Where did supply and demand go wrong? I flew back home into SFO and needed a simple paper clip to change out my SIM card from traveling abroad. A cheerful sales clerk greeted me. "Can I borrow a paper clip?", I asked. Her cheerful tone quickly changed with, "Sorry, we don't lend out paper clips. It's $4 to buy the tool." Four dollars. Four dollars? That's about the most anyone has made off of a paper clip's job. OK, I get it. Supply and demand. Avoid this overpriced, predatory traveller trap. These folks pedal Lycamobile prepaid mobile plans which are both terrible and misleading. Before getting to the horror that is Lycamobile, allow me to share how badly these people engage in airport price gouging. 60 days of Lycamobile's $29 unlimited plan is sold for the totally bargain and not-at-all-unreasonable price of $130. Of course, they don't tell you are buying a $29 plan for twice the cost. You have to fight with Lycamobile customer "service" to find out what the plan should have cost. They also sell you a plan where your data is throttled after a certain number of GB used--fairly standard--however, what they don't tell you at the store is that "throttled" means 2G speeds which are good for email and not much else. Unfortunately, these folks have travelers by the short-hairs if you land and need quick cell service for Uber, or to coordinate a ride or hotel, so, apparently, they can do whatever the heck they want. On to Lycamobile. When I called about my data being totally unusable (I had exceeded the 4 GB the plan offered) I was finally informed that the speed thereafter was 2G. The rep admitted that sometimes there would be no data connection, or that the speed would be so slow that only email would work. So, basically, they admit that they aren't providing a useable (if slow) data connection. Oh, and if you want to take your Lycamobile number with you to a not-so-horrible carrier, be prepared for hostility, rudeness, and a ridiculous 2 hour wait while their computer system (which I can only assume is from an era where even a simple number generation program took ages to complete) generates the necessary account number for porting your phone number. That's right, you don't have an account number until you request that one be generated, and then it takes 2 hours to create one and have it texted to you. Plan ahead if you plan on transferring your number. It took me about 10 calls, numerous hang ups, being shunted to non-existent managers, etc. before I finally got my account number. Utterly ridiculous! The fact that this store uses Lycamobile makes them either negligent, or worse yet, knowingly in on the scam. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

We bought a 30 days $99.90 sim card from this kiosk on July 19, but it was expired on the 25th day. When I called the phone company T-Mobile, the staff told me the card was activated on July 14 already, that's mean this untruthful phone kiosk sold us an used sim card. When I called this kiosk, the unfriendly & lying staff/owner told me & insisted she couldn't do anything, didn't know how we communicate with the staff who sold us the sim card, just asked me to top up the sim card if I wanted to continue to use the sim card. We paid for a 30 days sim card, why we have to pay again in order to use the remaining 5 days. 5 days which costs $79.90. It is really ridiculous. They lied to us, sold us an used sim card & refused to do anything!?? Besides, this sim card which stated can use within the whole California, but many times couldn't get any signal at all, the worst sim card I ever used!
