Once again, I visited Trio. I needed a few bulbs, a tape measure and an Air Can. Christine is one of the reasons, you go to Trio and not the big box stores. She helped me complete my list by going isle to isle in minutes while educating me about the delicacy of the bulbs I was replacing. I thought I was in a time machine back to the 1960's. I was helping my parents change a light fixture and one of the pieces was broken. My dad and I went to Trio Hardware to get the part we needed. The people in the store are super friendly and extremely helpful. The person helping us took us to where the part was and checked it to the old part and rang us up. When I purchased this business 10 years ago, I wanted to model my new retail store on best practices. I had been visiting Mrs. Francesca Carlow's Trio Hardware since moving to Syosset in 1996. I learned it didn't matter what product or service you sold; what experience you provided the customer is what counted. I visited yesterday afternoon, Jared assisted me re-tool a power electric wheelchair for a young patient with cerebral palsy. As expected, the expertise was outstanding, the courtesy was astounding & finally, Jared's comment upon completion: "wish the young boy well!" The above would never have been done anywhere else. We are blessed to have this establishment & wish much success in the new location. Finally, consider a "charity box" at the front counter? I like the store very much! But there is one cashier at the front that never smiles and is not very nice. I asked if I could put the few things down I had to purchase and that I was still looking. Her reply was "if you have to" I was stunned. If you're working customer service and you don't like customers then go to another dept that you don't deal with the public!!!!! That was rude and nasty. The men and young girls couldn't be nicer. I do love this store but hesitate because of one bad apple. read more

If they don't have it, you don't need it. That's the tag line, but it's not the story. Granted, I love Trio and always know that I can find what I need, at reasonable prices. That isn't what puts me there over the big box stores, though. Service. Time and again, I walk in and I'm treated like a person, not a dollar sign. You come here to avoid the box store experience, so how can a smaller store have so much? They commit to the customer experience and are always on hand to help you find what you need. This is the support your local business for a good reason type of store. You won't find this kind of service and care at too many that only care about the sale these days and I'm not even old to say that. Positives: great staff. carry things you may not expect. comparable pricing for a "mom and pop" shop. Yeah that reputation is real just good folks! Negatives?: some people may expect amazon pricing or some such but that's your call. Lots of stuff here used to frequent old location more, but the new one is great. Just a side note nothing to do with the store, be careful in that parking lot some crazy aggressive people driving around the complex, not something to do with Trio but just a sidebar tip. read more

When I was a senior in High school, I worked for a neighborhood hardware store. I really enjoyed working there because I was a hands on individual and the owners provided education along with understanding how to provide the value the customer should receive. When I was younger, Home Depo and Lowes were not at the national brand they are today. I have been a customer of Trio Hardware for over twenty years. They are knowledgeable, pleasant and incredibly helpful no matter what your needs maybe. It's incredible what they actually stock that you probably will not find in a large chain store. Most importantly, they remind me of that neighborhood hardware store that treats each customer as if they are part of their family. There aren't many hardware store like Trio in business today. But there is a real good reason why so many people still continue to shop for all the hardware needs there and why I will never walk into a hardware chain over Trio. read more

People who are diehard Home Depot shoppers forget the old days when you went into a hardware store and you got "personal service" (If you're under 30 you're not expected to know). The new location allows them the space to carry any hardware item you can think of plus the old time hardware store incites such as key making and fixing screen door or window holes. Inventory is not that great and sadly that's the best thing about the place. Staff is unfriendly and not helpful at all. The employee literally rolled his eyes when I asked a question he obviously thought was stupid. Hey, household plumbing not my specialty it's yours! Not helpful.
