Started shopping here about a year ago. The store is always clean and welcoming and stocked with an amazing variety of goodies for my 4 legged family members. The manager ladies are wonderful. I see them and the rest of the staff addressing the regulars and their dogs by name and are so helpful and knowledgeable. I don't get in as often as I like but I came in on Saturday and the girls (Stacie and stephanie) were a huge help for all of my new puppies needs. 10/10 would recommend this store. I was a regular customer for over two years. Each time I'd go in, the employees would be very friendly to my dog and give her free treats. The last time I was there, one of the employees gave her a treat and then she said, "Oh you like buggies!" I asked her what she meant. She explained that she had given my dog meal-worm based treat or bug-based. This isn't something I even knew existed much less would ever give my dog. I left the store but called later to explain that I thought you should maybe ask the owners BEFORE you feed them "bugs." The employee still tried to sell me on the nutritional and cost effectiveness of bug based treats; I told her I didn't rescue my dog from the pound to feed her bugs. Now I'm wondering how many times in the past visits my dog was fed meal worm based treats. Anyway I just went back today and it was really awkward and this business has lost my trust as a customer which is a shame because it was near my house and my dog loved going but we won't be back. read more

A very friendly and welcome pet store in John's Landing! There is a very large selection of cat and dog supplies, as well as a section for small animals (they also sell guinea pigs, hamsters, mice...), and a small fish section. There's usually some cats for adoption from Cat Adoption Team as well. I do love to visit with them every time I'm in! In addition to supplies, there an enormous room dedicated to food alone. You won't find Science or Purina, but you will find many options for of grain-free, human-grade, top notch brands. The staff are very friendly. I was looking for a place to adopt a pair of fancy rats after my pair of old men passed away a long while back. While calling around, I came across Pet Loft, and the staff was incredibly friendly and informative, very transparent about how they handle their little baby rats and adopting them, and just overall very pleasant to talk to. Information in hand, I set out to reserve a pair of boys, and after the whole experience, I'm in love and banging pots and pans at people about how incredible the place is. I don't usually leave reviews or do social media, but I absolutely /had/ to leave a comment on this place. Go there. Give them your business. They absolutely deserve it. The staff is kind, and you can tell the minute you walk in that they care about the animals there. They're very gentle with them, and take an active interest in the animals going to their forever homes. It brings a smile to your face. The pair of rats I adopted, now named Geralt and Jaskier, are unbelievably cute, and very well-mannered. I'm very grateful to the staff for all of the information they provided when I called, and how nice they were when I reserved them and came to pick them up. It was a very smooth, stress free process. They have a very clean storefront, with a wide selection of products for not just dogs and cats, but also for small animals --- and they know where things are! Ah! I was having trouble finding the nail trimmer lining for my silent wheel and they knew just where it was, and were more than happy to point it out for me, and previously helped me select the right wheel for my new boys. I went to Pet Loft because they were the closest to my apartment and I am never going to any other store. The staff are so knowledgeable and truly care about animals--I told them I was adopting a cat and they walked me through everything I would need for her at home and were able to make some great recommendations and answer all my questions! This is my first time taking care of a cat on my own so the process of having to buy everything could have been super overwhelming but they made it so easy and my cat loves everything they helped me pick out! read more

I started shopping here several months ago. The initial experiences were positive, the staff was friendly and helpful. However, the last two visits to the store the same person mansplained to me after I indicated that yes I have purchased this food before and I understand how the frequent buyer program works. I did not need to have it explained to me again after indicating I was already part of the program. This was the first mansplain moment, I let it go, the second encounter was more explicit, explaining to me like I was a child and aggressively stating his opinion. This is not my first dog, he is not a vet and I am still a customer. I am debating whether or not I will continue bringing my business to this store. The location is convenient for me, however, his attitude does not make me feel welcome in the store. It might be helpful for the owners to conduct sensitivity training that women are not idiots. read more

I was initially brought into this store via the good reviews it received so I thought that I would add my own two cents. I've been in here a few times now and have always gotten personalized service but today took the cake. I spoke to the owner, Bill, for literally an hour. Never once did it feel rushed or like he was trying to upsell me. He just answered all of my many questions and gave me some great insights into good food to feed my 4 month old German Shepherd puppy. So I bought the food he recommended and came home to do some online fact checking. Apparently this food is just what he said it is and the best part is that it isn't even more expensive at this store than it would be to buy it anywhere else. Amazing customer service and it doesn't cost extra. This is a good thing. read more

