This was the haul

Dropped in at 745pm for the end of day 50% off sale. Picked up a Viking Danish, a custard-chocolate (maybe almond paste) roll, an apple and custard slice, a custard raspberry tart, a raspberry filled croissant, a Havarti cheese croissant. Those were all subject to the EOD sale. Then I picked up cookies: 2 large Greta Garbos, a small heart-shaped shortbread filled with raspberry, and a gingerbread man. All this was approx 28.00. I am taking off a star because the cashier did not give me a receipt for the total. I have no idea what was charged for what. How would that make you feel?

Cinnamon bun

I've been craving a cinnamon bun, so I jumped on the chance to get one when I happened to walked by a whole case full of them at the 2nd floor Fairview location of the Danish Pastry House. We also grabbed a Viking Slice to go. Warming it up the next day for a couple minutes brought the pastries back to life. The cinnamon bun had a cinnamon bready crust exterior with a softer spongey inner swirl, with only a slight sweetness from the icing drizzle. The Viking Slice was the complete opposite. A super buttery and flakey pastry, hiding an almond filling and covered with a chocolate layer on one side. It is sweet, indulgent and very satisfying. Each pastry is around $3-4, so it is definitely meant less as an everyday staple and more as a treat! Perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.

Chocolate croissant

Delicious buttery pastries! So excited to finally get to try their pastries. Got the Viking, pastry with apricot jam, the snail, and a chocolate croissant. My favourites were the Viking, pastry with apricot jam, and the snail. The chocolate croissant was too dense and chewy. All the other pastries were lighter and some had a thin layer of chocolate which reminded me of the thin slices of chocolate that is put on bread aka Pålægschokolade. The lineup moved fast but it was hard to see prices and selection until you see the pastries up front. It would speed things up if they had a menu on the wall so that people can decide what to get. I only saw that they had flødeboller when I was walking to check out. I would have loved to order one.

What a gem! We were looking for breakfast after the Foo Fighters concert in Toronto and found this…read moreplace on Yelp. It's right down the block from The Rivoli (IYKYK). When you walk in the door, if the case full of French-patisserie-class pastries, scones and things that you've never seen but you know on an existential level they are going to be amazing doesn't get your attention, then the massive crystal chandelier will. Okay, if you're not impressed by those, then how about the glass wall behind which a baker is preparing something that requires a massive amount of butter (there had to be 20 to 25 pounds sitting there)? The place is small and adorable. The staff is friendly, the coffee is fresh ground and brewed, and while a lot of people glide in, purchase, and leave there is some seating along the front wall. A great spot to get a scone, a coffee or tea, and watch Toronto go by. Marvelous indeed!

walking toward chinatown, this little french pâtisserie on the corner of queen st west and mccaul…read morecaught my eye. the black and white decor, french lettering and, most of all, that absolutely gorgeous chandelier were enough to pull me inside. the enormous crystal chandelier is almost theatrical, with layers of sparkling drops and ornate gold toned arms hanging in the centre of the store, over the pastry counter. between the marble like counters, glass display cases and big front windows looking out onto queen street, the whole space has a polished, old world french pâtisserie feel. no matcha here, so i switched things up with an oat milk latte instead, which was actually a nice change of pace. for the pastry, i went with the chocolate almond croissant. it looked every bit as tempting as the setting, with icing sugar and topped with a generous scattering of slivered almonds. after finding a table, i could also see an artisan baker working behind the glass, making what looked like raisin scones, which added a nice sense of theatre to the experience. aux merveilleux de fred is a french artisan pâtisserie known for its signature merveilleux, along with cramiques, waffles, meringues and viennoiseries, with the pastries made on site using traditional methods. texture wise, though, this one didn't quite hit the mark for me. there wasn't much lamination, and it lacked the crisp, flaky exterior i look for in a really good croissant. the slivered almonds also weren't toasted enough to give that extra nutty crunch. on the plus side, the chocolate and almond filling was generous, so there was no shortage of flavour in the middle. it just needed more of that buttery, layered pastry texture and a little more toasted almond flavour to really bring everything together. there was no cutlery provided, so this was very much a pastry you eat with your hands situation. fortunately, the icing sugar and filling were manageable with a few big bites and some paper napkins . sometimes you just have to commit. overall, this is a beautiful little stop on queen street west, especially if you're drawn in by aesthetic pâtisseries and elaborate interiors. the chandelier alone is worth looking up from the pastry case for, and being able to watch the bakers working behind the glass adds to the charm. i enjoyed the generous chocolate and almond filling, but for me, the croissant needed more layers, more crispness and more toasted almond flavour to make it truly memorable.

My wife wanted to go there so we went on 2023-01-31 mid-morning when there would more selection…read more They definitely have quite a selection of pastries and savoury food. My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. There is free street parking on their one-way south-bound street. Review 2023-017

Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
