Surprise Surprise, we were going to conca d' oro and decided to give this place a try. What a breathe or fresh air in orange,very nice decor well treated by Tony. We will definitely be back the food was very good and the service was great. We went with the tapas and tried several of the dishes of the menu. Absolutely amazing!! Such a good find in OC! This area has needed a Mediterranean restaurant for a long time now. Each dish was served hot and fresh. Can't say enough about the cauliflower small plate and the pita bread. The chicken kabob is recommended as well. Hoping to be served by Avi again. I have come here quite a few times.. It's in my neck of the woods and I was sent here by client raving about the food. Now that I have been here I would rate it 10 stars I could! The ambience is amazing! Perfect mood lighting with music that makes you relax and feel like vacation even if it's for a few ours. The food! My goodness I don't care what you order EVERYTHING is supreme. I don't know how Henry the cook/owner does it right, he cooks for the whole restaurant with a open kitchen. Met a coworker after work today at this cute little place. It's inviting as you walk in and it was so nice to be warmly welcomed right away. We ordered a glass of wine from their extensive wine list and enjoyed the atmosphere. I had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious!!! This is one of the very few reviews that I wrote. We went to Truffle Bistro because we didn't know that Conca D' Oro Italian restaurant next door is closed on Monday and there are many good reviews on Yelp. There were only two people working in the restaurant, one chef and one server. The food was not that good. We ordered 1) Signature Penne pasta with chicken in creamy marsala sauce $17 - taste ok (pasta night special $15) 2) Truffle Special pizza $15 - taste ok but very small like appetizer 3) 12oz Ribeye steak $28 - the meat was spoiled When the steak came, I smelled some sort of salty fish smell. At first, I thought the chef has used anchioves. But I later realized that the steak has gone bad after my first bite. I told the server that the Ribeye was spoiled, the chef agreed to change the dish for us immediately. I then ordered "Signature Penne pasta with chicken in creamy balsamic vinegar sauce". It took at least another 20min for the new pasta dish to come. I like the balsamic sauce but the pasta was undercooked. In this price range, I guess I would expect more from the food. Also, since the smell of the steak was quite strong, I wonder if the chef knew that the meat has gone bad before serving us. I give 2 stars - one star for the nice atmosphere, one star for the super attentive server. Additional comment #2: With 2 small kids and 2 adults, I believe most people would agree that ordering 3 regular entrees are fair to the restaurant. Also, the Truffle Special Pizza was not under Appetizer. So, it cannot be compared to small tapas portion, especially when you are charging $15 for it. Like I said in my review, the 1st pasta was cooked right but the 2nd pasta was under cooked. Regardless, we can tell huge difference in the consistency between the 1st and 2nd, which should not happen for professional chef. By the way, the bill was only $45+tax last night. With the food quality and the wait time on the make-up dish, I think 15% tips was more than fair. Additional comment #3: 1) The ribeye steak was rotten, it is a fact! I don't believe that you did not know it when you cooked the steak. It is your responsibility to provide fresh food to your customers, DEFINITELY NOT COURTESY! 2) Customers are not obligated to pay tips. It is a "nice gesture" and the amount is based on the whole dining experience and customer satisfaction. 3) If it was not the server who provided good service, we would not even bother to give any tips. If you think the server was being punished, you were the culprit who punished him, not us. 4) Please stop arguing with your customers and be more open for comments, good or bad... Now, rather than keep on arguing, you should probably go check on your food inventory and make sure everything is fresh before serving other customers. Thank you and good luck! read more

