off of one experience so it might be worth taking it with a grain of salt. I had heard good things about Tre Bone and decided to stop by one afternoon when I was in the area. The store is small but well stocked. I didn't find anything that I hadn't seen before but they carried some of my favorite tried-and-true products. Why only two stars? When I was there a lady came in and told the woman manning the register that she had returned to pick up the back of dog food that they were holding for her. She was rung up and when the customer was given her total she presented a coupon. The woman at the register told her that she couldn't use it for this purchase because it was considered complete when they held the bag of food for her and it couldn't be applied retroactively. What?!? The lady hadn't paid for the food, it wasn't retroactive! She customer told the woman at the counter that she only had them hold the food at the suggestion of an employee the day before because they were low on that particular food and she had forgotten her coupon at home. When she asked why it made a difference that the food was on hold in using the coupon she was told that it was at the owners' instruction. Now this could have been a mistake, misunderstanding or some other reasonably explained scenario but I was put off by this kind of customer service. While it is a nice shop they don't carry anything I can't get elsewhere and their prices are average so based on what I saw I won't be giving them my business. read more

Going forward, Tre Bone has won over our business. We have two cats and a 70 lb dog and had been going to Petco for all of our supplies, trying to take advantage of small rewards and savings here and there. We ventured into Tre Bone look for dog treats originally and returned for more treats and nail clippers. The sign in the store notes - no wheat, no corn, no soy, no by products and no products of China. We have a dog that has a limb deformity and needs special food and a cat that has an allergy to corn. Specialty food has slowly become a necessity. Learning that there is a local store where we can buy literally ANY THING for our pets and know that the product is natural and healthy, is amazing. The owners have been courteous and helpful each time we have visited and taken the time to answer any questions we have had and acknowledge our presence. The hours also work for both my partner and myself, who sometimes can't get off work until after 6. We're very excited to start our relationship with Tre Bone and continue buying more product from them. read more

A great little pet supply store, specializing in high-quality foods and supplies, unusual toys, all-natural and holistic diets. Wonderful service, special orders available, and an admirable conscience (the owners sponsor charitable events that benefit pets/animal groups in serious need). The business also actively contributes to the neighborhood, and the owners work to organize the local businesses into a cohesive group - I truly admire them for this. I could only wish that they carried a decent clumping clay-based unscented cat litter, as the grain-based stuff is highly allergenic... otherwise perfect. read more

I recently adopted a 5-year-old Australian Shepherd mix with epilepsy. I have always only had cats, in part because up until a year and a half ago, I was a renter. I am madly in love with my new dog, and enamored with my new life as Dog Owner. And, it's so incredible to live within walking distance of Tre Bone. Tre Bone is a wonderful place for pet supplies. The owners are the workers and care about your satisfaction and the neighborhood. I think the neighborhood is lucky to have a locally owned & operated store with a great selection and fair prices. My shop dog is my first dog and they've been extremely helpful with getting me what I need at the right price. The carry the food and the treats you want to serve to your pets. They aren't in your face about what you should give your pets, but if you want their advice, they'll give it to you with your budget in mind. When I was broke they steered me to good food I could afford, and educated me about some of the differences between the different brands. This is a level of customer service that is just awesome. I do buy more expensive food now, but they are still cool and still give me the info to make informed decisions. The only caveat is that my dog loves them so much that he wants to walk into their store whenever we walk down Lombard, and he doesn't understand why they are closed on Mondays... read more

