Mud Bay - anticipation! - Pet Stores Near Me - Portland, Oregon

Before I get into my review, I'd like to say for many years I have always thought mudbay was a credit union or a bank. It wasn't until this year. I realized it was a quality pet store. Now, why do I share these things on yelp reviews? I don't know it's a fun story with that said I am very fond of this place. Great price is great people and super clean which is a big selling point on pet stores for me. I want a similar pet store in my earlier years and I would love to see a well run quality shop. Definitely worth the trip read more

Good selection of treats! Pretty good for beds and medical needs. Dog toys seem to be focused on bigger dogs. Some staff seem to be into dogs and saying hi but not all. They take Apple pay and have a discount section to the right when you first come in. They had a bed I like but I didn't buy right away but are ordering it to come in a week, very nice. The bed is competitive with online pricing and it's made in the USA unlike online. read more

Awesome selection of pet everything. Mostly dogs and cats but this is Portland Oregon. Nothing cheap but well thought out. You get what you pay for at Mud Bay. read more

A large dog group of about 12 people and dogs came in. Owners dropped leashes and I was threatened and barked at, just trying to leave the store with my kitty litter. "Leashed dogs Only" means owners need to hold onto the other end of leashes. Will now be a customer of Chewy delivery. read more

I have a million dogs and this is where I go to outfit and treat them all (3 dogs feel like a million sometimes). Our most recent trip was to outfit Chupa with a new leash, harness, bag dispenser and treats. The staff are so full of insight, ideas, and input on everything I could possibly have questions for, so I LOVE coming here. My pets are happier and healthier now that I do their shopping at Mud Bay and I recommend this place to all my friends, family and work clients. Thanks so much! This is a Sam and Chupa approved location. read more

Mud Bay - Chupa sporting her new harness and leash - Pet Stores Near Me - Portland, Oregon

I love Mud Bay for all of my dog's non-food needs (not a knock on their high quality food, my senior pup is now a specialty medical diet that I have to order). My most recent visit was in Portland's Hawthorne neighborhood because I needed a dog bed, grooming wipes and spray to remove doggie scents for our AirBnB. They had it all, including the natural varieties I prefer due to the pup's allergies. Everything is reasonably priced and high quality, never met an unfriendly staffer, and I have been to several of their shops. Great place for your treasured fur babes! read more

This Mud Bay store near my home has been a lifesaver for this new puppy owner. I got a new puppy suddenly (I was away on a trip and finally got confirmation on a pup when I returned) so wasn't really prepared, but the team here at the store was so helpful in my couple of visits to get initial supplies and then for additional advice and supplies as I had to start taking care of a new baby. The staff always seem to know pets (most are pet owners themselves) and they're just patient with an obviously overwhelmed first-time puppy owner. It helps that they're across from my favorite restaurant Khao Moo Dang, so I pre-order food for pick up there, go shopping at Mud Bay, and then pick up my food on my way home and praying my puppy didn't destroy the house. read more

Great selection in this large and well stocked and displayed store! Mud Bay is my favorite pet store chain in the PNW so I had to stop by this location!! Service was great - people here are so friendly and helpful. There is ample free parking in their private parking lot or park on the street. Favorite products from here are cod skin treats for my pups! read more

Lots of wonderful raw and healthy options for your pets. Favorite pet store to shop at and support in Portland.

This was my first visit to this location and I was searching for a replacement dog food for my nine-year-old dog. I was reluctant to change brands but the staff there were able to tell me the difference between my old brand and my new brand. They were incredibly friendly helpful and reassuring. The new food also comes with a guarantee that if my dog doesn't like it I can return it. I will definitely be back!! read more

Updating review because I just keep having great experiences at Mudbay! went in look for something that could keep my extreme super power chewer entertained for longer than 5 mins. The people working there were so helpful even took the time to show me different ones they liked for their own dogs. Helped me find this beef cheek chip thing and explained that it's fully digestible and could potentially last a while. It's amazing! Henry loves the flavor of it and is just gnawing away while I peacefully watch TV If you have power chewers make sure to ask about the beef cheeks!! It's also so good for cleaning their teeth too, he's using all of his teeth to gnaw on this. Super appreciate the wonderful employees that take the time to help me find what I need. The person that helped me even asked to see a picture of my dog you can tell they really love pets and are very knowledgeable. Thank you mudbay for letting me watch Netflix!! read more

Super helpful staff. My husband bought a giant cat tree. We were a bit apprehensive about getting our aging kitty on board with using her new perch but all of the tips the staff gave him really worked and she's in love. Also knowing we could return anything that didn't work for our kitty made making a big purchase a lot easier. Spoiled happy kitty = mission accomplished read more

Pretty store, spacious and clean. Sweet staff members. Can be strange, however, with how they relate to customers and how they deal with issues. My cat, for example, recently became ill with one of their foods and their vet had the audacity to imply that it was my fault. Wow. No, 'I'm sorry,' just this whole song and dance about how she could give me recommendations, etc., etc., even though my cat is under the care of two exemplary vets. That's the last time I agree for a strange woman to contact me by phone and email. As well, a manager asked me many questions about why I returned foods - kind of feels like 'Big Brother.' They're very much 'up in your business' and it's quite unsettling at times. The writing was on the wall a while ago when one associate kept going on and on about my cat and if I had to take her to the vet and if I wanted to give her probiotics. Time for me to go elsewhere. They're really into the not-so-soft-sell and it's not for someone like me who can see right through it and just wants to buy my cat her food. read more