Small restaurant that is largely a one man show in an unassuming strip mall location on Tustin Ave in Orange. The neat surprise here is the litany of amazing dishes the chef turns out. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Had the lamb shank as an entree per chefs recommendation and was not disappointed. Wine list was not too my taste so I brought my own. Food is highly recomended. Second visit. Loved the anchovy dish. Fresh anchovies. Special was sardines also very good. The gnocchi and the duck breast were quite good. In fact by now Ive tried virtually every dish and all are above average. Henry is really a great chef. His staff is generally one gal either Avi or Catania and they do a great job. I went here for happy hour recently. We ordered sangria and the house white wine. The sangria was very fruity and sweet. We had our drinks with an order of calamari. It was freshly fried with pepperoncinis. I've never had them this way and it was so good. The combination of chewy calamari with the acid from the pepperoncinis tasted perfectly together. My only qualm about the place is the happy hour price. Drinks and food were only a 1 dollar off. It really is not much of a discount for a pricier restaurant. This is a hidden gem! Delicious food, attentive service and good prices. We tried the mussels and clams, fried cauliflower, margarita pizza and a few other tapas-style dishes. Everything was excellent. Just as good was the service--our waiter was polite, knowledgeable and right there whenever we needed him. Last weekend 1/13/18 I was excited to try this place as I love giving local places serving non-traditional fare a shot. My girlfriend and I decided to give it a shot without first having a reservation. We walked in the door and there were a couple of open tables and several open seats at the bar. We waited a couple of minutes for someone to welcome us or say "Hi!". Nothing. No one was in line in front of us. Waited 10-12 more minutes...nothing. Someone called the restaurant and one of the servers ran to the phone which is right next to the front door...he picked up the phone and then turned his back to us while chatting (still, no one else was in line.) After a quick phone call he went back to running around the open kitchen. Keep in mind that since they hadn't even greeted us yet, they didn't even know that we didn't have a reservation! While I thought it was actually pretty funny at that point, my girlfriend felt disrespected so we just left. We ended up going to a great Mexican food place in Garden Grove as that was our second choice for the night and had a great time. I hope this place improves to become better than our first experience as I'd like to give them another chance at some point as maybe they were just finding their groove still since they're new. read more

I would of loved to have given better review. The food was delicious with a great wine selection, but one server in particular was rude and lacked any customer service skills whatsoever. I called the restaurant for reservations and was informed they don't take any. I proceeded to ask if they could accommodate a party of 6 for a birthday dinner. He asked for what time? I said 8:30pm he said "Oh yeah that won't be a problem." Yes it was since the kitchen closed at 9pm. We arrived and it was still fairly packed so we waited about 15 min for a table to be set up. We were seated and a delightful waitress named Daisy greeted us and asked us what we would like for drinks? We're torn between two different bottles of wine and we asked for her suggestion. She informed us if there were open bottles we should be able to taste each one. The next thing we know a young waiter approached us in a haughty voice and tells us we can't try wines. The wine list we were looking at is sold by the bottle and walks off. Well duh! That's why we were looking that particular list! We decided to order a bunch of tapas roasted cauliflower, roasted Brussel Sprouts, tuna tartar, truffle fries, mussels & clams, fried calamari, Gary's stuffed mushrooms. I need to add we weren't given any plates until the last few tapas were served. As we were eating we decided to order a pasta dish the birthday boy wanted. The same rude waiter walks up to tell us the kitchen is closing as this will be the last order. So we're trying decide if we should get the pizza or the Spanakopita. We ask him for a suggestion and he answers with "do you want the Spanakopita as a tapas or as an entree?" We ask is it big enough to share along with the pasta? He says yes. We get the food and it obvious the Spanakopita is a tapas and no the pasta isn't big enough to share. I honestly feel like he rushed us, he approached us from the beginning with a bad attitude and he didn't bother to listen to give us the proper answers. Like I mentioned the food was good, but it could of been stellar if it weren't for the bad waiter. A great night dining out for a special occasion encompasses good food, good drinks, good ambience, and most importantly excellent service. This place lacks the latter part and I strongly suggest to inform people before they come for a birthday dinner that your kitchen closes at 9 and to not come with a party of 6 at 8:30 especially when you don't take reservations. Also your waiter needs a refresher course in customer service. His attitude was one of worst I've ever encountered. Update: Henry thank you for your response. Like I mentioned your food and wine selection was great! We look forward to trying the rest of your menu. Unfortunately since I posted my review.
