It's well stocked and reasonably priced. But FYI, their rewards system is mostly fake. It's really a way to track your purchases, and only certain brands qualify. You need to ask to see your reward page, then you'll see. Maybe you will hit the jackpot for having bought the qualifying brands. None of mine did. I have raised this issue with two salespeople, both of whom were not interested. Pre-COVID, they had a real in-house rewards system. read more

A very large store with plenty of room to move around and browse. Dogs on a leash are welcome. I go there for squirrel food and nuts that they sell by the pound (scoop it yourself). It's much cheaper than the pre-bagged food at Fred Meyer. They have a large variety of items for almost any pet or farm animal you could think of. Big parking lot. I am a dog and cat owner - no exotics - and as such find Western Pet Supply to be a great resource. The selection is second to none. My dog was recently diagnosed with a food allergy and short of going on line, this was the only store I found in close proximity to carry the food his allergist recommended. I find prices on the goods I buy to be no higher than the competition. Pet food - like many things - has gotten expensive over the last few years. Service is adequate if not over the top. Unlike most retail pet stores, Western is spacious, including the isles. Four stars due to the difficulty of getting into and out of their lot (nightmare intersection in Raliegh Hills), and not accepting Apple Pay. I highly recommend them. read more

Sneaky Miss O. Hoobert (see my profile photos to view a captive Hoobert) suddenly developed the ability to CLIMB out of her kennel and jump out. Mind you, it's over 3 feet tall and she's as big as a football. A small nerf football. We realized this when we came home and she was running around the garage. The kennel door was locked. We put her back in and she scales the wire cage and does a push up to get over the top. So off we go to buy her a crate with a roof, when it turns out PETCO, who sold us the kennel, doesn't sell the roof part of the kennel we bought. We drove quite a ways to Western Pet Supply, where they were completely friendly, helpful, and had a much better selection of dog stuff than I ever see at PETCO. We didn't look at other pet stuff, but I saw lots of room devoted to cat supplies and fish. The guy really took a lot of time talking to us about the best crate for the wall scaling puppy and even told us to buy the product in a different finish because it was cheaper. Very cool. It's really too far away to drive there for occasional supplies but I would go back for a big purchase. The prices are competitive and the service is great. They do have 3 foot long bull penis dog chews, but we had to pass on that. Still, 3 feet? Wow. Updated to add that I've been back and it still deserves 5 stars. The staff are so helpful and the store is well stocked with goodies and treats for the pup. She peed on the carpet and they didn't get upset and almost wouldn't let me clean it up, I had to insist that they let me. Afterall, it is my dog's pee! read more

Eh, I kind of feel like a jerk for just giving an A-OK rating, but that's exactly what this store is to me. It just says "pet supply" - it doesn't say 98% dog and cat supply. Because that's really what it is. I'm a bird owner - yes, that falls under the category of pets! - and there's...just nothing here for birds. Some bird seed, maybe a toy or two but it's really a sad selection. The only perk was their millet-by-the-pound but that's simply not enough reason to come back. So yup, primary for your kitty or pup. And expect to pay quite a few more $$ - I was sticker shocked a few times! read more

My soft spot for animals will forever be my weakness, if that's even considered a weakness. I have two kitties, brudder and seestor (spelled how it sounds) and was in need of purchasing some kitty paraphernalia, you know, toys, treats, kitty carriers - basically the works. What brought a smile to my face when walking in were the little red wagons, for carrying your shopping supplies; anyone else think those are endearing? I found the staff to be very helpful and were able to answer all my questions. The place is much larger than what it appears. I understand they do cater to the most common pets, so that could be challenging to some folks. Overall, I'm a huge proponent for supporting local businesses, especially when it comes to my pets. read more

I really, really love this store. I buy all of my two dogs' food and supplies here. Great selection, prices, and a friendly, knowledgeable staff! However, we are living in a pandemic and I was surprised to see none of the staff wearing masks or social distancing. I understand not being able to maintain 6' distance, but that's where the masks come in. I was approached by a super friendly staff member who was awesome and knowledgeable, and I could tell genuinely wanted to help me, but wasn't maintaining social distance or wearing a mask. I felt rude backing away but not in a position to take any chances :( Can you clarify your employee mask policy, or if it is possible to request staff maintains social distance while shopping? I was in a quandary. Could not buy the prescription cat food I needed at the vet and not available to be shipped. Amanda at Western Pet Supply actually researched what I needed. She found several good substitutes on the shelf for me, even giving a 10% discount for buying at least eight cans. So I was lured here by The Rabbit Advocacy Group (rabbit.org) which offered a free nail clipping at this location last month. I came in to get my bunneh's nails clipped and left fourty bucks lighter. After chit-chatting with the group about food, hay and grooming I was sent in the direction of some great products that were far better quality than anything I have seen @ Petco. Now my bunneh's won't eat the other hay I bought or the pellets. (I have pondered the theory about if they lace it all w/ crack.) The staff was very helpful plus they allow the rabbit group and a pug group to set-up camp, which I think is awesome! They also helped me pick the right hay for my buns. Now I need to head back to WPS for more hay/crack. read more