A couple of months ago, my wife and I got a pitbull puppy. I must say, I was a little unprepared. Granted, I hadn't planned on getting a puppy, but my wife fell into a situation where a friend had a new litter and needed to get rid of them. Where am I gonna get all the puppy gear?! Enter Mud Bay! We've been to a Mud Bay before for our kitties, but now that we've got a puppy, we go here at least every couple of weeks. I had no idea how much food they can eat! And treats! And toys! Mud Bay has a great selection of everything you could possibly need regarding cats and dogs. They have a huge selection of treat varieties right near the door that they sell in bulk, which is super nice when you don't know what your dog is going to like. They also have an awesome treat policy: if your pet doesn't like it for any reason, you can return it, and they'll donate the toy/treat to charity! I thought that was pretty cool. We've gotten all sorts of things from here... food, treats, chew toys, throw toys, bones, peanut butter spray (for Kong toys), bitter spray to stop biting, treat/training bags, leashes, sweaters... jeez. We've spent a lot of money here! ;) The people who work here are super nice and very helpful. I've never had any trouble getting answers or assistance, and they make sure to always give you a little sample for your animals on the way out. They also encourage you to bring your pets with you! Awesome! Mud Bay is our go-to spot for pet things near our house. Great place! read more

My favorite pet store! The staff are so attentive and helpful and their stock is just so complete- found the perfect food for my pescatarian cats, lol, they love it. Mud Bay also occasionally sends us home with little goodie bags (treats) for the babes and that's always fun. They've offered contactless checkout as well as front door pickup and I appreciate all they do. read more

We came in to get some toys for our very bored house cat. The woman there was really helpful and helped us pick out the perfect twice. She even asked questions about how our cat played. They had a handwashing station at the front door and she was even able to pick out the toys and bring them to us so we didn't have to go into the store to far. The store looks amazing and we would love to go shopping once this whole pandemic is over. Thank you so much for the great help and the great toys. I think that the woman who helped us was named Mave but I can't quiet remember. read more

I want to love this place but I never feel that welcome. No number of "leave it!" Commands can keep my dog away from the lamb lung and yak cheese. If you don't want dogs sniffing at the treats for sale don't put them at snout level. I always pay for what my dog snacks on while shopping and I buy additional to take home. If I have to leave him at home, I'll just go to PetSmart where he is greeted by name. read more

The store is nice and their selections are good but man, get some plexiglass for the registers for the sake of mediating the awkwardness between the staff and customers.. it's been a year since the start of Covid and every business in. the. world. has plexiglass up. It'd be nice if the staff didn't have to jerk back awkwardly in horror, fear and disappointment while you're trying to pickup your purchased item from the counter. Sayin. read more

Went into this location today after just driving by and seeing it. Stopped in on a whim. This is possibly the nicest mud bay I've been to! The staff was incredibly friendly and so so sooo helpful! Great treat samples for the pup and a large selection of goodies for my happy little baby. Could not be happier and the staff seriously made our day. read more

This store and staff are amazing, and I have such a great customer experience every time I come in. We recently adopted a cat, and they were immensely helpful in answering questions, providing input and a couple helpful pamphlets, and offering free samples of different food for her to try out. It's also set up incredibly well for pandemic shopping; there's ample space for everyone to walk through the store and sanitation stations in several areas. It's also super easy to shop their selection online and do quick in-store or curbside pickups, too. More than happy to spend my dollars here! read more

Super appreciate everyone at this location! I'm always greeted right away by a friendly face. Staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. Especially appreciate the safety measures they've taken in light of COVID. There's a hand washing station right at the front of the store, everyone wears masks properly, and social distancing is enforced. It's one of the only business I feel comfortable going inside! read more

Our aging chihuahua eats very little but we find every opportunity to pop in and see our new friends here! It's rare to find a business that makes you feel so welcome and their knowledge of products and recommendations have helped restore Yukon's health, vitality and youthful joy! Thank you so much! read more

Love this place. Tim helped me with everything I needed to prep for the new kitty. He patiently answered my many questions. Great place to stock up for your kitty or pooch's needs. And unlike many specialized stores, the prices are reasonable. So happy I stopped by. They got me with kindness read more

The staff here are always helpful, and products are the best, but Steven (Stephen?) at Hawthorne went above and beyond funding me a product my old dog desperately needed today. Kudos for the great work ethic there. read more

First time at Mud Bay, I had a very helpful man helping me out. I was able to have my dog try different treats from their bins. When I mentioned she is picky and didn't like those he brought out some other samples. He was very engaging with my dog and gave her a few different treats until we found one that she absolutely loved (some type of dehydrated chicken treat). Even after we decided on a treat bag to buy, he walked us over to another area to have her try other kinds and sent some home with us too. Being my first time there I received a coupon for the next time I visit. Really happy with this place, very clean and nice people that make you feel comfortable vs trying to make sales. read more

Employees super friendly , not breedest . Laughed at my boyfriends stupid Red Robin gift card joke will be back for more dog toys soon!
