Absolutely amazing store!!! Being a new pet owner can be a little worrisome when trying to ensure that you're giving your little buddy all of the correct care and support they need. However, my local MudBay store made this process incredibly convenient, simple and helpful. Every single employee I talked to not only knew exactly what they were talking about, but they all truly cared about ensuring the quality of care for my new kitten. At the end, they even gifted me a goody bag specifically made for owners of a new kitten, which truly was the cherry on top for me. Overall, I highly recommend this store to any pet owner. I live 2 blocks away from this location so, It truly sucks that this particular mud bay store is mostly a "no go" for me. This isn't a negative review for Mudbay across the board because I have nothing but positive comments/remarks for other locations; Sellwood is the absolute best! And Williams is a close second, but The Mudbay on Glisan in the Pearl is truly a dud.... It's not that the store isn't nice or that the offerings aren't up to par, it's simply the horrible horrible manager at this location. I have never in my life been so offended/insulted as I was at this store by the manager (not sure her name, but very short and well .....that's it) anyways for the sake of being succinct, everything that a manager could do to drive away business, this person does..... plays favorites, assumptions, condescending, 100% unprofessional- and I know for a fact that if I were able to look at the numbers for this location they would not be up to par- I'm not the only one in the Pearl who travels elsewhere just to avoid the toxicity radiated from this one. This location should absolutely be the premier location in both bottom line and customer satisfaction feedback, but I'd be willing to put a hefty bet down that this is not the case..... not only offended and inconvenienced, but extremely disappointed that my pup can't enjoy a walk over to her pet store to add to the quality of her life.... Speciality pet stores like this attract those with money - or those looking for items not easily found. I am in the latter group. I shop two of their stores: Hawthorne (street parking), and Grant Park, next to New Season's, on NE Broadway (parking garage, shared by New S's.). Found some great stuff for my foster kitty: a $10 feather on a wand (with $5 refills); a kitty litter that is low tracking made from corn (Wee Kitty), and VetriScience Composure chews for my foster kitty. (They said if they don't work they would refund it - or credit it. Can't remember which.) They have knowledgeable staff and your questions will get answered quickly. They deliver if you are in their service area. I also believe they do good by donating pet food to worthy causes. That alone gets my vote! read more

Really loving my new neighborhood pet supply store. It has a well-curated selection of goods, excellent customer service, and all-in-all a pleasant shopping experience. So happy to have this within walking distance. I generally come here for dog food and treats, but on occasion I have more specific needs. Recently, my pal Samson the Wonder Mutt has had an upset stomach and I've needed something to try and plug him up while the vet's meds do their trick. I walk in, and the clerk at the front door asks if I need help. After describing the situation she said she knew exactly what I needed, and sure enough she did! Soon I was purchasing both some probiotics and powdered pumpkin, both of which are designed to help with diarrhea. I was probably in the store less than 5 minutes, which is ideal for this whole global pandemic setting in which we've found ourselves. Speaking of which, they're handling it responsibly. They check people in at the door and expect them to use hand sanitizer. They limit the number of shoppers, and they have contactless shopping options. read more

We went in due to Eleanor struggling with the quarantine pounds and never having been to Mud Bay, we were unsure. We found out that she was between a 4 and a 5 for her body type, even though she's known as a 10 throughout our neighborhood, which meant she was overweight. Needing help, we asked Rachel, an employee with candy apple red Docs to help join our quest. That was arguably the best decision that we made all day (a close second was making sweet potato fries from scratch). She explained and compared what food we were giving her to what would be healthy for Eleanor to eat then went on to help us choose some different soft foods to start out. She gave us samples of tripe to put on her food. We learned what she did when she had her cat go through this challenging, yet rewarding process. With both of us having worked in retail customer service, the first thing we said when we left was, "that may have been the best service I have ever received in my life." We are off to start sampling some soft foods with Eleanor whilst we both fight over who gets to ask Rachel to go shoe shopping after our next visit. read more

