Love the Unleashed Petco stores because they are so much smaller than the regular Petcos. It's super easy to pop in and refill your kitty litter jug or pick up one or two items. Most of the time, that's all I need. The store may be smaller, but it truly has everything I need. Located on SE Powell and 39th, it's super convenient. Moreover, they have a system which keeps track of transactions, and they rely on poorly trained (or perhaps trained to hide this detail by not giving receipts and not entering information into their system). This is my local pet store, i used to enjoy going here until the manager (MATTHEW) started working here. He is aggressively rude, every single time i come in. We had some exchange of words today after i told him he was unprofessional due to his horrid behavior, and i don't understand why. Maybe a change of careers is needed in his future + not working in customer service. For the past year my partner and i have had awful experiences just trying to get some dog toys + food when Matthew is working. He clearly really loves his job. He told me i don't have to come to his store, after i let him know his attitude is sour. And then told me he would call police and tell them im trespassing? For buying dog for and telling Matthew he should be nice to his customers? Comical. Maybe he's not used to a woman standing up for herself when a big large burly man is aggressive towards her. I wanted to give my two small dogs a bath in the same tub, they refused saying each dog had to be in their own tub and the other would have to wait in the car, it was 75degrees out. They couldn't explain why I couldn't wash them together other than the tubs aren't made for two dogs. My dogs are smaller than one large dog. They were rude and unapologetic. read more

This is our go to pet store for our cat and dog. It's really close to our apartment and the staff is great, they always take the time to answer our questions and assist us when we need it. It's also crazy having a puppy and trying out toys, food, and accessories and it's great knowing there return policy is awesome, cause sometimes stuff just doesn't work out or your dog breaks it in literally 5 mins. Overall we really like this store for all our pets basic needs. In addition we do training classes for Hades with Lexi and she is so great with doggos! This outlet used to be a really pleasant place to shop. The associates always said good morning or hi when you walked in the door and I always felt like they liked me, valued my business, and even cared about my cat. Then it changed. I realized it must be a new manager. Another post mentioned this and gave his name as Matthew. The staff no longer greet you and it doesn't feel like a happy place. Matthew, who is tall and imposing, is rude, impatient, ignorant and even a bit scary. Most recently, when I asked about the new formula for the refillable cat litter, which had gone from excellent to stuff that didn't clump and that created clouds of dust, making my cat cough whenever she used the box, he snapped that all clay litter was the same. Anyone who has a cat knows this isn't true. I now drive farther to go to a different Petco, and am considering Petsmart--there's one of them too. My tall and imposing brother had said maybe he should buy my cat's litter and food there now (because, he said, this type of guy isn't usually rude to other big guys) , but really we shouldn't have to do this. This was the first time I had used a self-service dog wash. Ideally, you need to make a reservation beforehand, but I suppose if they've had time to clean up the dog wash area at the back of the store, you could walk in. They have 3 stainless steel tubs at 3 slightly different heights. Pick the one that will be easiest on your back, as there is a removeable entryway/ramp on the side of each tub that your dog use to walk through, plus a moveable one-step stand so you don't have to lift them. There is a leash with two attachment points to keep your dog in the tub. A flat rate of $15 per dog, no blow drier, but lots of towels, and they provide shampoo, conditioner, a rubber brush, two tooth-lengths of combs, and an apron. My only complaint was the lack of stable water temperature to the sprayer, but it still beats washing the dog in the back yard with cold hose water! read more

I have no idea why there are so many shi**y reviews for the Vetco clinics. I just had an absolutely amazing experience with it @ the Petco Unleashed on Powell. We had a 5pm appt - saw the vet @ 5:10pm? The attendant staff was super helpful and knowledgeable - kind and so great with my puppy. The vet was amazing. Gave great advice concerning vaccinations and what to do now (and later). And understanding of the fact that I needed to balance the need between providing responsible care for my pup with what I could afford today. Everything about the experience was great. If I could give them 6 stars I would. And I'm a picky fu** Just read some of my other reviews - and ignore those that are all negative about vetco clinic. Or at the very least reconsider them in light of my experience. read more