Why does local have to be so expensive. It must be a gimic like organic means 50% mark up, same goes for local. However, I like Western Pet Supply. I like their pet food products. I know the toy selection is vast, but I didn't find anything doggy would like (I'm picky for her). We got picked up an ID tag at Western Pet Supply. The staff was helpful and patient. Western Pet Supply has a great selection of quality dog food. I assume their other foods are equally good. I attribute my dogs long and healthy life to the quality and consistency of his food. Western Pet has continued to stock Solid Gold(a type of good dog food) for 10 years. I am so appreciative of this single fact, that I am writing to support them. The staff will help with large bags of food or bales of chips or other large items. This is very helpful when you have small kids in tow. One of the best local pet supply stores around town. They have around a long time and offer some of the best service anywhere. Whether you are looking for Dog, cat, fish, hamster, bird, or whatever the supplies they have are a huge selection of the many different brands that they like and believe in. They have some great prices on things too. And wow you can actually get help, not just from KNOWLEDGEABLE staff which is totally lacking at the big box pet stores but help carrying the two 50lb bags of food to your car. Great place to find kennels, crates, bedding even wild bird food. They have lots of different addoption groups come in and help pets find homes and there is even a clinic on Sundays. And training classes for dogs are usually going on weekly. read more

This place doesn't look super-fancy from the road or from their sign. They have a HUGE selection inside, though-- everything from super fancy specialized dog food to gear for less common pets. I was able to get a lot of rabbit food here at a very reasonable price, and the staff told me they sell bales of Timothy hay at a good price also. This means I'm a huge fan right away. Glancing around the store I can tell I'll be back for dog and cat products, too. Glad to have this place around. Plus, there are cute little red wagons you can wheel around the store as you shop. read more

We buy roaches for our bearded dragon here. The health of the roaches seems great. They are a little pricy. I like these guys. They are not near my house, but I will go if looking for something in particular. Nice people, big selection -- insane selection of dog and cat food! I have found fun toys that no one else had (our favorite 'babies' as toys....but mini sized for our new puppy). Although I do not need a stroller for my dog -- they have that, too! Tons of crates, beautiful collars and harnesses, beds for dogs -- they even have puppy and dog training there. Why go to a chain unless you are driving through Oklahoma City and don't know where else to go? Shop local. read more

I LOVETHIS PLACE!!! I called around several Portland pet shops looking for a basket harness for my dog. None had them but one sent me to western pet supply. They had a great assortment and the staff went above and beyond to help me. I took my two rescue dogs (very sweet but terrified/aggressive towards dogs) and marcia helped me find muzzles that fit. My dogs loved her even though it can be stressful to fit them. They also had a great selection of seatbelts. These two items have already made life so much easier. PROS: amazing selection of products and VERY knowledgable staff. CONS: far from where I live read more

I love this store. I was looking for a particular dog food. I'd called 4 pet food places in Portland area and they were the only store that carried the dog food. They have good selection of only GOOD/Excellent dog foods and treats you can't find other places. Also, the prices are pretty good. They've even answered my question through email quickly! I LOVE Western Pet Supply. They have such an awesome group of people working there. Every time I stop by I leave smiling and am excited to bring home my cat daughter's or dog son's new something. I have to say, after leaving there tonight I don't think I'll be shopping anywhere else. My cat has been having reoccurring UTI's and I knew it was time to switch from the high quality grain free dry food I've had her on. I've researched relentlessly what brand of canned food is best and how much to feed and WOW how expensive good quality canned food is. I kept stumbling on the raw food diet and how it's the best choice for a cat, but I had NO idea what that would entail. I didn't think I'd be able to afford it, but I inquired the staff there and let me tell you, they have some knowledge under their belts. Long story short he said the reason why raw food diets are a bit cheaper than high quality canned food is because companies that can food often outsource to other companies that run 24 hrs a day to can, which raises the price. Raw food can be done with the company itself without outsourcing because it's produced in such small batches and not a lot of processing needs to be done. He walked me through the different choices in raw foods and explained each one in great detail. I am so grateful that they are so close and so friendly and willing to help out whenever you need it. Pet lovers look no further, this pet store is fantastic! Whether you have a bunny or cat, dog or guinea pig, the selection here is great. It even has supplies for feeding wild birds. The selection for dogs and cats occupies most of the floor space but my three-legged guinea pig has gotten some great loot from Western Pet Supply. The products for dogs that they carry is impressive. If you're looking for a Ruffwear harness, they have multiple kinds. If you want a Jolly Egg, they have two different sizes. Looking for Ziwipeak, a premium dog food from New Zealand? How about a squeaky stuffed shark? Comfy, cozy beds? Expandable crates? Exercise pens that break down? Yeah... all those things, they have. And if they don't have them, just check in with a knowledgeable employee and they can let you know when their next shipment is coming in or if it can be special-ordered. Their cat selection looks equally impressive. They have cat grass at the front of the store, wand toys, many litter varieties... it's awesome! The only thing I've gone there for and haven't been able to find in stock is the white Care Fresh small animal litter but that isn't a game-changer (I can get that almost anywhere else). I really like the small animal hides and natural chews that they keep in stock. There was a day when someone came in with an unleashed dog and instead of throwing a fit, the staff kindly offered a leash to the dog's owner. The staff usually takes a minute to come over and greet my dog with tasty snacks and Daeli (my beagle) loves it. Also the staff can set you up with a frequent buyer program, which vary by company. This store is huge and have a good selection of food and accessories for exotic animals (in my case: rabbit). I stumbled upon this place from Rabbit Associate's website. They offer nail trimming and grooming plus rabbit adoption once a month. Glad to make the trip to this place and I believe they are locally owned. As far as i can see, they have plenty of selection for dogs and cats. Location wise is a bit inconvenient but if you go during the weekend, it shouldn't be that bad. read more

This place is great! Nice selection of accessories and foods for all animals, I can go in and get something for my dog AND my hamster. They have GREAT prices on bulk small animal foods, but it's good to be aware that their bulk foods tend to be infested with a ton of creepy-crawlies. Gross little buggers, the kind that can't even be squished with your nail. Not a big deal if you freeze the food for 48 hours before giving it to your small animal, but kind of concerning nonetheless. read more
