The BBQ is "ok" at best. Maybe just bad luck on my part but I've been there three times and have not been impressed. Sliced brisket had a nice flavor but was mushy. Fell apart like it was too long on a steam table. Ribs were bland and too fatty. Maybe needed more time in the smoker? Sausage was good but that's a reflection of the sausage maker. Frito pie was light on brisket compared to the amount of Fritos. Brisket baked potato had enough brisket but the potato was dry. On the plus side, the staff is friendly and $2 craft beer pints on Tuesday are great. The turkey seems to get good reviews so I'll give it a try sometime but I'm not in a rush to do so. read more

This was the best BBQ I've had in a long time, i got the fatty brisket and it was fall apart moist, great char, and amazing smoke flavor. Also got the smoked turkey equally amazing as the brisket, and do yourself a favor and try the bbq beans, I'm pretty picky about beans and these were hands down the best beans I've had from a restaurant ever! Ive been here a few times and I have to say I was even surprised how good it was!! You would never think that a restaurant attached to a grocery store would be any good. But it's not your typical groceries store either. You've got to be Texan to know how good HEB truly is. And True Texas BBQ is no exception. I have learned to order the Loaded Cornbread which has become my go to. But everything there I've tried has been good. It's no-frills BBQ, they don't sale Tee Shits or frozen pre-cooked brisket with their name all over it. Truth is I'd buy a tee shirt though...maybe they should think about selling them. Part of me was hesitant to post this review. I like short lines and hidden gems, but the BBQ is to good not to share. I hope they start opening more locations. I've been to the Kingwood location as well, I highly recommend that one too. read more

Brisket is spot on!!! Ask for the lean meat though because the regular is pretty fatty. Can NOT go wrong with the chopped beef/sliced beef sandwich. Beans are ok. The turkey was dry the day I had it. Really liked their fatty brisket. Better than Reveille down the road. Wish they had included some sauce but as is true with good brisket it wasn't needed. And a quirky thing, they neatly wrapped up the brisket and one sausage in separate packages. Not used to that. read more

Ok bbq. Nothing special. They ran out of brisket 4 hours before they were closing when we went. How do you operate a barbecue restaurant inside a grocery store and run out of anything? although we didn't get one, their sandwiches seem extremely overpriced at $12 and $13 each. I got ribs and they were dry and overdone and tasted like they had been cooked hours before. And pretty small too. Beans and coleslaw were boring. And instead of having a pickle and onion bar they give you very small portions with your meal. My girlfriend got the baked potato with turkey and was happy with it although they were a bit skimpy with the meat. Doubt that we will go back there. read more

The staff here tonight closing up was so nice! They were extremely hospitable to me and my wife even though we showed up minutes to closing. Since it was so late they were out of sliced brisket which is understandable because that's how BBQ places work, however they were also out of baked potatoes and offered to bake me a fresh one. I have eaten here a few times when I was running errands & getting groceries. They're located inside of the HEB at Tamina Rd. & 1488. Last Saturday I took my daughter there for a quick lunch. The lean brisket was very tender & had a flavorful coating. My daughter said that her pulled pork sandwich was good. My wife & I have also eaten there before. She likes their sausage and says it's very good when it's not over cooked. You get a choice of either sweet or spicy BBQ sauce. They have a nice selection of both draught & bottled beers. The service has always been friendly & reasonably quick, even when they are busy! One of the better BBQ establishments in the area. read more

We have tried this BBQ twice and do not like it. Born and raised Texan, we know BBQ and this does not live up to its name. The brisket is good. The sauce is okay. The sides are terrible. Beans have a weird flavor and green beans have more tomatoes then green beans. Potato salad is okay but we all like the mustard potato salad which is the way we make it here in Texas! I really enjoyed it here when they first opened, but lately the brisket is so incredibly salty and over seasoned, it was practically inedible the last 2-3 times we have had it. Brisket only needs salt and pepper. The Mac-n-Chz is very good, and I love the location and hours. I just wish they would stop putting so much seasoning on the brisket. It's supposed to be the star of the show. It's especially bad in the chopped brisket. I ordered a sandwich to go and I got home and couldn't eat the bottom bun because it was SOAKED with grease. This was my 1st time here, I wasn't impressed. We got a 3 meat plate (2 bones of ribs, 1 piece of brisket, sausage slices). Ribs were better than average, sausage average, fatty brisket (you get choice if lean or fatty) little dry and it was warm not hot temperature wise (and it was only 7p they close at 9p so why wasn't it HOT) plus 2 sides. Mac & cheese was good but I thought green beans were subpar, price of the plate $15 that doesn't include a drink. I WOULD NOT try it again. read more

Just opened today inside the new HEB and was delicious! Had the stuffed baked potato with turkey which was a very large potato and had a lot of meat on it. The 2 meat plate with brisket and pulled pork was small. However it was so really juicy and tender. Not to mention great bark on the brisket. The coleslaw was ok but the brisket baked beans were the best. The banana pudding is a must try. I don't know how they got the pudding so fluffy. Better than my grandma used to make (sorry to say). Even better you can buy the food by the 1/2 lb or they have party packs to go for catering. I love Corkscrew bqq but I would put this brisket right up there with them and it's much closer without the long line. Must try! read more

Been here quite a few times. Everything is good, but the turkey truly shines. Brisket beans are great.

The last few times I have been there the brisket was tough and dry. This has been over the last year to year and 1/2. Before that time they had the best brisket I have ever eaten anywhere very tender very moist and had the best flavor. I am not sure if they got a new manager or they got a new owner but it is not the same barbecue as it was two years ago. I probably will not ever go in again as I have given up on the place. I loved the meat and coleslaw,but I was disappointed in the green beans. They were in a broth that reminded me or boiled orkra.

Tried their ribs and not even close to Texas BBQ. I may try them later during the year but for now they are off my list.

Great food to grab and go or eat before you shop. Prime rib was a great surprise. The beer selection is good too.

Brought home the brisket, ribs, and turkey along with a bunch of sides. All 3 were extremely flavorful and very fresh. As far as sides, we got the beans, potato salad, green beans, and cole slaw. extremely ticked at this place. I come and order fatty brisket and ask to trim the fat some( which I've always done and have done for yrs since this place opened) I get home and just complete rocks of meat. definitely not fatty..basically lean that has been dried the heck out and feels like a stone. I didnt eat any of it and complete waste of 20 dollars. I called and talked to the guy there first asking to explain the difference between fatty and lean( just to see what his response is) he seems to know the difference yet whoever cuts the meat back there really should pursue something else since they cant follow instructions or properly know how to serve brisket. It's okay, sometimes we all have tom pursue different things...I told him on the phone if you ever see me, ever, If I ever decided to give true texas another try, whether that is in a year , 5 years whenever, remind me of May 27th so I can have it forever ingrained in me that I completely wasted money and that place and its likely to occur again. Love this place always consistent. My favorite is the fatty brisket along with the cream corn and beans with brisket in it. This is my go to place for good barbecue. I think they are better than a couple of places that I know of in Tomball and Magnolia. read more
