A surprise find we found this place on a whim. Husband and Wife team making the food. Burrito like food on the weekdays. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday they have more specialty items.

This is one of the best Trinidadian restaurants in the Northern United States. We were visiting from The US, I am Trinidadian and this is the most authentic, fresh, genuine food, true to island cookings. It is located about 12 minutes out of downtown Victoria but worth the drive to find this gem! We ventured on Saturday and they had doubles! A well-known Trinidadian street food loved by natives. The owners are a husband and wife duo, they are so friendly and warm. Their restaurants truly reflects their hospitality and the reasons Trinidadians are some of the friendliest people. Back to the food... must go for doubles, wings, and roti! Worth the trip! It was my husbands first time having doubles, he's American and he loved them. The food is fresh and if you have to wait, don't complain it's because they are cooking it hot for you! It's not from a bag in the freezer! It's is ALL FRESH & HOT! Best trini food in Victoria! MUST GO! We will be back next time.

    Best roti? You decide!

4*s - Victoria rating, more like 3-3.5* by GTA standards. Why? Firstly, there's no competition here. The front of the store claims that it's the #1 roti joint in Vic, but where are the other roti places? Secondly, the prices, especially for doubles, $3?? Try $1-1.50 in T.O. $3 doubles would never fly in my 'hood! Chicken Roti w/ Dahl puri shell ($10)- Not flaky, re: did not consist of many soft layers, but it was closer to a soft tortilla shell - minus the corn taste. Stuffing was more chickpeas/mashed up potato than chunks of chicken. Prices back home would be closer to $8-8.50, so not super out there. Double - Again, like twice the price of Toronto, but there's more competition there, depending on what area you're in. Got this medium and the spice mixture tasted nice with a hint of cucumber to cool it off. Filling consisted of chickpea/mashed up potato. A good substitute if you're missing some West Caribbean eats, but not a replacement if you're coming from an area where it's fairly easy to get. I believe this place + The Reef (downtown) are the only places for this fare in Vic!

Trini Curried Goat. Better than lamb. Totally unique and very affordable. My wife and I eat this every chance we can. Served Friday's & Sat.

If you haven't been yet...open your mind, and let the flavors and the quality of their food blow you away. Drop all your assumptions about this being like curry from the Indian subcontinent...this food is from Trinidad- the cuisine capital of the Caribbean. Everything made from scratch and with secret tips passed on by grandma. Awesome prices. You simply can't go wrong here.

The halibut is perfect-just like I like it. The pieces are generous. One piece is plenty for the average person. The halibut is BC caught, which is great. Tasted fresh and delicious. I like the fresh tasting coleslaw. It isn't that gluggy sweet sugar & mayo combo you get at many places. It was just a simple cut up cabbage nicely seasoned. Maybe it had a little something else on it. Expect a line whenever you go because the word is out. The wait staff was friendly and working hard to keep the line moving. We found a chair up against a narrow wooden "bar" facing the water. It was quite warm so we appreciated the shade of an umbrella.

I got the albacore tuna and tempura cod tacones which were decently priced and filling - 2 was more than enough for a nice meal. The albacore tuna was prepared medium and fresh and flavorful, and the tempura cod is nicely battered. Both shared similar ingredients like the slaw and it was hard to differentiate the different sauces. Line was long - even on Saturday 4:30pm, it was a 15 min queue and another 10 minutes for food. Lots of ample seating outdoors only, so I can imagine it being more busy on a nicer day like when I visited.

Service was friendly though…read morewe were left alone the majority of the meal except when they server came by to take our order and get our bill. Other than that, no one really checked up on us though some people (owners? employees?) did walk by. Food was tasty though we both found the jerk chicken and shrimp salty (it was a bit spicy for me but that's just my tolerance). For around $25 for my dish after tax and tips, I can't say I left completely satisfied. I like supporting local businesses and would recommend trying though!

However, it appeared you could not put the two together when ordering and the server (I think) was extremely nice but she had to go back and ask with every order. It was weird since it showed on the website you could get a beef patty and coco bread. In the end I ended up getting a patty in a coco bread but it was so complicated to order. My husband got the same thing and an order of Johnny cakes with the Mango butter. The best thing about the whole experience was the Johnny Cakes and the mango butter. It was truly the mango butter that had me bring a smile to my face. If I could, I would of slathered the whole butter in the Johnny cakes. When it comes to the beef patty, my husbands was warm yet mine was ice cold in the middle. Clearly microwaved I would assume. In the end it was just an okay experience if that. I would like to see more consistency with the menu and the knowledge of it and the promise of fresh made food being true. It sure didn't taste like that with the patty.