Perfect! This is just too easy to use and comfortable, to wash my dog and make him feel loved. I have never done this before, to confess. I usually bring my dogs to a groomer, but money doesn't grow on trees, after all. And Gnof was so dirty, I wanted to do it myself, spending some quality time with him in the process. Work has been wayyyy too much lately. Arriving at 9AM ensured no wait. The store is located in the shopping center right next-door to Safeway, with plenty of free parking. Inside it is clean and welcoming, personnel is great as always. They gave me a good explanation of how to use the washing facilities, and the directions on the wall did the rest. This review is solely for the self-service dog washing service. This was my first time using Unleashed for this service and from reading previous reviews, it looks like their prices have increased from $10 to now $15/pet. I do wish that the pricing was more dynamic based on weight as I have a 15 lb Klee Klai and a 20 lb terrier mix and I paid the same as another customer in the store that had a St. Bernard. That being said, as an owner of two dogs, it's so nice to be able to bath them both and I will gladly pay $30 to avoid my bathroom looking like a hurricane just passed through. I asked the cashier if they had a punch card, much like other local self-service dog washes in the area, and he said that while they currently did not he would pass along the suggestion to his manager - I really appreciated this feedback! The dog wash facility itself is great. There are 3 washing stations located at the back of the store. Aprons, shampoo, conditioner, grooming brushes, and treats are all available to use and are included in the price, however, you can bring in your own shampoo if you would like. There are also 2 drying stations with high power blow dryers. The stations are clean and seem like they are well kept. We will definitely be coming back! read more

A young woman helped me decipher the myriad of flea products to find the best one for my pack of dogs and even took the time to help me find a deal on the internet when she learned that I was having a financially tough month. I used to use this self-serve dog washing station on a monthly basis, - and had even left a 4 star review, - but I deleted that review after my most recent visit. I hadn't been here for a few years since moving into a house with a bath tub (so we can wash the dogs at home now), but went back last month to give our dogs baths before leaving for a road trip. We mainly went as a fun outing for my 6 year old daughter because she wanted to help wash the dogs. When we got there, the dog wash station was a mess. - Had furniture piled up in it and a room divider (I think that's what it was?) with a hand written note of "rules" including one that said "children must be supervised by adults." I should've taken a photo for this review. There was also a "rule" saying you needed to check in at the front register before the bath. When I went to the register to check in, the employee didn't know anything about it, so she sent me back to the bath. My husband and I each started washing one of our dogs, while my daughter quietly helped me. Suddenly a panicked employee ran up to us screaming "no children in the bath area! No children in the bath area!." I pointed to the sign saying children were okay if supervised, and she said "the sign is wrong." There was no waiting area, so my daughter and I, along with a partially wet dog, sat on the dirty floor and waited for my husband to finish up the first dog, then do the second dog. Such a major waste of time and money ($20 per dog per bath!!). Employee was RUDE, rules were unclear, and store was a mess. We definitely won't ever be back. read more