I normally wouldn't rave about a pet store...but with the addition of a dog to our 3-cat house, we've been around town visiting many pet stores looking for the right stuff. We've been visiting Pet Loft for several years, ever since the first cat forced its way into our house (I still have the scars to prove it)...and every time I wish more shopping could be so nice. We've been to at least 1/2 the shops in town, and every time we get talked into visiting a new place by friends we leave saying "now, why did we come here?" Its even more reinforced when we visit one of the big name brand shops on the "Blvd of Rose". Pet Loft has one of the broadest selections of supplies in town. Cat stuff, got it. Dog stuff, got it. Small mammal stuff, got it. Bird stuff, got that too. Sprinkle some fish food over the top and you have Pet Loft. The staff is amazing, outrageously friendly and knowledgeable. The male of the owning family has a back ground working for some of the less than great conglomerate pet food mfgrs, which he isn't shy about admitting. He knows the pet food very well, perhaps too well? They could just have easily sold us the most expensive (and likely highest margin food) in the store, but were more than happy to guide us down a better path. So we've got quality cat food, quality dog food, and an insane assortment of toys supported by our 6' tall "Cat Castle" (I can't think of any other way to describe it). We will support this local business as long as they allow us to. read more

Very nice selection of dog and cat toys, as well as leashes and collars. Great selection of crate liners - I was happy to find something that would work equally as well in the back of my car. I do wish their bird toy and bird perch selection were more robust, but we are finding more and more that there is not enough real estate in in-town stores for bird items. They have a handful of cats available for adoption (these are cats that came from MCAS), and they're kind enough to host outreach events for the dogs of MCAS. If not for the outreach event, I may never have known that this place exists. That whole SW section of town is admittedly a mystery to me, but I was there in no time from downtown the other day when I had to solve a bird food emergency. I will definitely come here more often now that I know they're here, and their selection is somewhat different from my local pet store. I'm all about spreading the love among local businesses, and this one is so worth supporting. read more

So we have this kitty ... who's a little on the heavy side ... and we got a recommendation from our vet to put him on "raw food." OK -- I'm a vegetarian and raw food (for those who don't know) is basically raw meat ground up and mixed with other stuff that's good for kitty's with big bellies (and those without I'm sure). So I did some research and discovered the Pet Loft. I must say -- wonderful store. Lots of organic and natural products. Lots and lots of kitty stuff - many choices for litter boxes and climbing trees. I can't speak to the dog or other pet stuff (cuz we only have kitties) - but it looks prett robust. They sell fish and have a mean surly bird that hangs out in it's cage squawking (just reinforces my vow to never have birds). The staff is awesome! They're super friendly and helpful -- AND they know about the stuff they're selling ... which I find very nice. OH and they're open til 7 so I can hit the store on the way home from work ... unlike many other small shops in the world who close at 5 ... whats up with that. MEOW! read more

Both me and my dog are much happier individuals after visiting the Pet Loft for some itch remedies. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. My dog Tanner cut her large pad on her rear paw on some broken glass while camping and we needed some protective shoes. The staff was very attentive and doted on Tanner made her very comfortable with gentle approach and treats. The Pet Loft doesn't have the hugest selection of cat toys but they have the absolute best... Neko Flies cat toys are amazing. (https://www.nekoflies.com/products) I have two cats, one that's five years old and one that's just five months old. The older cat's always been really picky about toys, once and awhile tussling with a stuffed catnip mouse, but for the most part ignoring anything except for the laser pointer and even that doesn't occupy him for long. He loves the Neko Flies dragonfly, doing backflips I didn't even know he was physically capable of doing! He never tires of playing with it (or at least not before I do). My baby girl wasn't quite as impressed, even though she watched it, so I went back to the pet store and picked up another rod with a small mouse attachment. She loves it as much as my boy loves his dragonfly! The Pet Loft also has peacock feathers for $1 and overall have fair prices for a local pet store. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The store is opened later than most small pet shops. I want to give it five stars but I wish they had a few more toys, supplies, etc so I could do all my shopping here. read more

In my opinion, this is the best pet store in all of Portland. My husband and I moved to the east side and still come over to Pet Loft whenever we need dog food, treats or vitamins for our large dog. Bill always takes the time to explain everything and spent a good 20 minutes with us last time talking about dog food options and the best thing for our Bernese. The dog food fixed the digestive problems our dog was having and we were thrilled! The staff are all very knowledgeable and willing to lend a helping hand whenever they can. read more

The staff is exceptionally helpful - I was looking for a water-resistant jacket for my dog, and one of the staff members helped us try on many different brands/sizes until we found the perfect match! (The pup has received many compliments on her red plaid jacket, and the reflectors are fantastic for nighttime walks.) Although the jacket was more expensive than I was expecting, I've been pleased with the quality and I haven't seen it sold in any of the other shops. We love Pet Loft and buy all our cat food, litter, treats, toys, etc. there. We've shopped at Pet Loft for the last 6+ years and go there monthly for food, etc. The owner is very knowledgeable about foods and diet issues. He's helpful and takes a lot of time if you have questions. He's recommended two veterinarians to us and both have been excellent choices for us. This is an amazing store with the best staff!!! I was in town on vacation and stopped in to get my picky-eater dog some food. They didn't have the brand I usually buy from my local bay area store, but they talked to me about the different brands that they sell. Well...my dog LOVED the food. Now...back in the bay I couldn't remember the name of the food. So I gave them a call and explained the situation. They were so nice, helpful and cheery I couldn't believe it!
