I couldn't wait to try this BBQ. It didn't disappoint. I had the potato with sliced brisket. The potato was nice and tender. I ordered from a kiosks, an employee was walking around helping if you wanted. My food was really promptly. It was delicious. I can't wait to try the ribs.

My husband surprised me with a last minute date offer midweek. Time is limited after work, and we got stuck in traffic cutting into our time even more. Fortunately, he had a quick dinner planned - True Texas BBQ. We had to rush even more than expected, but our dinner was ready fast, and we wolfed it down while trying to enjoy it. As usual, the brisked and turkey hit the spot. That's all we got, because we're both doing keto diets. Then we hurried off, got stuck in more traffic, and finally got to our main destination - an off-broadway play, missing the first song. It was the perfect healthy dinner before a night out!

This is essentially a tiny storefront inside the Mueller HEB alongside several restaurant concepts forming a miniature food court. There's an ordering counter with a couple tablets that only take credit cards which is terribly confusing and I suppose is meant to be a remote ordering system to minimize contact with employees. They say you can order online and at the other restaurant fronts on either side as well, and there seemed to be a system for paying cash at the bar in the next room, but there's certainly a learning curve if you haven't done this before. Once you do order successfully however there isn't too much delay picking it up and the food was actually quite good and more affordable than I'd expect. I got myself the chopped brisket sandwich that comes on a toasted bun and you can add BBQ sauce and pickles and onions in the app, all for $6.19. The meat was really excellent, tender and not fatty just like I like it, with a great flavor. It's not a huge portion but a decent size and there are plenty of options to super size it for $4 or choose one of the fancier $10ish sandwiches. I also got myself the blueberry cobbler since I'm a sucker for blueberries and limited time offerings, and that was quite nice too. It was more like pieces of pancake in blueberry pie filling, but it was hot and delicious and a good mix, all for about $3.29, I think. I might try some of their sides or more luxurious sandwiches next time if I'm not on a budget, but this worked well for a meal. I do recommend you only take your food to go, however. The food court only has seating in the bar next door, which is a cramped nightmare. There are about a dozen tables and maybe half the number of stools you need, so you'll likely be forced to stand up at some of the tall tables. Furthermore, this was crowded and chaotic on a Tuesday evening when it shouldn't have been, and I can only imagine how wild it is at peak times. There is some covered outdoor seating too, but this is a bad idea in summer for obvious reasons. So yes, this is a great place for walk-up to-go BBQ and I would enjoy trying it again. I hope to visit another HEB with a roomier version than Mueller and I believe one further south even has a drive-through, but this will do in a pinch.

Red River location recently opened; it has to improve. The first time purchased sandwiches-the buns were hard. 2nd time purchased chicken-bloody and hard meat. Will Third time be the charm, I don't know if I want to chance bad food.

I truly love True Texas BBQ! The prices are always affordable and they don't ever disappoint! I was in the area and stumbled across this location. Inside the HEB they have many different eateries to choose from. It's not like the other locations. I was craving the brisket sandwich and the baked potato with butter and cheese. Everything was fresh and hot! Super delicious and always lives up the hype!

I am gluten and dairy-intolerant. I was hesitant to eat here because their menu lists their brisket low gluten. I talked to their staff and she was beyond helpful explaining to me that the brisket may come in contain with gluten but it is not made directly with gluten. We also discussed my dairy issues to include the BBQ sauces. She told me the sauces are gluten-free but she was not sure about dairy. However, she said that the BBQ sauces if they had dairy products they would need to be in the fridge which they were not. I took a GI distress chance to eat here and I am glad I did. The brisket was solid. You could add pickles, onion, BBQ sauces, and slices of white bread to your order. My husband and I split a 1/2 pound of the fatty brisket. It was well worth the $10 we spent. Be sure to eat in the Main Street H-E-B area so you can grab a drink and people watch.

    Sliced Natural Turkey Sandwich

Sliced Turkey Breast Sandwich, it was surprisingly good! Good smoked flavor and cannot complain about the portion size. Great quick meal for a decent price. I would order it again hoping on consistency in quality and quantity. The service was great, very quick and courteous. The atmosphere was takeout style but they do have the option to dine in a nearby seating area.

The food is amazing. Like Astonishingly amazing. It came fast, cheap, and the whole family enjoyed. Even a picky member of my family loved it here. 5 stars

Dry cold sliced brisket not even warm at all no top bun !