This location is great! They carry everything I need to keep my pets happy & healthy, which of course, is my number one priority. Their customer service is just the added icing on the cake to keep me coming back every time I need something. They are my go to spot for EVERYTHING I need for my pets. The associates, every single one, are so knowledgeable about the products they carry. I was even able to call over the phone once and ask the name of the cat food by describing the isle. Ha! They did it and knew which one of the canned foods I was talking about. (I was already out of town when the house/catsitter called and asked where the cats treats were. *facepalm* I forgot to buy them! yeah yeah. Bad kitty auntie.) Anyways, he had the cat food up front and ready for her to get and it worked out greatly. Stoked. So was kitty. They do dog training and carry natural, no BS animal food. They have a great selection of dog cookies and costumes and clothing! The toy selection is spot on. heehee get it. Spot? Ok kinda lame. But not this place. :) Kitty litter by bulk. Collars with dainty things. Kitty condos, reasonably priced. A lot of outfits. I love it! Then when you think that's it. Nope. 'ol Spot needs a bath and YOU get to do it. Towards the back of the store, its a do it yourself wash station. I'm not sure on pricing but can find out and update. I really like this place. Very helpful and they stand by their products. How Petco (unleashed) has lost my business 1. Inconsistent pricing. Website is almost always cheaper but they don't tell you that. You have to manually ask for price match. 2. Big box store with premium pricing. One thing to support local. And a lot of time I don't bother to even shop around because there is a thing called trusting the store to take care of you and give you the best price. I shouldn't have to shop around or check Amazon prices. You cannot trust their price. 3. Bought something I ended up having to return the next day. (Bad product). Told me it was too difficult to return without the receipt. You have a record. You can look it up. 4. Because the thing didn't work I went online to do some research. Found the step up model to be 30 dollars cheaper than what I have just paid for. I feel like Petco is big enough and should have competitive pricing against online only retailers. I'm strapped for cash right now. Trying to save a few dollars. I try support local business (or smaller box store instead of amazon) even though I don't agree with the whole middle man idea unless we are talking about stores that you get to be hands on with the product. So I went in to the store to purchase some new toys for my pup and the method I chose to use for payment was a gift card. No big problem right, yea no the computers are so slow to the point where they can't even use the balance that's left. But the cherry on top was the worker who was very very rude. After 5 try's of using the gift card she pretty much gave up. Now I must say she was kind enough to add a discount for the inconvenience but her remarks following that were not very nice. After I said ok I'll just pay cash she said " I applied a discount so you don't need to be rude about it" like I just offered to stop the suffering and get the line moving and that's what I'm met with? I apologized for the gift card being wack and not working but it took a lot to not snap back. If she would've done that to an older person with a shorter fuse it would've turned into a full on screaming match. Very unprofessional very disrespectful. read more

The employees here are fantastic!! I never write reviews but I came in the other day after going to a few other places looking for affordable flea medication for my dog & cats. I was kind of bummed after not finding anything affordable at the other stores but one of the employees (I completely forgot their name but they were amazing!!!) helped me find the best medication for the best price. Without their help the meds would have been $100+, but we brought it down to about $60. They were also so friendly and helpful and really made my day much better. There's something up with this place. I've been taking my dog there to get self service baths for a couple of years and everytime I come in the staff seem super stressed out about it. I get that there are rules but the way it's explained seems like they've been traumatized or like I'm checking my dog into surgery. Today I came in 2 hours before they closed and the let me know I came in just before the cutoff time at 4:30 cause they have to clean the tubs before they close at 7pm. No one else was in the store. Then I was told that it was non-negotiable for me to use their leash and not mine (which is totally fine) but they acted like I was gonna make a big deal about that, which I never would. The whole experience made me feel like I needed to reassure the employee that I wasn't going to have a rabid dog destroying their store even though my dog is super chill and old. Another employee stood and stared at me washing my dog. And it's been like this everytime I go there. I don't know what to make of the staff cause they all act like they're about to go to war all the time and it always is pretty slow and quiet when I go in. Not going back. read more

First I would like to note that the comment below is obviously referring to the location in Sherwood. The address is not matching up with the map. I have yet to visit this location but have experienced the actual Burnside store and was beyond impressed. I am newer to this area and have been shopping with unleashed by petco for a long time in California, to my excitement the Burnside location opened just minutes from my apartment. While the delay in opening was a little frustrating, the end result was totally worth the wait. My visit on the opening weekend was phenomenal. I was greeted immediately upon entering by a short blonde woman, who I believe was the general manager (Amanda maybe?), anyway, suuuper friendly and helpful. My dog was given royal treatment, by everyone. He was given all sorts of attention and treats. They made me feel super special. I heard multiple people in line talking about how awesome the store looked,and how friendly everyone was. I felt that this crew went way above and beyond. It had that small shop feel that you don't find at a petco. I will be returning. read more

