While this location is the most convenient for me I do not enjoy going to it-Grant Park Village. The customer service I have experienced here the majority of times is terrible. I could specifically call out 2 employees, one of which I believe is the manager (?) by name but do not feel this is the appropriate place or platform to do so. Let me just say that the horrible customer service from these 2 individuals is consistent. The best customer service I have received is from 2 employees, unfortunately I can only remember the name of one of them-Ivy-and a young man who I have only seen once so far at this location on my visits. These other 2 individuals could take some lessons in customer service from these 2 great employees!!! In a service type industry, you NEED to be better and DO better!! This is the only Mud Bay I have gone to in the area where I have had such poor customer service. Gave 3 stars ONLY because of the 2 fantastic employees there. read more

Now I get to use the word "segway". Because soon, I expect to "segway" from my former pet store to this one. It's just that there is a large selection to choose from. Raw. Kibble or freeze dried. How do I choose?? How much do I want to spend? Fortunately, the staff will help you as much as they can. Self serve biscuit station, tons of toys, leashes and harnesses everywhere. My dog Isla ( pronounced "eye-la" ) went crazy. She was immediately treated by staff as we walked in and expected to be "treated" at all times during our visit thereafter. I bought some sweet potato biscuits, and a small bag of kibble for her. She loves it. They even have "taste of the wild" that she eats on a regular basis. Same price as my former pet store. When your brother has a pittie, you spoil her. The dog likes to chew and chew and chew. Thankfully not the furniture or shoes or things like that but she likes her bully sticks. But they don't last that long with her, so I ended up here to see if they had anything that was longer lasting. Water Buffalo horns. Interesting, and it has kept the little lady happy and busy for days now. They also have these reenforced dog toys but you're going to pay a price for them. All were in the $15-20 range. I'm sure they are durable but I can't see spending that kind of money on a dog toy. They also have plenty of teeth cleaner type items and treats to keep the dog's breath fresh and she needs it. It's a nice place but can get spendy quick. I'll go back there on occasion for more horns. Enjoy. read more

I wanted to really dislike this place at first, but I just could not. They're like local-ish mom & pop gone small chain franchise, or at least that's what I think they are. The staff here are super duper friendly to the point of nearly annoying. The selection of food & treats are choice picked so they don't carry everything but a choice few brands. Turns out their prices are better than amazon, at least for the brand of cat food I buy. The store is nice, new and clean -inside the new grant park behemoth building at the corner of 33rd & Broadway. I will say that I like that they have parking and it's indoor so you don't get wet. Only problem is they have New Skeezuns as their neighbors. Not a big deal though, plenty of parking for all. Just don't get caught behind a portlander driving a subaru -like that would ever happen!?! The leader ship manager there who has glasses, dark hair and a beard racially profiles me every single time I go into the shop. I have been a customer for mudbay for over five years. I don't appreciate when I come in as a person of color being profiled, followed around the store and harassed like I'm stealing something. I have noticed this behavior from this individual several times and he doesn't do it to any non-person of color that comes in to the store. He was really weird about some birthday gift I had no idea about and made me feel extremely uncomfortable about it because of this continued racist behavior, I've had to drive out of my way to go to a different mudbay so I don't have to feel Fearful of my safety. read more

Ask for Bailey, she helped me with everything with my dogs and incredibly sweet and kind. They truly care for your animals and was able to get everything I needed. I've always had a great experience at Mudbay. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff who is willing to assist and answer questions. Everything is nicely organized and doesn't make you feel overwhelmed. You can tell they stand by the products they are selling as well. Also gives samples of food and litter to try before purchase. It's become my go to pet store, especially if I have a coupon. I didn't think that neighborhood would need another pet store since it's so close to Broadway Pets but I've definitely stopped in at Mudbay more than Broadway Pets since Mudbay opened. read more

So, here's the thing. I've had good experiences here. Often there is good customer service and they have whatever I'm looking for, including a plethora of cute cat toys. They are also in an extremely convenient location for me, so I've come back quite a few times. One experience left a really bad taste in my mouth. I asked if I was able to try a couple samples for my new cat. I also mentioned that he wasn't feeling well at the time and that we hadn't settled on a food for him. We weren't sure why he wasn't feeling well, but we were monitoring the situation and had plans to take him to the vet if it didn't resolve. Immediately after communicating this information to the associate she began to try to solve the problem. She asked me a ton of questions and wouldn't let up. She asked if we had considered his diet. She asked about him being stressed. She asked about if he was drinking enough water. She asked about this, she asked about that. All the questions and suggestions were things we had already considered and were not helpful. In fact, it felt very antagonistic and almost accusatory. I had not asked for advise and honestly I would only trust advice from a licensed veterinarian. She also would not give me any samples after hearing that my cat wasn't feeling well. Fine. I understand that's your choice, but knowing that Mud Bay often gives out samples when trying to find a good diet, and hearing that you weren't going to give them out only after you found out my cat wasn't feeling well was not helpful. It's as if you didn't trust me with my own cat. Our cat is fine now. Had some mild GI problems but everything is good. I suspect this Mud Bay was a one-time event and hopefully won't happen again, but I still left the store feeling very off and not happy with my experience. As mentioned above, I'll also had good experiences here, so there's that. read more

