Burgers and sandwiches

We had another fine lunch at the Trinity Cafe and I thought I would provide an update since the waitress told us that a new menu was available since the original owner of the cafe had resumed operating the establishment. I attached some new pictures of the menu. We did not order from the food and salad bar but it appeared to be similar to the previous operators. Those around us returned from the food bar with heaping plates of fried fish that looked great. Also our waitress told us that the prices on the menu were lowered and we noted that in our case, the BLT and fries were cheaper than our previous visit. In this time of record inflation how often do you see prices reduced! We both ordered BLT's with hand-cut fries that were exceptional. We both decided not to toast the bread. In hindsight, that was not the best choice so next time we will get them toasted as usual. Hey, some times you have to try to live on the wild side and it often doesn't work out! The service was terrific. The coffee is fresh and the cups were refilled several times for us. Restaurant is clean and everyone is very friendly. We enjoyed our lunch and will always plan on stopping for lunch when traveling through Trinity.

Kid friendly cafe with great service and homemade food. Don't forget the key lime pie!

Today my family and I took a road trip to the little town of Trinity Texas. I don't believe I have ever visited this town before but it's possible I have for it is hardly a town; many of the shops and businesses are closed and it seems quite historical in a way. Arriving around noon we where on the hunt for a restaurant so googling restaurants and reviewing them on yelp I found "Trinity Cafe" with a 4 star rating and pleasant reviews so I decided this was the place to try. Upon entering this establishment I noticed a hot plate buffet to my right where a waitress was serving a customer the food items he chose through the glass, todays choices being fried catfish with hush puppies, fried okra, potato salad, corn, collard greens and an interesting dish called tater tot casserole (I for one have never seen this dish of ground meat with tator tots and cheese on top) but the man retrieved his plate and delightedly returned to his table. Directly in front of me when entering the restaurant was a salad bar which had fresh crunchy vegetables with all the trimmings of black olives, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and other things to enhance your salad to your liking. To my left sat several of the locals who seem to eat here often due to the fact that the waitresses knew them by name and would ask about their family members. We where directed from a waitress across the room to "sit anywhere we liked". Finding our seats we where brought a 2 sided paper menu, one side breakfast the other lunch. Scanning the menu we had choices of fish, hamburgers, something called the monster burger caught my attention but I was not feeling adventurous today so continue on; Chicken fried chicken, chicken fingers, chicken fried steak.... That was it my decision was chicken fried steak with one side item my choosing that being tater tots. If you ordered from the buffet you ate quickly but if you choose from the menu your meal was made fresh so it took a little longer. Scanning the room I noticed that this small town eatery was the place to go in this small town, the locals all seemed to know each other and talk amongst themselves about what new movie they wanted to go see; it felt like a step back in time to simpler times and small town living. Our waitress was a nice young lady who after bringing my mothers chicken strips felt they where not near big enough (despite them being the same size as sonics chicken strips) had the cook make her 2 extra. My chicken fried steak was bigger than my hand and I had to get a ''to go" box. My dad ate the catfish, okra and potato salad from the buffet which he said he enjoyed. We sat quite and enjoyed our meal. I think I would return to this establishment if I'm ever in the area again and I'm craving some down home cooking.

Rating purely based on the cookies brought home to me. These cookies were surprisingly…read morescrumptious! They are dense and chewy cookies (my favorite type!) and also thick. :D Biscoff cookie (4.5/5)-- this one made me a fan! The cookie was sweet with pockets of Biscoff spread inside. Great for any Biscoff lover! The quality control isn't the best though, as the second time I had the cookie, it was dry and crumbly. If the cookie is usually dry like that, it would be more of a 3/5. I would risk another try though! Cookies and cream (4/5)-- this one was a good cookie too, capturing all the essence of an Oreo flavor. It didn't stand out in uniqueness but it was yummy :) this one was a little harder and crumblier than the Biscoff cookie, but now I wonder if it was just old or dried out... Pistachio brittle/toffee cookie (3/5)-- wasn't a fan of this one, as the taste was a bit off (either a little bitter or maybe artificial tasting?) and the brittle chunks were super hard, super sweet , and super sticky (like butterfinger filling but less melty!). The chunks were tasty (and veryyy sweet), but I had to pick them out and eat the separately since it didn't pair well with the cookie texture for me. MT says the service has always been nice, and they seemed really happy when he bought whole load of cookies, hehe~ Katie's Cafe is one of the go-to spots for his lunches out there!

Even the sandwiches they sell are full of flavor and delicious the only thing is I wish they sold the sandwiches everyday/all day not just sometimes. The owners are kind and if you like conversation they always enjoy talking to their customers, on the same note I'm not big on small talk or making conversation and they never make me feel uncomfortable. **Be cautious of open and close times I've showed up more than once seeing they're closed because Google has the time wrong. **

I met my friend there at 10:00am. It was very quiet, which I like. The person taking the orders was Lilly. She was so sweet. She told us where she imports different ingredients from and how she uses the highest quality ingredients. She has a very extensive menu of both iced and hot coffees. There were also sandwiches and muffins. She told us that if we wanted something that wasn't on the menu, she would fix it for us. She asked me what flavors I like and what I don't like to help me make the best choice. I went with mocha coffee served hot. My friend got an iced drink called wedding cake. Both drinks were larger than I expected. I think 18 ounces but I may be mistaken. I was going to let mine cool off but she said it wasn't necessary. She was right! I was able to drink it right away. The temperature was perfect. It tasted great! My friend said her drink was awesome. The shop is delightful! There are several couches with coffee tables, some bar height table and stools as well. We sat on the couch and visited there until just after 1:00! A few people came in while we were there but they were all quiet and lept to themselves. There was some music playing but it wasn't loud at all. The setting is so peaceful and serene. The only picture I took was of a green vinyl couch because it reminded me of the one at my husband's frat house at SHSU in the mid 80s. I plan on going back again as soon as possible. I highly recommend Lilly's in Willis!