This Mud Bay location is quite simply my favorite. Not only due to its location, but the employees there are just lovely. Every encounter I've had has been pleasant and they are always willing to help. I would like to shed some light on one particular associate, Rosie. SHE IS AMAZING! She is just a pure joy to be around and she will go out of her way every time to ensure that I've been taken care of- and I'm certain she treats everyone else to that same caliber. I went in yesterday and needed recommendations and general knowledge on the best practices to integrate raw food into my dogs diet. Instead of pressuring me into a sell, Rosie provided me with a handful of samples for my husky and corgi to try before I committed. She took the time to edify me and suggested some of her own favorites that she feeds to her dogs. To say the least, both Kit and Earl have LOVED the raw food samples. So thank you, Rosie for being a top notch employee. Additionally, all other associates that work there are just as amazing and have always treated myself and my fiancé with kindness. Easy return policy is so nice, especially when experimenting with a new pup. Free treats at checkout are a great touch. Portland loves their dogs and there are A LOT of pet store options around for food, treats, accessories, etc. In NW alone, there's Hip Hound, Nature's Pet, Unleashed, Cycle Dog, Sniff, and more. But my favorite place to purchase food and treats from is Mud Bay. Mud Bay offers the best selection of food and treats and always at reasonable prices. I often see treats that I like at Hip Hound, but purchase them from Mud Bay because it's cheaper there - for example, Tucker's Dehydrated Bones are $11 at MB, but $16 at HH and chicken feet are $0.59 at MB but $1.25 at HH. Also, the staff there are always super friendly, they give free treats and know my dog by name! read more

I'm the biggest advocate for Mud Bay. They're the perfect pet food supply store. Such a great thing that Mud Bay is opening up stores outside Washington. They offer a great variety of food, toys, bath supplies, and treats. Also, the products are quality. Some other stores, sadly, carry terrible food for your pets. Please do your research and find the right food for your little ones. Other stores also feel dirty, and this makes me feel uneasy. Mud Bay is always very clean and organized. Such great customer service! I just went to this store tonight and I was so impressed! I went in 20mins till closing and I was respected throughout my whole visit I was probably in there a little past 9pm, but they were still so helpful and nice. I wasn't even rushed! Mud Bay is wonderful!! The personnel had been very dedicated trying to figure out how to help me get my dog to eat food to which he will not have an allergic reaction. So far we have figured out the kibbles, now for the canned stuff. They give me cans to sample and see how enthusiastic he will be--which hasn't been very great for an unknown reason, and he is even refusing raw food as an additive to his diet, which is unusual. For those of you new to me&my family, my dog Gnoffie moved over to PDX from the Netherlands where we used to live, just 3 weeks ago. And the Dutch food (Hills, an excellent brand, which I can get at the vet's office), he was refusing to eat in the weeks before our departure. So hopefully we can figure it all out for my little old guy. He is getting up in age, and I do wish him to enjoy his food. As for my two cats, Hoo and Nasi, I bought the cat tree here, and especially Hoo loves to lay in the uppermost part. I like the fact that it was locally made and sourced, and I think the wooden parts neat. And cat food was an instant hit with Blue Salmon and with the cats I got to try canned food as well. Meantime, also the nice catboxes with an upper entry--less mess to clean because Nasi loves to throw the clay inside stuff around--have become a personal favorite: I bought two of them. The best experience ever! I was greeted with smiles by both employees. The man working asked what brought me in and I let him know that I was adopting a kitten. From the cute exterior, exclusive store parking, and small-chain flair of Mud Bay, I was expecting outrageous boutique prices. Happily, Mud Bay turned out to be amazingly affordable (I'd argue cheaper/higher quality than Petco!). This is the perfect place to stop in for most of your dog needs. There are just enough toys to match your dog's chewing desires without overwhelming Fido. They even offer a deal where you buy a small container to reuse and then get a discount on the bulk treats! The staff has also been very friendly and helpful, playing with our pup and recommending great age-appropriate toys. He particularly loves the free sample treats at the register! My only complaint is that the selection of dog beds is fairly small here, and it might be best to shop elsewhere for larger purchases like that. This is certainly understandable given their small real estate. As far as day-to-day needs go, Mud Bay is the best in the NW! read more

