Panang Curry
Crystal H.

I really wanted to give this place a 5! We are visiting Victoria and I read this Thai restaurant is one of the best around town so I had really high hopes and I was really hungry. The service was great, they were very accommodating, efficient, and super nice. They were attentive and just overall good service. The food on the other hand was okay... My boyfriend ordered a curry and he said it was good! He was starving so he finished every last bit of curry and rice. He wishes there was more actual curry, but enjoyed how there was a lot of vegetables compared to other restaurants. I ordered their drunken noodles. It was way over seasoned so it made the dish really salty. The dish required a glass or water or two. The dish was a huge portion, however.

Chicken

The restaurant was bigger than expected and has a great atmosphere. We got our service promptly and our food came not long after we ordered. We got 3 dishes to go with rice. We had chicken green curry, seafood red chilli paste and pork red chilli paste. All of them tasted great. The chicken and pork could be more tender and juicy. Overall, it was enjoyable and we were all full by the end.

Basil Prawns, Panang Prawn Curry, Tofu Pad Thai, Coconut Rice + Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Tasty food. Very good Pad Thai and curries. Panang is especially flavourful. We enjoyed a spice level of medium-hot and it's the perfect amount of kick. The Vegetarian Spring Rolls are delicious. Always busy so make reservations. Ambience is nice. Popular for takeout (if phone is busy, keep tryin). Service is great - always a dozen or so employees keeping things running well. The number one rated restaurant in WestShore (and Sidney) for good reason. 4.5/5

Red prawn curry and chicken pad thai.

A friend suggested this place as she was craving Thai, and I'm a sucker for a good thai dish. Great atmosphere walking in, great service. Place was fairly busy, but not so loud we couldn't talk. Food was delightful. We ordered the red curry prawns, chicken pad thai, and deep fried pineapple and icecream. The curry was fantastic. Full of prawns, very flavorful but not melt your face off hot. Only complaint on this dish was the portion size. For $17 I'd like a bigger dish (not more prawns, but more everything else) and rice was an extra $2.50. Chicken pad thai was well done, not oily. Deep fried pineapple was a little disappointing. Canned pineapple instead of fresh. Fresh would have brought the dish together, but instead left it with a funny taste. This restaurant is a solid 4.5/5.

Loved the soup and fried rice! Parking lot has limited amount of spaces but plenty of people don't mind the wait for parking space and food!

The food was quite authentic. I wish they had mango sticky rice for dessert option instead of the cream brûlée.

Thai Green Elephant Restaurant - Ruam Mit ($20 for 2 people): pricey but a great way to start the meal!

Note: those with kids will find there is no kid's menu, so be prepared to share or bring some home :) === 2. FOOD Thai Iced Tea ($4.50) Served in a tall, slim glass - lovely! Som Tum Thai (Green Papaya Salad, $16) A little on the small side for the price, but the flavours and mix of crunchy textures delight! Ruam Mit ($20 for 2 people) 2 x chicken satay skewers, 2 x spring rolls, and 2 x fish cake patties: the taste makes it worth the price of admission! Egg Fried Rice ($12.95 for large) So the portion is small for the price, but the flavour is delish and comes with that authentic taste that could only originate from a wok that had the right heat and cooking technique! Gang Dang (red curry, $19.50 with beef) This red curry has bamboo shoots and peppers, as well as your choice of prawns, chicken, pork, beef, or tofu. It comes in a small bowl and does not include rice so this may be the worst value on the menu, but the flavour is spot on. Pla Lad Prik (deep-fried fish, $25 for red snapper) You could do base fish for $1 less. The price is steep for what you get, but you will enjoy each mouthful. We got the sauce on the side which was good for us (your preference may differ) - it's sweet-and-sour like with chopped veggies. Nam Sai (like pho, $18.50 with pork) It's like a Thai version of Vietnamese pho! Comes with your choice of beef or pork. Nice and flavourful without being too strong or making you feel thirsty afterward. This might be the only item on the menu that aligns with the value/portion size! === 3. SERVICE It was good overall: reservation was taken easily and honoured, server was quite attentive and apologetic when she brought the incorrect dish and when the table seemed dirtier than expected upon arrival. No worries here! === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a neighbourhood joint that shares the building with a framing company. Older on the outside and inside - to get up and into the place may be a challenge with those navigating a wheelchair or baby stroller. There are a decent number of tables for groups up to say, 10 or so amid the older, perhaps intimate decor. Parking is however lucky you are between the businesses; at least 5 spots appear to be available on the side of the building.

FOOD Moo Tod Kratiem ($20) This is like the Thai version of pork tonkatsu - panko-breaded pork sliced up - that's served up on a bed of cabbage, carrots, and bean sprouts. It was decent and my little guy like it but note for all parents: even requesting a dish to be "mild" can be seen as spicy for little ones! Gaeng Keaw Waan ($20) It's a green curry served with a bowl of rice - in it are chicken, peppers, carrots, and bamboo shoots. It's pretty good also but the same warning about "mild" applies here to parents of little ones :) Pad See-Ew Vegetarian ($22) You can order this with beef, chicken, or pork for the same price. It's decent with a hint of heat (when requested "mild"), but far too small for the price in takeout. === 3. SERVICE For a takeout order, the service was professional - they do get busy as the only Thai joint in the area surrounded by apartments, so call ahead for best results! === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's small, a little dim, but clean. Best to keep your groups to 6 or preferably 4 or smaller. Wheelchairs and baby strollers could theoretically fit, but they're a squeeze in the small gaps between tables. Parking is up to the driver's luck on the street out front.

And she…read morealso made us feel very welcome, with her huge and warm smile We felt like we were part of her family for a while. First we shared a Crying Tiger salad, with these thin slices of beef cooked just right (not overcooked like most restaurants that make big batches in advance and reheat just before serving), and a magical mix or spices and herbs that take you on a trip on the first bite. Then we had a Massaman Curry and a Spicy and Sour Curry (Gaeng Som). The first one was simply delicious with potatoes, onions and pineapple in a peanut sauce. The second blew my mind, a bowl of light (as in "not thick or creamy") stew of green papaya and prawns cooked to perfection and, here again, a magic blend of spices and shrimp paste that combine into this astonishing and addictive sour and spicy curry (that's the name of the dish on the menu). The heat level was perfect for us (we both like spicy food). To go with these curries we had a plain rice, a sticky rice and a roti. All delicious, not much else to say. We were very pleased with our evening and will definitely come back again. Thank you Nohra team and all the best.

The bun was incredibly fresh, light, and pillowy, while the pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth tender with the perfect balance of richness and tang from the kimchi. The pickled vegetables added a bright crunch that tasted incredibly fresh. We started with the salmon tartare, and it was phenomenal! Rich, buttery, bursting with flavor, and so good we were literally fighting over the last bite. And the scallop? Order one for each person. Seriously. It's far too delicious to share. It had just the right amount of heat, leaving the perfect lingering warmth that immediately made us want another. Do yourself a favor and give yourself enough time to work your way through the menu, because every dish we tried was outstanding. Each plate was thoughtfully curated, beautifully executed, and cooked to perfection. I like to call it the C³ trifecta: curated, created, and cooked.
