I come to this location at least twice a week, and it's a hit every time. The atmosphere is great, the vibe is fun, and my food is always made very well. The two usual ladies in the morning are the sweetest girls; we always spend a few minutes talking and I've seen them treat other customers really really well. I've had no issues with any employees when I come in but those two are definitely my favorite of the bunch, which is why I prefer coming in the mornings. I usually get an acai berry boost with whey and chia seeds, and it's always well blended and delicious and thick. My husband and and I comes here all the time. But this time we came and my smoothie wasn't sweet. So in the past when I have had a smoothie here and it wasn't sweet, I would bring it back in for them to sweeten it. We'll today, the young lady was training she did well. However when I brought my smoothie back the lady in this picture begin to tell me I was speaking rough to her employee. So I asked her name she wouldn't give it to me. Ahhh haven't been to a tropical smoothie in forever. Had to stop in since I was on the start of my road trip and I had already ate all of my home cooked healthy items..yes I love to eat. Anyways I walked in and took a look at the menu to see they have added items like shrimp, sweet potato chunks and possibly a few other things. I ordered the shrimp Cajun wrap and a detox green smoothie. The cashier was really shy and didn't look up at me but he seems very sweet. Received my smoothie first and it was alright. Some reason I couldn't really taste the ingredients. It was almost like it was watered down. Very strange. I remembered it being more tasty. The wrap was pretty good. I asked for no onions but they were still in there. They have to be careful with things like that because people do have allergies and I am one of those folks that do..so make sure to pay attention because thankfully it's not an epi pen episode. Side bar, I went to use the restroom and one of the employees was cleaning the women's, so she told me to go in the mens...:no problem..:until I walk in and it NASTY! Hair and pee all over the seat, toilet paper was almost empty....yuck. The men's bathroom needs some attention. All in all it was a subpar visit. I had to suddenly cancel a pick order emu car wouldn't start. I called the store and the manager was really nice. She offered to refund me or credit me for another day. I chose the later. We've had great experiences at Tropical Smoothies in other locations and even at this one when dining at the restaurant. However, when ordering through DoorDash they can't get it right. After many bad experiences with this location, we finally decided it is time to say something. This was ordered through DoorDash, but this order was prepared by the staff at this location not DoorDash. While we are only focusing on this most recent order, the issues has been building over time and we have reached our frustration threshold. Today's order, the portion size of the bowls and wrap we ordered wouldn't even qualify as a kids portion or appetizer. The chips that were ordered as sides were missing. The items had been crammed into a bag and smashed. If this were the only incident, we would have just assumed it was an off day and let it go. We would welcome a discussion with the owner or district manager of this location. Problems happen all the time, but how they are dealt with is what counts. We have reported a few of most recent issues to the store, nothing has changed. It doesn't seem like anyone at the store cares. The attached photos don't adequately convey, how small the portions or smashed the items were. We most likely will not be ordering from this location for awhile. They need time to change. read more

I'm a huge fan of tropical smoothie and this location is right in my backyard. I come here frequently. I usually will order through the app and pick it up. The last 3-4 times I've been there when I come in I wait in the designated pick up section, I watch the employees move back and forth chit chat with each other all while never acknowledging my presence. Today I left your store around 1:08 pm I wore grey sweat pants and a white t-shirt with gold writing. If you have time please rewind your tapes and watch as I come in wait in the pick up area patiently while no one greats me says they'll be right with me or even offers me a half smile. The icing on the cake for today's visit your team has a small huddle right in the middle of the floor and after it finally dawns on a young lady like o are you waiting? Interestingly enough my order was already complete so if someone would've had the decency to greet me in the beginning I could be on my way and they could've gotten back to what they were doing. Please with your staff on this. I do want to see my smoothie(sunrise sunset) and sandwich(turkey bacon ranch) was on point as usually. I do appreciate that. read more

