I asked for more on the cooked side on the special with fish (no price but found out later is was $36 on the bill.) I don't like my food raw.i was then told that I shouldn't ask as the chief knows how to cook the fish perfectly and attitude as if it was disrespectful to even question how it would be cooked....well it came out RAW RAW RAW!! It was so RAW that it was cold and probably missed the grill completely. The pad see ew had chicken which tasted liked it was dipped in acid spice even though we order mild. The only decent plate out of five was the crab cakes, which was an appetizer. The thermostat must have been set to 100 degrees Fahrenheit as we were shedding clothes and holding cold water to our face as my whole party was overheating. Great way to end my birthday and waste of an hour in the car to be hit with a high bill with very little to be happy about. We all couldn't wait to leave and never come back. read more

Summary: Dietary restrictions not respected and chef aggressive about fixing mistakes (and profiled my friend) I unfortunately did not have a good experience at this restaurant tonight. I ordered two vegetarian dishes and clarified with the waitress (who was great) that both dishes did not contain meat. However, when the samosas were brought out for my friends and I, I tried the samosa and it clearly had chicken in it. I called over a waiter and said that there was chicken in my food (despite ordering the vegetarian option) and only when both of my friends showed a piece of chicken to the staff was I believed. We didn't want to make a scene and our waitress promised she would check with the kitchen and get a new vegetarian samosa order out for us. That should have been the end of it. However, the chef decided to come out with the new order and loudly announce that it was chicken (as a supposed joke??). None of us laughed as I was stressed that the new dish wasn't safe for me. She then continued to say she was allowed to make a joke in an aggressive tone to my friend. This was clearly profiling as my friend is of Indian descent, despite me clearly being the vegetarian (I was the person responding to everything she said and looked very distressed AND was noticeably not eating the meat samosas). She was quite aggressive and finally left. We then started eating and the chef returned to make another scene, continuing to berate my friend. She acted like it was a big gift that she fixed the mistake when she had not followed my dietary restrictions and directly served me something I made sure to not order. She explained that it was due to another less experienced person helping out that the mistake had occured. This is understandable but what was not understandable was why she continued to not apologize, direct everything to my friend, and make inappropriate loud jokes that made me feel like my order would not be safe. After she was very loudly in my friends face, I finally said that I was the vegetarian, not my friend (who was clearly not the vegetarian). She still did not look at me for her comments. Finally as she was leaving with a rude remark, she brushed her hand along my friends back, which was clearly inappropriate. I will not be returning to this restaurant (despite the lovely other staff) and I think if you are vegetarian you should take your business elsewhere. read more

We were in Victoria for a week and dined out much of the time and Victoria has some really nice places we visit when there. Tried this location as saw on a local news show. The staff friendly and accommodating and attentive. The owner was very friendly and intuitive. We'll be back next time in town! The location is quaint. Nohra is unlike any Thai restaurant I've ever been to. The food is mouth wateringly good. Clean, fresh, wholesome, delicate, up-lifting. The chef, who is also the owner, is calm, super friendly and genuinely interested in being helpful and available. The tofu is amazing, and I have never enjoyed it anywhere else. The oils are fragrant and feel peaceful, instead of burdened with heaviness, like most other places. I am not a vegan, but I love the vegan dishes as much as the meat varieties. The place is always busy, but I sometimes go in the afternoon when its quiet. I have never had a disappointing experience in probably 30 visits. read more

We came for lunch today, August 4, 2024, having read some good reviews. Well, it was very disappointing, unfortunately. I ordered pad thai and my hubby -- basil chicken stir fry. When server brought my order, I immediately noticed that the noodles had NO SAUCE, whatsoever, there were no bean sprouts and even NO crushed peanuts so essential to pad thai. Believe me, I ate many a pad thai in Victoria Thai restaurants and I know what pad thai is and how it should look and taste. Yours was very dismal : NO SAUCE ! Just pale dry noodles. I tasted the dish and, of course, ot was not good. I informed the server. She took away my plate. VERY SOON after this a man came with another plate that had some sauce on noodles and some peanuts and even a slice of lime. The man, who said he is the owner, was really non apologetic and did not seem affected by this mishap. I cannot believe the you treat your patrons with such blatant disrespect that a very popular dish was NOT DONE PROPERLY. SHAME !!!! You lost a potential customer ! Delightful small boutique eatery tastefully decorated with delightful informative serving staff. The chef is from southern Thailand and many dishes reflected this palate which was tastefully pleasantly different from the overly sweet soupy dishes found in mainstream Thai restaurants . Shared between two of us a papaya salad and a yellow curry for two under the shady tree that had cool art just above our heads. Incredibly bright summery flavors - southern Thai cousine is now my favorite. My husband likes spicy and I like mild - it was no problem, the staff recommended ordering mild and getting a spicy sauce ( which was amazing by my husband's account). I eat Thai food wherever I travel and this place could unseat my hometown favorite for the number 1 spot. First of all- the service was excellent. The hostess and the waitress were welcoming and asked about food allergies and preferences. We started with the spring rolls. Then had the pad see ew, crispy pork belly, the almond chicken, the kah Tom, and the last dish on the specials list. Each one was very flavorful and fresh. My teenage sons even raved about the vegetables. The pork belly with a little additional spice was my favorite. Each bite was so tender. We shared all the dishes and cleaned off every plate. Dessert was mango and sticky rice as well as the banana fritters. Everyone is ready to go back tomorrow! read more