After making a nice bone purchase I failed to realize that I left a very important personal folder in the store. Cody found it and put it in the lost and found bin. I first went to Mudbay for the first time in Seattle, so I was really excited to see that it's also here in Portland. I got a $20 voucher for food when I adopted my kitten from the humane society. When we first there the manager helped us and told us to sample food for him, and then come back and see what he likes. When we finally came back to get our food I was amazed at how much we got! They were SO helpful and answered all of our questions and then some. The store is just really pretty, and has awesome products that I feel comfortable giving my cat. It's worth the drive from Happy Valley to go to this location! ps- they also give us free freeze dried treats for him too! he loves them :) read more

I trust Mud Bay for clean pet food ingredients! They do the work of applying multiple standards on the products they carry, so I'm already selecting from the healthiest foods available. Then, they help me fine tune my choices, if I want to avoid tuna because of the mercury, or want free range choices, they always have a solution. The free samples are great to find your new pet the right food. Customer service is the best! Mud Bay really trains their employees. They are very knowledgeable about animal behavior and health issues, if you ask. Free literature, too. If they don't already know about a product ingredient or source, they are willing to make phone calls and do internet research. I love that they put out little free flyers in the summer, teaching people the pavement gets hotter than the air and to protect pet paws! You get a discount if you buy case quantities (even if it's not still wrapped as a "case"). One little thing they never change: the receipts are not itemized with prices if you buy more than 12. They seem to be the only store in the universe without itemized receipts. Mud Bay is the only place I shop for pet supplies! read more

The workers are really friendly and well informed! I love all the suggestions they give me! My cat was real dehydrated and they taught me that cats think they are eating most of their water so they don't drink enough. We got my cats lots of wet food and a bubbling water dish and now he stays cool and hydrated and is ready for the summer days! read more

A nice lady named Emily helped me pick out food for my dog with allergies and even gave me some samples I could try out. MudBay always has everything I'm looking for. They also have been great about giving me samples for my dog to try after she had surgery and had to switch her diet. Hi Mud Bay! We are writing to share our positive feedback about your employee Cody S. at Grant Park Village. My sister and I regularly shop at Mud Bay, and Cody S. is always there to help us with any questions when we shop. We are very particular on what we can feed our 2 small yorkies. One of our yorkies has a serious allergy to fish and fish oil. She is allergic to other things as well, so when we came in to find the perfect food for her, Cody S. was there to help. He would go to a product he thought might be a fit for our situation, and start reading all the ingredients on the package. He would hand the package to us to read and if we saw anything we thought could cause an allergy, we would move onto the next brand. We must have gone through 20 brands before we found the Avoderm Turkey dinner. This one looked like a good fit, and we were eager to try it. When we arrived home to feed our dogs, they were going nuts for the smell of the new dog food. Avoderm Turkey dinner was a huge hit, and compatible with both of our yorkies. This was a great success on the first try. Cody S. intuition and knowledge is above and beyond the norm. Cody S. goes the extra mile every time we come in. He's kind, caring, and passionate about his job. What a valuable employee you have. He's a real gem. We made another trip to Mud Bay when our mother moved in with us and brought three new family members 2 jack Russels and a Bangle cat. We asked Cody S. to help us pick out the most affordable cat food. We were looking for the most bang for our buck, because we were on a budget. We went throughout the store in the cat section and picked out the cheapest litter box, cat litter, cat harness, and cat leash, as well as the cat food. He found us everything in the store for the best prices! He carried all of the stuff up to the counter including the 40 pound cat liter. He was really going the extra mile on this one. We asked him to help us pick out the most affordable dog bed, for there was a shortage of soft pet furniture in our house with the new additions, and the dogs were all sharing 1 dog bed. We found a $45 foam pet bed that was a square. It was big enough for 2 Jack Russels and a yorkie. It worked beautifully. Cody S rung us up, and when we asked about the dog chewies, he asked for what dog breed, and how old. We told him the Jacks that are older and he said they were out of the perfect chew that is easy to digest and that it would be in tomorrow. We said we'd be back for the economy bag when they came in. Our shopping experience has been so positive at Mud Bay with Cody S. eager beaver attitude and vast knowledge that we look forward to shopping at Mud Bay. Mud Bay has the best prices in town and will match New Seasons pet products prices if they carry any of the same product. We love your store and we love Cody S. Love Mud Bay I'm very excited that we now have one within walking distance to my house. I walk down with my dog and get his "cookies" and it's a great little outing for the both of us. They also carry both cat and dog premium brands of food; I was previously having to drive across town for. For bigger loads- like getting my dog's Pure Vita food- the parking is super easy to get and out. The staff is always great and helpful. It's such a amazing feeling to have "little" pet stores back, instead of going to an impersonal box store where know one remembers who you are or your pet. Even though they are a chain, each one I go into feels like a neighborhood market with people working there that genuinely understand your love (border-line obsession) with your 4 legged kids!
