I hadn't been to Tropical Chinese in years and decided to take my son for a nice lunch. We arrived at noon on a Saturday (he had to be at work by 3 PM), and the restaurant was already filling up quickly. The staff was very courteous, and everything was clean and well maintained. The dim sum was just as good as I remembered--an impressive selection, with carts rolling out as soon as we sat down. The dumplings were delicious, and the BBQ pork buns were a standout. There was also a crab and shrimp dumpling shaped like a crab leg that I absolutely loved. Our favorite, though, was the orange beef--perfectly tender and incredibly flavorful. So glad to see that Tropical Chinese is just as amazing as always. It's been a few years since I've made it down this far south, and they're still serving up some of the best Chinese food in South Florida. The food was simply delicious. We got a bunch of old favorites like the mapo tofu and salt and pepper tofu, along with an assortment of dim sum (from the kitchen instead of the carts, since it was dinner service). We also tried a few new items, including the Singapore noodles and the chicken with fresh vegetables. Both were outstanding. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong here. Every dish is so flavorful and unique, and all elements are cooked perfectly. I wish my photos did a better job of showing how good everything is, but we literally couldn't help digging in immediately before I remembered my camera. Of course, they were busy as usual. I'll start by saying it's been a long time since my last visit. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is really nice... on this visit decorated for the upcoming Chinese New Year. Tuesday lunch. We got there early just about when they opened. We were 1 of 2 customers. Right away the dim sum cart got rolling. Even before our waters arriv ed. We were craving lo mein but it took forever to get one of the many workers (outnumbering customers 2 to 1), to actually come to our table. It actually got funny. We waving our arms to get attention. All we wanted was to get some lo mein and tea. But rolling dim sum carts kept on rolling and those servers clueless. Ugh. Once you walk in you get transported to China with their Asian inspired decor. Once seated you'll get a paper to count what you get and then you'll see the staff all pushing carts full of dumplings, bao buns and eggrolls which they stop and drop off almost as fast as you sit down. We used to come to Tropical every week for dim sum but it got expensive and we took a hiatus. We came today to celebrate my nephew's art, which was featured today at Pinecrest Gardens. He wanted dim sum for lunch so here are. Lol as soon as you walk in you see the carts full of dim sum going around the restaurant. My friend was celebrating her birthday that day, and it was a little chaotic because of the amount of people she had invited, but The restaurant handled it well! This place truly is a not so hidden gem in a random strip mall, because if you grew up in Miami like I did, Tropical Chinese, is very well-known for Chinese food that sparkles. From the moment you walk in the decor makes you forget that you're in Westchester. It's cute and modern with the colorful blossom lanterns, and the fun modern wallpaper. Went with an open mind to try dim sum. Which we had no idea what was happening and were never asked if it was our first time. We even asked a waitress to explain how it works, she turned around and was never to be seen again. Eventually we figured it out. Carts come, you say yay or nay to taking what is on the carts (which quickly adds up), it's tallied on the sheet and then you feast. A lot of sushi items and even though we asked for dumplings, that cart never came around. You can also order from the regular menu. Inside is very nice. Came to tropical Chinese for an early Saturday dinner and was seated right away. It was pretty crowded for an early dinner. Our main server was kind of short with us. He seemed to be very polite with other tables but for some reason wasn't very kind or attentive to us. We flagged him down with a question about the duck and he answered very annoyed. For starters we ordered the scallion pancakes, shrimp roll, and pork buns. Everything came out super hot so we knew it was just made. Really liked the sauce the shrimp rolls came with. First Dim Sum experience and I honestly can't believe I've never heard of this place before. A Miami staple for 38 years, and clearly it's been around this long for a reason! I love me some good Chinese, but let's be real, Miami lacks options when it comes to quality, great tasting Chinese cuisine. Our server, Jenny, she was funny, attentive, and really made our experience special in every sense. She had great recommendations, and made sure we had everything we needed all night. The place was packed on a Sunday night, so I do suggest if you're coming on a weekend to check in early enough so you don't have to wait too long. The ambiance was surprisingly very aesthetically pleasing. From the outside looking in you wouldn't think it'd be such a cool place. Miami is living up to its reputation of unremarkable Chinese food, and unfortunately Tropical Chinese Restaurant is part of it for me. This is a very busy restaurant so I was hopeful when I walked in, but unfortunately the food was lacking. It took a long time for us to get cutlery, plates, water, and to get our orders taken, which is understandable given the bustling crowds, but most of our food came out suspiciously fast and did not feel that fresh later in the evening. The prices were also astonishing, $20 for vegetables? But I guess that's Miami for you. First things that came to our table were the duck lettuce wrap and hot and sour soup. The lettuce wrap came with extra hoisin sauce but it was already quite salty so I was confused. There was also no discernible duck as the filling was finely and uniformly minced. Flavor was alright though. The hot and sour soup was confusing, I have never tasted so much five spice (?) in this soup. It also tasted like they used white vinegar or something similar instead of Chinese black vinegar, as the sourness was very sharp. Next, our dim sum, bok choy, and green beans arrived. The green beans were bland and needed more garlic. They were also mushy and not properly fried. The bok choy was just bok choy, maybe lightly seasoned with chicken boullion and salt. The chicken feet were tender but not too flavorful. The har gow wrappers were mushy instead of bouncy. The shrimp siu mai wrappers were good though, and had plump chunks of shrimp inside instead of only a paste. I wish that each table came with some chili oil or something, I was surprised to see there was none. The last thing to come out was yang chow fried rice. We got this because they were out of chow fun, and it definitely saved this trip. It came out a fair bit later than everything else and was definitely made to order. The rice was not too greasy and there was a good amount of shrimp and pork. Very flavorful and satisfying! Overall I would not return to Tropical Chinese Restaurant. I think they are doing a perfectly good job serving what their audience wants to eat, as evidenced by their busy busy restaurant. But as someone who is 1. Literally Chinese and 2. Has lived in areas with amazing Chinese food all my life, I am not that audience. read more

I'm not a Chinese food expert , I've eaten some Chinese in places like NYC and NJ. I've always wanted to try Tropical Chinese out because of the proximity to where I live. I really enjoyed the overall ambience and the place was packed on a Saturday night. I liked the energy and they have these big windows where you can see into the kitchen. The waitress was attentive and the restaurant was clean. I enjoyed the shrimp dumplings , and everything else we ordered. I did not care for the roasted pork steamed buns tho. You must try their dim sum which at lunchtime they come around in the traditional carts. A fair warning they do push a lot of food to you.