They made 4 mistakes manger told me he will credit me which I was totally ok with. I went for a simple extra lean brisket sandwich when I got home there was no bun on top. Which made it its 5th mistakes. Tho the manger Amber was kind enough to give me a gift card .

The turkey sandwich is excellent. A large has about 5 thick slices of tender meat, bbq sauce, pickles and onions on a round bun and it is delicious. Heavenly. I'm from Los Angeles and bbq restaurants don't do turkey this way here. Try it with mac 'n cheese or creamed corn.

We were planning to try one of each taco but they had already run out of the pulled pork. They wrapped each taco individually in aluminum foil to keep it warm which was a nice touch, though they didn't bring out the red and green sauces until we asked for them. Brisket Taco ($9): The brisket was a bit dry but the slice was pretty thick and it paired well with the acidity of the pickles. Carne G Taco ($6): Super cheesy and heavy. The flavors weren't bad but I felt pretty gross after eating one and it left me really bloated.

When I tell you these ribs were a religious experience I am not embellishing. Full disclosure: I do not currently live in the south so I don't consider myself a BBQ connoisseur, but I did spend 4 years in the south and have sampled many BBQ joints in the meantime. Take this review as someone who really enjoys BBQ (and any slow cooked meat for that matter) but who could not list more than 10 BBQ restaurants they have eaten at in the last 5 years. So the beef ribs. Great texture, tender meat but still had a bite to it. Expertly seasoned so they were not wet with sauce but still moist. I would consider 1 beef rib a snack, 2 a small meal. I also tried the chopped brisket (brisket and burnt ends sitting in a soup of BBQ sauce). That was also delicious (and more reasonably priced), but I could have done with slightly less sauce. It really was like a soup and while the sauce was tasty, there was too much of it. I went later in the afternoon (around 2/2:30pm) and got their last two beef ribs so going earlier is better. You order at the open kitchen and then pay at the counter when your food is ready. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, you can take your food and sit at any of their tables of which they have many (this place is pretty big). You can exchange the default sides for some other options for a little extra charge. It was wonderful to see how generous the portion sizes were, including the sides! The chicken was perfectly friend and breaded in my opinion while keeping the white meat tender -- it was still like that even after I put the leftovers in the air fryer the next day. The baked beans were very flavorful and the sweetness complimented the savory chicken well. The cheer on top moment was the fact that the chicken was seasoned with a spicy seasoning so there was a bit of a subtle spicy aftertaste in each bite! I'll definitely be back again! :)

Dry chicken is already a rough start, but when the place builds its entire identity around fried…read morechicken, it becomes the whole story. The chicken we had was dry enough that the crust felt like the only source of moisture. Flavor-wise, it never really arrived -- just basic chicken, none of that deep, savory, robust profile you expect from a place that claims world‑famous status. It wasn't offensive, just forgettable, which is almost worse for a fried‑chicken joint. Service was fine -- not warm, not cold, just functional. But being out of sweet tea, a southern staple and practically part of the cultural contract of fried chicken, didn't help the mood. And honestly, even if they'd had it, the chicken wasn't good enough for sweet tea to save the experience. Overall, Gus's felt like a place coasting on reputation rather than execution. Dry chicken, muted flavor, and missing sweet tea make it hard to justify a return visit.

For fifteen people, the total cost was $425.69. This included delivery costs and taxes, but no tip. It consisted of three meats, two sides, and a dessert along with pickles, onions, bread, and BBQ sauce. There was also a set of utensils delivered, but plates were forgotten, but not a big deal. Brisket - This was definitely the best item eaten of the day. It was tender and juicy while adding the BBQ sauce giving that extra bite. The BBQ sauce was great regardless, a little bit of sweet and smoky flavor going on. Pulled Pork - This was another solid meat choice. I did not think it was as tender as the brisket, but it was still enjoyable especially with that BBQ sauce, which was key throughout the meal. Sausage - This was not bad. The snap on this threw me off a little, but it was not too bad. They were large links and had plenty of flavor. Gouda Mac & Cheese with Smoked Bacon - This was actually penne pasta with little pieces of the bacon. I actually preferred this pasta choice here. It really soaked up the cheese sauce. The sauce was not too over powerful and was just right. Beans with Smoked Bacon - These were not too bad. I thought they were a little liquidity, but the added bacon pieces definitely helped. Banana Pudding - This came in individual cups, which was nice. The pudding was thick with a little meringue or whipped cream present and a few wafer cookies on top. It was a satisfying ending to a very good meal. Will I go back? Yes.