Waited almost 40 minutes for two smoothies. I watched every single customer that went in after my get their orders before him. Sitting in the car with my toddler thinking it wouldn't take long, I had to end up dragging him into the store to find out what the hell was going on! This place needs to get shut down. I just picked up an online order from the la plata location and am highly disturbed by the music allowed to play. First of all, the music was BLARING like I was buying my lunch from a night club. Second, the music was disgusting with explicit language. For example, the song I got to enjoy was singing "F*ck you right to sleep girl" by Chris Brown. How is this acceptable??!! How do you have employees that think this is ok?? I've been coming to this location for years and it used to be so enjoyable, they'd play tropical music or top 40. I've had issues ever since they added the option to add a tip while ordering on the app. I never tip BEFORE service anywhere that I go because it doesn't make sense to me (I'm aware some people call this being cheap, but corporations should just pay their employees more). I tip AFTER service, and very generously too. I always order a hummus veggie wrap & chia banana smoothie w/ peanut butter. I didn't tip about 3 weeks ago and my wrap tasted like they added a spoonful or two of salt. My friend went last week, tipped and her food (ordered the same thing as I) was perfect. I went today and didn't tip, and again my food and smoothie both tasted weird. Not as salty, but definitely off. The wrap was very sloppy and the tortilla was hard around the edges. I frequent Tropical Smoothie & order the same exact thing, so I know exactly how it should taste. I held off on making this review to make sure I wanted to really give them 1 star, and I do want to give it such a poor rating. The service was awful and our smoothies weren't even the right ones. We were so annoyed about it we just left. While we were in this location there was 3 workers and only 1 was doing something. It took us almost 15 minutes to get our smoothies, well not our smoothies, someone else's apparently. The parking lot is super tiny and there are several places next door that were busy. DISGUSTING, several of my friends worked there and quit because it was so gross. Poor teenagers working there that have not been trained about food hygiene. Hair in food, those cooking your food touch their hair or the mop/broom, cash with the gloves on, and then your food!!! Without changing gloves or washing their hands!!! So nasty. I emailed HQ and complained in hopes they would come in and change the cleanliness of it, but they just directed me to the La Plata manager who emailed back and said, "no we don't do that" ??? Food was great as well as the smoothies. Impressed as a first time customer. However the staff lacks professionalism and efficiency. Updated review 5/24/20- ordered food and smoothies. They gave cold food that I still had to some how wait for after being told it wasn't ready yet. Found hair in one of my food items. Was told one of the ingredients from a sandwich was not available, but that it could be replaced and I agreed. Got home and they gave me an entirely different sandwich. My husband had to go in again because they forgot more items. I can no longer give anymore chances to this location. They have yet to improve their shortcomings. read more

I love Tropical Smoothie! I have overlooked this business for years until earlier this month. I have been visiting the LaPlata, MD location a couple times a week, every week in the month of May 2022. Each and every-time the customer service has been excellent! My order had been made quickly and most importantly CORRECTLY! I am greeted nicely upon coming in the door each time I visit. It's easy to rack up on the rewards points and earn cash off of your next meal. Today I was even gifted a cookie by the owner Jacob. I just received very poor customer service at this location. The night shift staff seems to be needing some adjustments. I walked in there, one girl was kind enough to hold the door for me and greet me on her way out. However, I came up to the register and none of the two other workers are ready to take my order. They seem to be busy with their own work so I waited...the employee nearest the register says the other employee will help me so I waited some more. They seemed to be pushing the task to each other. Eventually she came up very unwillingly to take my order. I was the only one in the store at that time so it's not like they were busy with other customers. Then for about 5 minutes no one made my smoothie lol just continued to do their own thing. Finally I received it about 10 minutes later, long enough for the other employee earlier to grab chickfila and come back. There was not a word of apology or a thank you. Ultimately, I ordered a smoothie called Sunshine which has pineapples and oranges in it, but drinking it on my way back I could taste ginger. Wow. I have never had an item that I didn't enjoy! Some of my favorite smoothies are the Açaí berry, avocolada, detox island green. Full of flavor and fresh ingredients. They even cover up the taste of kale and spinach so well. The food is delicious as well! I love the hummus veggie wrap and I recently tried one of the quesadillas. I am giving this two stars; however I will give it another try with changes I will make. I got a blueberry (or something like that). It was strawberries, banana and blueberry. I added kale. It came in a large cup; but really had very little taste. When I first got it, I was surprised seeing no hint of the green kale. I tasted blueberries and the occasional pith/seed which is numerous when I make mine. I think there was too much ice used which drowned out the taste. After it was melted, there was light purplish water. I will try it again, but request only a handful of ice. I want to taste all of my fruit. Also, with the right ratio you can taste or drown out the kale. I think this may kick up a four or even five star. I will only get half the drink, but I'm not there for the ice. read more

Associate by the name of jaden was extremely rude, we waited 30 minutes for a smoothie and received no apology for the wait, the smoothie sat in the blender and no one checked on us, once jaden realized this she started to give us the smoothie that sat in the blender and slid the cups to us with loose tops.
