Fortunately we had an electronic tire pump, so we were able to get to a tire place. I picked Gary's based on reviews and location. I was beyond impressed! They were friendly as heck and had our car in and out in about 25 minutes. We just took the dogs and walked over to a nearby coffee shop and had some coffee. We walked back and the car was done! And it was a good job--we went on to check out many places from Evergreen State to Point Defiance in Tacoma, feeling safe and secure the whole time. We are back home and all is dandy. I took my car and got a quote for $250 to $500, a week later it was $700, and by the time it was done two weeks later I was told it was 2K for replacing an alternator and fixing an electrical problem that the dealer never found before. But, since the vehicle's catalytic converter was stolen last year, I thought maybe they pulled some wires out of place. $700 made sense, but $2k is an absurd amount. I was able to talk them down to $1,500. I should have gone back to the dealer and saved myself a couple of hundred bucks. What makes me sad is that this is my neighborhood shop, and I was looking forward to having a mechanic near my home for all my cars, tractor and boat, but it was an expensive lesson. Live and learn.

Can you believe that? What a deal! Anyway I showed up first thing in the morning and they were already at work. I sat in the waiting room and they let us have the remote so we can pick whatever show we felt like and time went fast because I was only there for 30 minutes. While we were waiting I enjoyed the coffee from their Keurig. I handed the guy my punchcard and they marked off two oil changes, since they had given me full synthetic. I didn't know the difference and the guy who checked me in was a mechanic and not the regular office guy, so that's where the mistake was. That's okay though, lesson learned- make sure to ask for the synthetic blend. The punchcard lasts for two years, so I'm gonna get one for each of my cars because who can beat that deal?

The labor rates are reasonable and they take the time to explain, and show you the issue. They're HONEST, and are not going to sell you a bunch of extra services you don't need, and they actually care about the work they do. I can tell you these things with the utmost confidence. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I am mechanically inclined and can do some repairs myself. The hours of labor they quoted for the the repair were done by the actual amount of time it took them to do the job. Pricing for the parts were normal, but also, the quality of those parts were obvious. They were not some cheap junk, and there wasn't a huge markup like you're going to find with someone else.They have integrity, and that is a very rare trait in the automotive industry these days. I called around to several auto body shops in the Tacoma area, but all of them were either unwilling to take on that level of damage or also classified it as a total loss. My insurance wouldn't cover the repairs, so I was stuck paying out of pocket. I was nearly ready to scrap the car and buy a used one, until I found Matsenko Auto. I spoke with Mike, who was very friendly and provided updates throughout the entire process. After explaining the situation, they took my car in without hesitation.
