After a brief hold they said he got the wrong order & his food is there. They asked for him to return the wrong order when he comes to get his food. Really, really hope they don't try & serve food that has been in someone's possession. In the past I've had a drive thru employee hand me the wrong bag & realize it. I handed it back & he said they can't take it back or let it pass back through the window. The brisket was on the greasy end and had no flavor on its own (I prefer not having to drench my BBQ in sauce), but the ribs were excellent and we really appreciated the more unique items on the menu. The buttery Burnt Ends and the (pepper-jelly glazed?!) stuffed Texas Torpedo are definitely some reasons to come back! The prices were quite steep but comparable to any decent BBQ spot with the economy these days lol ($50 for a somewhat filling lunch for 2 people)... This is my go to Texas barbecue place. When I shop at HEB I order my meal to go. Brisket is tender, ribs fall off the bone, brisket beans are delicious and the cream corn. Service has always been quick and friendly. I have only eaten there once and it's away from the store and quiet. read more

Been there about a half dozen times and each meal was on par with other bbq restaurants. No joke.

At first try I waited in line 10 minutes (there was only 3 customers ahead of me) and the line didn't move so i did my grocery shopping and returned on the way out. I ordered a sandwich and a link sausage. After a few minutes they called my name, handed me a bag, and said 'thanks, have a nice day". As I started to get in my car I checked the bag and there was no sandwich, only a side of pickles and onions (which I told them I didn't want when I placed the order). I returned to the store and the gave me carry out container with my sandwich. I should have checked then but found out when I arrived at home that there was no link sausage included. I had to go back a third time to get my sausage link. And as for the link, they sliced it up and crammed it into a little cup. Wtf? At least slice it all the way thru as you have to dump it all out and slice again to separate each piece. And they sliced it lengthwise, so each slice was 3-4 inches long, which also had to be cut to eat. I thought I was getting an actual link, not "sausage in a cup". Pitiful. Just pitiful. The sad news is that management will probably never see this Yelp complaint and wouldn't act even if they did. read more

BBBQ, what's the extra B for? BYOBB. Apart from the Red River way down in League City this joint provides the most reliable and best (easily accessible) BBBQ I have found in the greater Houston area which makes it an easy favourite for repeat visits. Similar to Rudy's as a no frills, fast-very-casual order at the counter type experience; but overall better in many ways. And doesn't require canceling all plans, packing a backpack of road trip snacks, and telling your children you love them in case you don't come back just so you can stand in line for seven hours at that one over in Pearland everyone is always going on about to justify spending an entire day standing in line to get (if they don't prematurely run out of) meats. There are meatheads, and then there are meatheads the way that term was used in the Back to the Future films. The True Texas has two types of sauces you pump yourself into those little plastic cups next to the soda fountain: one is a derivative of Rudy's hot (the redder, thinner looking sauce) and the other is a much thicker sweeter type distantly reminiscent of Stubbs' sweet heat but even thicker than that one. The two types of sauces are wonderful offerings to complement whether it is chicken, brisket, or other. This joint is located just inside the HEB beyond the main entrance in the front of the store, which depending on the path you take in you might have walked through the patio with all of the BBBQ grilles outside already to get you in the mood for a trill taste of Texas. There are posted instructions to leave your cart outside of the queue to order but you will still see nearly all people with their cart inside the queue if they have shopped first before ordering. You order and pay once you have the pole position in the queue then you swing over to the "interior" of the resto to git your own sauces, drinks, etc. and wait for your order to be up at the side window. Minor complaints include them running out of chicken all of the time (gurrrrrrl, if it is that popular just make some more and then you can sell more!) and the lean brisket not always being as lean as you would believe the word indicates, although since this is the suburbs of Houston perhaps they mean "lean" as in you know, how the rappers use it these days. If true, you should also pick up some Sprite, styrofoam cups, and give soundcloud rapper codenamed Lil Marco a call for the other thing. But, a taste of this BBBQ is a taste of Texas, trill (true) Texas in fact. Especially the chicken. They really had to do it to the chicken. Which makes the few rare times you are early enough to grab one a win in any book so it is your turn for the tasting. Apart from minor complaints everything else is aces down at the True Texas. The teens working the "order's up" window are always incredibly polite as they double check everything you ordered is there as it is supposed to be before you are two towns over realising they forgot the last B in the BBBQ order. You are able to get your sauces and plastic ware and choose a table before they call your number. We decided to try True Texas BBQ inside of HEB. Picky on BBQ so we split a pulled pork sandwich, side of potato salad and banana pudding. The pulled pork sandwich was delicious. Sauce was on the side and it was so good you really didn't need any. We tried it and the sauce also was delicious The potato salad was pretty good. It had a little kick to it, red potatoes with skins, not all in small pieces and no mustard or sweet pickles...a good thing. Banana pudding is made in house. We didnt care for the pudding because it had banana extract in it. I don't care for that taste. The vanilla wafers were however, still crispy. Prices are reasonable and the menu has plenty to offer. The interior of the restaurant is so cute and clean. Kind of a modern, industrial and old style decor. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly, helpful and must be the owner. The heavenly aroma from the parking lot is Devine and From there, it's mesmerizing and pulls one towards the far right HEB entrance to the True Texan BBQ. Stopped in for a late din din ...sweet staff, clean establishment and From first appearance- nothing special but 3 steps into dining area... it's no longer a grocery store vibe... it's a bonafide BBQ joint. I ordered the 3 meat platter to sample and share, and my table mates ordered the texas-size baked & stuffed Potatoes (one with brisket and other pulled pork). Perhaps it's due to dining towards later operating hours, but the group consensus on the overall meat platter was just ok (smelled better vs the look, taste, texture) and The Potato gents enjoyed theirs for the most part. Any Texas BBQ resturant with "True" in its name, along with 5 stars (despite limited reviews due to being so new) is going to grab my attention and service. Here's one more 5 star rating for ya! This place will kind of remind you of Rudy's (popular Texas BBQ chain) but with better food quality like that found in a non-chain 'hole in the wall' joint. They have good moist brisket, decent sides, but their signature smokes were the ribs (top 3rd I've ever had) and turkey - so moist and rich in flavor. I had the 1/2 lb. sliced brisket sandwich (fatty cut) w/ side of mac & cheese & sweet tea. The sandwich was among the better brisket I've had, w/ plenty of bark on the meat slices. I was really hungry, so was able to finish the whole thing, but the fatty meat richness pushed me to the limit. The smaller size sandwich would work for most people. They had the sauce options, Kansas City and Spicy. Both sauces were above average, even though I don't think they're made on site. Mac & cheese was simple, but delicious!
