Barckground: When it comes to fitness, I've done it all....I've done the traditional gym route... free weights, and loooots of cardio. Heck, I've even been a personal trainer before. I've done the home workout thing... p90X, barre workouts, good stuff. I've even done CrossFit... loved it. Whereas I've enjoyed many aspects of all the aforementioned types of exercise, I've never done type of exercise that I like so well as I do Pilates, and more particularly Pilates at Studio G. Studio G specializes in classical Pilates in individual or small group setting. Genevieve, and her team have done a phenomenal job of creating a warm and welcoming vibe in the Studio where people of all fitness levels feel at home. I find it sad that one often encounters a snobby attitude towards out-of-shape people at gyms and fitness studios. Trust me, you will not encounter that type of attitude here. Positive vibes only!! If you're looking to get back in shape, like I was, or, if you're an exercise fiend and you'd like to take your workouts to the next level, I assure you, Studio G has you covered! Pilates is very scalable to practically all level of fitness. All of the instructors are highly skilled and each bring their own unique strengths and personalities to the workouts. I've been a regular of Genevieve and Ryan for quite some time and thoroughly enjoy my workouts with each of them. I highly recommend either of them!! I've also had a couple of workouts with Tish and recommend her as well. She knows her stuff!! Both of the Studio G facilities are amazing. I love the 29th Court S location for group exercise. It's such a beautiful space with tall ceilings and large mirrors. The main studio on Oxmoor Rd is a wonderful space too. There's a nice front room with a couch an ottomans to sit on while you wait for your lesson and 3 separate rooms with various types of Pilates equipment. There's also a dedicated room for active isolated stretching and myofascial release...another great offering from the Studio! As a client, I appreciate that all of the instructors are required to pass a very rigorous and lengthy training course before they can instruct at Studio G. The level of training really translates into great workouts for the client. The instructors are very adept at diagnosing how the client can improve their form etc for maximum benefit. You really get your money's worth. In addition to the initial training, the instructors often attend seminars to hone their expertise and expand their knowledge base. I also love the focus of the mind body connection in Pilates. It's easy to get caught up in the chaos of our fast paced lives. Pilates is a great way to disconnect from the stressful state so many of us live in, reconnect with our bodies, and renew our minds. Pilates requires intense concentration to properly execute the movements from our center (core) with control, precision, and flow, all while incorporating deep breathing to power and fuel the movement. To me, Pilates is in an exercise league of its own - An exercise program that focuses on mind, body and spirit, that's capable of meeting the beginner no matter where their starting point is, but also very capable of challenging even the fittest amount us. I couldn't more highly recommend Pilates at Studio G!

All the ladies that work at this studio are super nice and helpful! They are on the second floor of The Battery. You walk in and you can place your stuff in the cubby holes and change shoes/into sticky socks. You initial your name at the front desk, and they also have a mini-storefront with things like clothing and accessories. The studio is impeccably clean! You have weights, straps, TRX straps, balls, the coolest foldable yoga mats, and these little round foot pads that they use to work out in. I have been to a couple of classes including their Fusion and Express (shorter) classes. The first class was challenging to me, but later on I really enjoyed these classes. They usually offer several morning classes from about 5am-8am, a noon class, and the afternoon classes are usually from 3pm-6pm. I usually pick the noon or early afternoon classes cause I'm just not a morning person lol. They also provide such an uplifting environment! I always feel so great after class and look forward to it so much.

Pure Barre in Homewood is my go to spot and I like how it's very cutesy, very mindful, very demure :) The instructors make sure to learn your name before class and do a great job at helping you adjust your form to get the intended impact of each move. They're also good and shouting people out throughout class to help keep us motivated. I've tired both the classic class and define classes. The classics kick my butt the most but define isn't far behind. I like how each class is different and helps you get stronger in different ways. I honestly hate the idea of sweating and intentionally being in pain, so I motivate myself with cute outfits and post workout treats, like a smoothie from Farm Bowl. I feel like I get my money's worth every single workout and I can feel myself getting stronger each time. I can now hold a 30 second plank and use the weights much more easily, but it took awhile and I still have plenty of room to grow. Bonus points for the friendly, girl power environment!

I cannot say enough on how satisfied I am for making this choice. Apart from the exercise itself which is hard at the beginning but as you keep on going it gets better, I cannot say also enough about how welcoming this place is and how encouraging the trainers are to all attendees no matter the fitness level. The manager of the place, Anita, has been awesome in making me feel welcomed, explaining me the technique of each move, correcting me while exercising and encouraging me to continue. The same goes for all trainers! When I expressed interests in joining Pure Barre Anita immediately responded to my enquiry and provided me with all the information and options for me. Her level of professionalism was the reason I trusted going to this specific studio and I wasn't wrong. I love this place, the trainers, and Pure Barre although makes me shaking is slowly becoming part of my everyday life. I recommend this place 100% to anyone who is looking for a way to be in shape in a highly professional, relaxed and welcoming environment.