Overall, Mud Bay has been hit or miss with me. I've only been to this location once and was pleased with everything. Another store had called over for me to confirm that they had a wool cat bed from lollycadoodle (totally worth checking out - http://lollycadoodle.com/). I was greeted right away and asked about the bed. They knew right where it was and grabbed it to ring up for me. I asked about kitten food samples, since we had just adopted a kitten from the Humane Society earlier that day. They had food and treat samples for me to try, which was great. I also grabbed some dog treat samples for my mom's crazy dog. Great service and free samples and a wide-array of pet food with with good ingredients. Decently easy to find parking. I loved this store, when I was in town visiting. The staff (the 3 times I stopped by) was so friendly, informative and helpful. They really did have smiles and seemed to enjoy working at this pet store. WONDERFUL STAFF! Inside is very clean and well laid out. Items were well placed and I loved the variety. I bought cat food and cat toys. One was a mouse on a string that my kitty is crazy for and is currently the best toy we have ever gotten. We also purchased a variety of little balls (little plastic one he loves) which have give hours of play. Also, we purchased some hilarious cat food varieties which include one of a Peking Duck! They even had these nature cat houses made out of real trees, which were pretty cool. Everything about this shop is fantastic and if I, for whatever reason, ended up in town again - I would stop in! Hi, so we just left and wanted to immediately write about our experience. First of all, I have never received such great customer care in any store before in my life. I usually hate chatting with employees about products because I am a shy and anxious person. We were helped out by Hikari, who took our diet concerns very seriously and seemed genuinely as excited about our new cat as we are. She was a fount of information about every question we threw at her and we walked out with excellent and generous samples. She made us feel comfortable and welcome, and I really appreciated that so much. For reals, Hikari, thank you. I know she said this was not her usual store but I hope we get to see her here more often so she can meet our cat when she comes home. :)) Edited to add: it's also really nice to see a pet store where the cat stuff isn't an afterthought shoved into the back corner of the store. I recently stopped into our local Mud Bay to look for a new wet food for our cat (after our previously used brand of wet food had some suspicious changes in their product). Trying to figure out which would be the "best" option seemed a bit daunting since I usually bee line to our go-to brand. Maggie quickly came over to assist and spent time inquiring about our cat's preferences and what we were hoping for in a new wet food option. She walked me through each line of cat food offering grain-free options to find a few that would be good for my cat to sample. I cannot thank her enough for the time she spent explaining all the differences (and there are way more than I thought). I was then sent home with a new bag and 7 different samples to try. The employees have all spent time and energy with me, helping me to figure out how to deal with my picky, overweight cat. The staff, also, has never been pushy with me to make any extraneous purchases. The store itself has a nice layout and flow to it. They offer a wide variety of merchandise. I loveee this store. I adopted 2 cats from Oregon Human Society and they gave me coupons for the food and litter from Mud Bay so I decided to try it out. I usually buy food for my cats at Petco or Petsmart but I think Mud Bay does a great job on providing good service and their staffs are very knowledgeable about the food, litter and many other things. One of my cat need to lose some weight and I don't really know how. One of the lady from Mud Bay helped me to pick the food and taught me how to feed them differently from what I was doing. It's very helpful and my cat has lost some weights since then. They will give you some samples to go home first to try and then u can decide whether you want to purchase it. This was my first time at Mud Bay. I had come from Furever Pet and liked the selection but didn't really like the staff because they didn't really answer any of my questions. Mud Bay, on the other hand, was fantastic. I'm a new cat owner and had a million questions and Malina had a thorough answer for each one. Plus they give out tons of free samples so you can find the kind of food your pet likes. And they accept returns on anything you buy if your pet doesn't like the item!