Came here for the self-service dog wash and for $10 it is a good value . There are a variety of shampoos available for your use and the area was very clean with no bad odors. However, they do not provide bibs, rubber gloves or grooming tools that other self-service washes provide but I was still able to clean my dog just fine. The blow dryer was very good but they need more than one since I was waiting more than 10 minutes for the other person to finish - minus one star for that. As for the store experience, the associates greet you with a smile right when you enter and are extremely helpful. I've never experienced this at a normal Petco or PetSmart. Another star off for the location and parking. If you come here during peak hours good luck turning onto Powell and if you have a large vehicle parking is a challenge if there are not many spaces left. Also at this intersection there are lots of riff raff so make sure to be aware of your surroundings. I probably won't come here again due to the location and I'd rather pay $5 more at this other self-service dog wash that I normally go to on Hawthorne as they have bibs, grooming tools and don't have to wait for a dryer. read more

Keep in mind this is an unleashed store so it's basically just for cats and dogs. They don't have as many products as the larger full stores. However, the girl that works here is THE BEST! I wish I knew her name, but she's been here EVERY single time I've been to this store. She's always so friendly, funny, bubbly, and helpful. She has great energy and makes you feel welcome when you're here. The store is also very clean, has a parking lot, and is conveniently located if you're in the SE. read more

Hands down, the best self wash around. I've been to four or five in the area and this one had me wowed. Pros: big clean tubs with non-slip mats on the bottom. Professional grade hoses {not just typical garden hose nozzles}. Plenty of towels that seemed like they were some kind of micro-fiber and did a great job on my husky/shepherd's thick fur. The dryer had actual warm air coming out, so it was actually drying my dog, not just blowing water off her. And it's only $10! Cons: Only one drying station. Luckily we didn't have to wait. Not a lot of room to set your stuff. The store staff is always so friendly here. They carry all the best brands and a great array of outdoor gear for dogs, i.e., camping, biking, hiking. Also, many organic treats and higher end items. We will definitely be returning. read more

I first came to this store because awhile back, we were playing with our puppy in Laurelhurst Park and a nice girl gave us a toy ball and a coupon to go there. I have to say that this store is always nice and tidy. It just looks fresh and cool inside. :) My 2nd visit there, I had questions about transitioning from puppy to adult food, and also a change for our kitty food. Tracy worked with me, and spent time talking to me and explaining things. She also helped me pick out some cool, yummy, fish flakes for kitty treats. :) AND she also gave me some catnip toys! :) Will definitely keep coming back here. :) read more

This place is amazing! Not only am I able to bath and dry my three saint Bernards...I get to pick up all the good I want and need for them all in the same place!!! The employees are so helpful, and always there to answer any questions you may have. They also hold a vaccine clinic once a month, with no visit fees, just vaccines! This place is the best! All the staff is great, friendly and happy to assist you and your pet. I feel at home every time I come in and they remember my pets names! Their return policy is second to none, they stand by their products. We need more stores like this. Matthew the dog trainer is amazing. He has helped us so much with our 2 rescue Pitbulls. I love Unleashed. At first, I was not sure what this store was just hearing and seeing the name. It turns out it is a pet store affiliated with Petco, but made more "boutiquey" carrying more orgainic stuff for our pets. I like that it's not a huge warehouse full of things I need to search through. I'm either in or out if I am just grabbing something particular, like fish oil or I am searching and researching for the best pet products without having to search the entire Petco store. The staff is always friendly and pets are always welcome! At the back of the store there is a spot where you can do it yourself wash your dog. I have a yorkie, so I never need to, but if I had a big dog, I can see how it's very convenient. Bonus: Open till 9. read more