The chef at Nohra (Pam, if I remember correctly) makes the best Thai food I've ever had. And she also made us feel very welcome, with her huge and warm smile We felt like we were part of her family for a while. First we shared a Crying Tiger salad, with these thin slices of beef cooked just right (not overcooked like most restaurants that make big batches in advance and reheat just before serving), and a magical mix or spices and herbs that take you on a trip on the first bite. Then we had a Massaman Curry and a Spicy and Sour Curry (Gaeng Som). The first one was simply delicious with potatoes, onions and pineapple in a peanut sauce. The second blew my mind, a bowl of light (as in "not thick or creamy") stew of green papaya and prawns cooked to perfection and, here again, a magic blend of spices and shrimp paste that combine into this astonishing and addictive sour and spicy curry (that's the name of the dish on the menu). The heat level was perfect for us (we both like spicy food). To go with these curries we had a plain rice, a sticky rice and a roti. All delicious, not much else to say. In my opinion, Nohra Thai Kitchen delivers the best thai experience in Victoria. Tasty authentic thai food, friendly service, great wine pairings, beautiful location, and warm atmosphere. Our family's favourites so far (we're working our way through the entire menu!): Naked Wings, Phad Thai, Massaman Lamb Curry (an absolute must!), Turmeric Chicken, Green Curry, and Fried Rice. Make sure to order a side of Cucumber Relish too! And kids can't get enough of the Thai Iced Tea. The portions are so generous that we haven't made it all the way to desserts yet! We heard Padella Italian Bistro (previously Paprika) recently changed to Nohra Thai and thought we'd give it a try as we both love Thai cuisine. The service was friendly and solicitous, but sadly the food fell short of our expectations, even on an old standby, Phad Thai Noodles with prawns. There were only 3 prawns in the dish and the rice noodles were overcooked. They tasted as if they had been precooked and just reheated in the wok before serving. The flavor was lackluster. I honestly want Nohra to succeed because Oak Bay does need a decent Thai restaurant. I hope the chef will take my comments with grace and make an attempt to improve. Went for dinner last night and loved it. Very clean and welcoming space and great service. Ordered the spring rolls, satay, roti and peanut sauce, veggie stir fry and dragon salad. Spring rolls were crispy, piping hot and delicious. All the herbs and vegetables were crisp and fresh. Loved all the flavours. The cucumber relish and peanut sauce are perfect. We had another fabulous meal at Nohra's Thai Kitchen in Estevan Village last night. They have a great take-out service and an easy on-line ordering app or by phone. It is hands-down the best Thai food I've eaten outside of Thailand. Phen, the Thai owner and chef is skilled and imaginative with her ingredients. The crunchy, tasty Spring Rolls are a must for us. There is a Crispy Pork Belly dish that's amazing, lots of Ocean-wise fish possibilities and lovingly hand-crafted Thai curries, red, green and yellow. Don't be afraid of heat. If you've never tried Thai food before it has layers and layers of flavours and you can specify your preference from mild to hot. You can have it mild if you like with still tons of tastes to enjoy, or roaring hot if you're a veteran of the cuisine. One new discovery, be sure to ask about the specials. Last night it was a dish from Chaing Mai in Northern Thailand called Khao Soi, fettuccine type noodles, juicy chicken and an amazing curry sauce. It was such a treat. read more

Pending review Long wait Got our drinks and appetizer within an expected time but then had to wait over 1 hour for our main course. About 5 minutes before it came a server apologized for the delay and offered us a complimentary dessert. By that time we were very annoyed, ate our main course when it finally arrived and did not want dessert. The owner then came over to the table and also apologized, letting us know there would be no charge for the main meal. Shortly after the owner's wife, who is also the chef, came to the table apologizing as well and looked to make amends for the incredibly and unacceptable long wait. The meal was alright but nothing outstanding, the joy and spirit of the evening had been ruined and where was all this attention to the delay of the main meal when we were sitting there waiting for over 1 hour.
