Highly suggest against getting your dog groomed here…read more After Blaze's grooming appointment (which ended around 8 PM), he immediately began scratching at his head and later developed redness, discharge, and squinting in one eye. Please also note his eyes were 100% fine at drop off. Because everything was closed by the time we got home, we monitored him overnight and brought him to the vet first thing the next morning. At the vet, his eye was stained, corneal abrasions were identified and they performed a debridement. The veterinarian felt the injury was related to the grooming appointment, and Blaze was sent home with treatment and a cone. The veterinary treatment was covered by petsmart, which at minimum is what gave should have been done. I was surprised and disappointed that reimbursement of the grooming service itself was refused for multiple reasons- the injuring of my pet, the groomer doibg horrible job on the groom with patchy spots/eyelashes only trimmed on one side AND the veterinary findings and treatment being covered. For our appointment, I went to a banfield that they don't typically partner with (they partner with the one on 82nd). They kept saying they would pay for the office visit fee and if the vet deemed the injury due to the grooming, they would also pay for treatment. The vet at this location appeared visibly upset FOR me and billed it directly to them without notifying them first. If it was an appt at their partner location, I highly doubt that treatment would have been covered. What made the experience more frustrating was being told that approximately 90 minutes of footage from a 3-hour appointment had been reviewed and that no tools were used near his eye. At the same time, Blaze's eyelashes on one side -- which are normally very long -- had been trimmed down almost to the eyelid while the other side remained long. That inconsistency left me with more questions than answers. I ultimately filed a formal complaint regarding both the grooming appointment and the handling of the situation because I felt the response became more focused on defending the service than addressing the customer experience. My concern is that when a dog leaves requiring veterinary treatment, the focus should be on communication, accountability, and making it right. Do better, PetSmart.