At this charming store they know my dog (and me) by name. Not only is the service exceptionally good, but it is also very helpful and informative. I feel good about feeding their foods to my pets. People are always commenting in how healthy their coats look, and I know a lot of that has to do with the good food they get at Tré Bone. I feel confident buying their products because I know that they are all very carefully selected with consideration for our pets health and tastes. They also consider how, by whom and where each product was made. This is so important! Our pets are not pets. Really they are our family (as they are for many "pet" owners) and their health is so important, so it's wonderful to have such a great place to buy their food. In addition to their fantastic service, knowledgable and caring staff, and fantastic selection of products, they also care about animals and their community. This is demonstrated through the many fundraisers and events they have, such as their Dogs of St. Johns calendar, which benefits the Oregon Humane Society. Last year when we moved to Portland, I was worried that I wouldn't find a specialty pet store nearby that carried the brands of cat and dog food that I like. Upon a recommendation from a friend, I checked out Tre Bone, conveniently located on Lombard Street in St. Johns. It's everything you could want in local shop: friendly, stocked with well-curated brands, and with a good mix of food, bedding, grooming products and other problem solvers for pet owners. In talking to to the store's owners, I was very impressed with how well they researched the companies that they carry. They also have a great section of holistic products for those not wanting to always have to use chemical solutions (for flea control, for example) or prescription meds. Not only are they a great resource, they also support and promote local pet rescues, a cause that is near and dear to my heart. They have a Buy 12 get 1 Free program that I use every time I shop there, sometimes to have extra of our regular food, and sometimes to try something new. It's so refreshing to talk to people who really know the industry and stand behind their products. Your dollars are well spent supporting a small independent business and having the confidence to know that they stand behind all of the products that they sell. A true gem! read more

Well, I'm not a happy lady. I am quite offended at the audacity of the worker to argue against my ethical facts. I have a vegan family and that extends to our two little non-human animals. They, just as us, thrive. We happily purchase VDog from Foodfight! grocer, but I thought that I'd pop in to reload and get some sh*t bags while en route to pick up the little fur children from the groomer. I asked if they would be willing to carry or order vegan dog food because it would be convenient as we live in NoPo. The lady told me that it wouldn't work here because "dogs, like humans, are carnivores" Haaaaaa! Ignorance! I proceeded to tell her how we all thrive and live alongside our beliefs as animal lovers. You cannot love one and eat another, simple as that. I guess these people are speciesist and do not care to even consider catering to consumers who care about animals outside of cats and dogs. While I was talking, she rudely answered the phone and avoided eye contact. Talk about rude. You know, Portland understands veganism, or at least respecting the way compassionate people choose to live, and I am appalled. Please support businesses who LOVE ALL ANIMALS, and won't disrespect you because you actually care. The couple who owns this place are totally sweet and nice. The husband couldn't get a $.99 mouse toy for my cat to ring up so he shrugged it off and told me to pay for it next time. they have an excellent selection of good quality treats and food for your pets, which is EXCELLENT for those of us who previous had to result to Purina crap from Safeway in an emergency. read more

As many others have said, this store has a great, thoughtful selection of food and treats. I was eager for my puppy to be old enough to socialize so that we could walk to Tre Bone and pick out a toy! That being said, I was pretty put off by my experience. I understand that the woman behind the counter had good intentions, but it made me feel pretty crappy to have a steady stream of advice on how to handle my dog. She was very excited, but we are in puppy class and are working on her skills and my handling. We were doing our best, but this was literally her first time in a store. I must say, these people really know their products, and they know the products that are good for our pets. They do all the work, so we don't have to! When I first got my pup, being the clueless owner I was, just figured I would continue the same food he was previously on which was recommended by the shelter. I was advised they didn't carry it because they were uncomfortable with the amount of recalls this particular brand had. They then recommended an alternate brand, similar food, which worked out perfectly. In every aspect of their business, I can tell this shop belongs to passionate owners who are truly doing what they were meant to do. This is my wiener dogs' favorite place to shop. The owners are really nice and always give treats to my dogs, so they're always excited to take a trip to Tre Bone. They have a HUGE selection of toys, locally made treats, leashes and collars and everything your pup or cat might be looking to pick up. Also, Tre Bone carries a great selection of really high quality dog foods, as well as raw food. I highly recommend this shop. Tre Bone, is wonderful, during the two week snow storm they were open. The two owners are so nice and they always greet my dog before the greet me. My dog was having gas issues and I wanted to switch my dog to a dog food that was less gassy. They made a few suggestions and no more gas! There are a lot of great reviews for this shop. They have a decent selection of dog and cat food, also of toys, though they are a bit on the expensive side. I've tried to get help finding trainers and collars there for my aggressive dog and this place was useless! I felt uncomfortable when I asked and was told the owners "didn't believe in" that sort of thing. Some dogs need rules and boundaries, and I felt like I was being looked down on by some hippie love and hugs solves all problems type of shop owner. I was hoping for a helpful resource.
