In terms of unique offerings and my interaction with the owner, 5*s!…read more According to a TO Star article on this plaza, the owner is Palestinian and the Arabic ice cream, cheeses, labneh, ghee, feta are all made in-house. Storefront isn't that big. I thought that I'd be intimidated because I have no knowledge of their products, but owner explained everything well. For example, labneh is a strained yogurt that's similar to cream cheese, but it isn't cream cheese. He also explained the difference between his ghee and desi ghee. Ghee had a nice scent and wasn't as pungent as Indian ghee. You can tell that the owner has a background in food science. They were also serving ice cream as well when I went in, so after we chatted, I decided to get Black Cherry. Mmm...natural, creamy, and no hint of that fakey-ness that normally accompanies anything Cherry-flavoured! 1 pint of pistachio ice cream was $10, larger pint was $20. So although it isn't cheap, it tastes waaay better - and less sweet - than the stuff that you get from the grocery store. Too bad that he shut down the soft serve 'cause I would've tried that instead. If you have any interest in Arabic dairy products, don't feel intimidated and check this place out!

Futura Granita and Gelato located along St. Clair West near Oakwood Ave serves up delicious…read moregranita, gelato, freeze pops, as well as espresso baked drinks. This place has been on my go to list for a few years now, however, the location and opening hours make it more difficult for me to make the trip there. I finally had the chance to try Futura as I rsvp-ed for their first ever granita morning (did you know...granita for breakfast is a Sicilian/Southern Italy tradition?!). The store is primarily take out only although they do have some bar seats (and some stools) indoors. They also have a small standing bar outside if you want to enjoy your treats outside. I am sure the place gets busy as they only open from Thurs to Sun, during the evening/night times. Making my way to Futura Granita and Gelato, I was excited to see what flavours they would have for the granita breakfast. I arrived around 8:45am where there were already customers inside and outside enjoying their treats, however, it was still pretty quiet. I stepped inside and immediately became overwhelmed by the flavour choices (Tito Toronto was also there selling their baked pastries that day as well so I was doubly overwhelmed!). I opted to get a piccolo size (2 flavours) and chose 2 granita flavours of my choice (lemon and coffee). I decided to also get a brioche as well. Asked to eat my granita breakfast there and it was prepared quickly. Enjoyed my treats at the bar inside. The warm brioche was a great touch as I dipped it into the cold icy granita. A lovely combination where the lemon flavour also was really tart and sour! Service wise, staff were friendly and efficient. I can tell that some customers there already were regulars where the owners were quite friendly and talkative with them. Overall, a great place for granita that I'm already thinking about when I can return to try more flavours. Such a delicious treat on a summer day!

I got the blueberry one and there were real blueberries in it, so I felt like at least I was getting some of my daily quotent of fruits with my popsicle. Definitely worth checking out this summer if you are walking by Bloor street - it's part of the weird pop-up market thing outside the Club Monaco.

There were no customers when I came. The place was small but clean and looked cozy. I saw a big variety of pastry and breads in the display case. I ordered "for here" a small coffee (Copenhagen drip blend) and a Danish butterhorn bread pudding. There were 2 baristas. I spoke to them briefly - they were polite. I asked barista about this pastry, she said that it was popular and not sweet - this is what I wanted. I took my order to the table and was sitting on a bar stool, but baristas paid no attention to me. Taste of coffee was OK, but served in a carton cup (they don't have ceramic mugs). My pastry was so cold that the taste was ruined. I left the place disappointed.
