1/5 I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this location. The customer service was the biggest issue. Going through the drive-thru, I was asked to practically yell my order from my car because the employee couldn't hear me. Instead of addressing the issue professionally, the interaction felt rude and unnecessarily frustrating. Had the customer service been better, I probably would have given more grace regarding the food. Unfortunately, the food itself was also underwhelming and didn't seem as fresh or well-prepared as I expected. The most frustrating part is that I drove a considerable distance to visit this location. If I hadn't already made the trip, I likely would have left without ordering. Between the poor customer service and disappointing food quality, I left feeling like I wasted both my time and money. I've had better experiences at other Tropical Grille locations, particularly the Haywood Road location. Based on this visit, I can't recommend this location and hope management takes steps to improve both customer service and food quality. read more

Fast casual restaurant that's around the corner from the local gym - works well for a post-workout healthy meal. They are willing to sub out rice for cauliflower rice so the menu can be adapted for those who prefer low carb or keto options although the food erred on the salty side and my shrimp bowl had a surprising amount of oil. On Friday, 8/15 possibly between 730 and eight at night. My daughter and I went there to get some food and I eat there at least once a week. We waited in line for over 15 minutes to get our food and when we got it..... it was disgusting. I live 3 1/2 miles from there and she had a shrimp bowl which tasted and looked like mush and I had a steak sandwich that I had to pull to eat between soggy bread. The only thing that was good were the plantains and the Yucca fries were just OK. We added the green spicy jalapeño sauce to her food because there was zero taste even with that on there it was just a little spicy that's it. Makes me sad to say this because I've eaten there so many times, but the people that were working that night did not care . I even made mention of it to the girl at the window about why it took so long, because they weren't even busy and she pretty much said oh I didn't notice. The front of the house staff was too busy taking care of the drive thru to bother to help us "dine in". Extremely rude and unwelcoming. Additionally, the restaurant was extremely hot. I'm not sure what happened to this place, but we ordered the family meal and the chicken was different. It used to be grilled chicken, but this was like a marinated chicken almost like you'd get from a Chinese restaurant. It's really salty and just not good. Today is Monday, May 8, 2023, we had a run errands this morning, and we were looking for a healthy alternative for lunch, I had never eaten at tropical Grill, because I thought it was a smoothie place, but my wife educated me that it was a healthy alternative to good eating. I got the classic bowl with chicken, yellow rice, corn, tomatoes, and it was delicious. My wife got the southwest bowl and hers was equally as good. We will make this a regular stop when we are out and about instead of eating burgers or something else that doesn't appeal to us to be a healthy option. So for the food portion is definitely a 5. Super delicious and most the staff here is friendly and seems happy to be there. I put a 2 down because of the head managers attitude. We were waiting by the side for our food and talking with his staff since we come in here a lot. And someone made a joke about the Togo boxes saying we are cool with those because they can put more food. The staff laughed but the manager, zack, walked by and rudely said it's the same amount of food, and make mean face and rolled his eyes and then kept making faces while he walked to the register like he was offended that we were even joking. We were clearly joking with his staff as we already paid and were just waiting for our food. He was also not polite when he was ringing us up and had an attitude then. When we asked who he was, they said the head manager which made his behavior even more inappropriate for a head manager. For this they get a 2. Price is cheap. Parking is terrible. There's not a lot and during rush hour it's limited. Food is delicious. I like to get the classic or the picadillo special, which are both delicious. They also have lots of sauces on the table. They got my takeout order wrong yet again. What do you do when your favorite takeout place gets your order wrong? I'm not talking about major mistakes such as the wrong entree, but rather smaller ones that make your meal somewhat less enjoyable but not to the point where you can't eat it. Today's visit was missing the Yucca fries ($3.99) that I ordered impulsively. I do not always order from this restaurant for this reason, but sometimes I get a craving and usually (according to my own statistics), the odds are not in my favor that my order will be correct at this location. Hi, I'd like to introduce myself as TG's #1 fan! THIS PLACE! I'M TELLING YOUUUU- does NOT disappoint. I discovered it 2 weeks ago Via my Fiancé and he has created a monster. I eat it 3+ times a week. It's perfect. It does not need a sauce although it had delicious sauces to add such as the garlic cilantro sauce. You can add so many things as well to your dish. The staff is always SO friendly. I've never been sent away without silverware and 20+ napkins. My chicken is always juicy. My husband and I eat here often, take-out is quick and dine-in has re-opened (workers wearing face masks). The drive through line is always packed, but it moved quickly. Our favorite menu items are the Cuban roasted pork bowls and my daughter gets the classic chicken with yellow rice every time, which she enjoys thoroughly. (My father is Colombian, so she feels as if she's discovered the 'special' hispanic rice that he cooks, haha) The plantains are delicious, sweet, and ripe as they should be. If I had any complaints, it's that the drinks options for the kids meals are limited. The juice is actually capri sun, and there's not any other drinks to choose from other than soda. Had my first bad experience with this tropical grill. Bought a Delux classic chicken bowl to go at 6:30pm on 10/09/2019. Meal is my favorite but not today. Lettuce was spoiled and tasted bad. Disappointed. May not go again. My guess. They did not clean the lettuce serving bin or they kept replenishment on top layer and never replaced with new when they got to my serving. No one should experience the bad taste of spoiled lettuce. It is a taste you will never forget. Good help in the restaurant business is extremely important. Experience even more. 1st visit to this location on a Saturday. As you can imagine with a new spot in Mauldin it's quite busy without a moments rest. Noise level is lose rate in dining area yet noticed that the employees have to yell REALLY loud for patrons to pick up their order by the number called. Music is upbeat and the place has an industro Sheek look. New label in decor ha!. Nice clean lines with pops of color to break up the monotones of all the brick. I remember this place as All Occassions Celebration some 8 years ago and actually held the first event schedule way back when. Total remodel job from the steps to the bathrooms. Love that they kept the brick walls and the school bus yellow chairs and stools work well. As for the food. Fresh and consistent with the other locations. Hated the flan wasn't homemade so I chose to skip it. Nothing beats homemade! Order the Palomilla bowl (#10), chicken Caesar wrap (#18), and the roasted pork wrap (#19). All entrees were fresh and made to order. I had hoped that the wraps were warmed as the cold pita bread took away from the experience and broke making eating the wrap a tad challenging. The cilantro sauce is a must and really enhances the flavors of the meat. Trust me, it goes with everything even the plantains! In regards to the number of customers I would have recommended more than one bathroom per gender. If you gotta go go gotta wait. One bathroom!! Ugh! Nice to have at least two stalls per gender with the number of patrons visiting. Yet based on the footprint maybe one upstairs? I didn't venture upstairs so there may possibly be one up there. Overall a nice dining experience. Nothing to wow about but will return. The staff is very pleasant and accommodate the customer needs. A nice stop to meet friends or simply hang out enjoying a nice lunch. Great for trendies, college kids, families and more. The open floor concept really allows you to sit back and relax without feeling boxed in. Lots of natural light. Parking has and will always be an issue at the location yet additional paved parking was added in the back. Can't sit back and enjoy your meal then drive thru services are for you.
