I used to love my experiences at Baan Thai. I probably have eaten there 100 or more times in 20 (? or more) years. Matthew has run a great restaurant in the past and whenever something did go wrong, he made good on it right away. Ambiance has stayed consistently great, although turnover of staff and kitchen crew seem more like a revolving door these days. Since covid, the food feels cheaper, mistakes are much more common in terms of ordering, quality and pick ups as well. After about a dozen disappointing experiences, almost all in a row, I have sadly resolved to no longer visit what used to be our favourite "go-to" place. The new more expensive menu prices unfortunately do not reflect improved quality. I don't know how many stars to give. I like to be a positive person, so for the benefit of the doubt, I will give three. read more

Baan thai is a great authentic Thai restaurant. If you take the time to ask, they employ lots of thai immigrants. It is great food. The panang curry is my personal favorite. It makes for some scrumptious leftovers. Great people here. Take out can be crazy, so it's important to keep that in mind here and to be patient. Some friends took us here a couple of months ago. It's become our go to place for lunch or dinner with friends or just the two of us. Super healthy choices with vegetarian, seafood or meat choices. Wonderful and helpful staff that I noticed are treated with great respect by the owners. A real plus to have happy and content serving staff. We arrived the restaurant by 5:30, placed our order by 5:45, and ordered nothing special but papaya salad, curry, and staff picked noodle soup. Waited an hour. All other tables after us got their food, we kept waiting and waiting and didn't even get our papaya salad which doesn't even need to cook!!! We asked friendly whether the waitress missed our order since it's been an hour. She said "of course not" and said it was very busy in the kitchen and we should "check the kitchen." We understand it was rush hour and kitchen has been busy, but the response from the waitress was very disrespectful. If you don't want to sit here and wait until you arenhypoglycemic, do not come!!! We literally stumbled into this restaurant as we came from Vancouver as a side trip and not being familiar with the area we just tried our luck with this restaurant and we were not disappointed. We noticed that the albeit small restaurant was half full with a number of take-outs ready for pickup which were good signs. Service was quick and attentive for our party of seven including one 3 year old. To keep things easy for some of the people in our group who don't eat spicy we went with the minimum spice level. And generally the flavor gets lost when you do that but we liked every dish served up tonight. We ordered the papaya salad, chicken coconut milk soup, pad Thai, pad see ew, green curry, red curry, eggplant and tofu and rice. Every dish was on point and delicious and we eat Thai quite frequently. Would like this restaurant to be in our neighborhood...in Los Angeles that is. However they have a very small selection of lighter cold foods (one salad so if you are looking for that go somewhere else) but their noddle dishes and citrus soups really make up for it and I would recommend it to anyone who's local. read more

The food is good. The one thing about this location is that time and time again they ignore the phone. I called twice tonight and got an answering machine, so I drove over and placed my order in the restaurant. The restaurant was not full so I was confused as to why they didn't answer the call. As the server was taking my order their phone was ringing and she ignored it. I then sat and waited for my order, servers continued to ignore the phone. I looked around to see how many servers were on and counted about 4 or 5. Please fix this issue. Why not have a hostess seating and taking take out orders on busy nights? This issue has been going on for years, I just want to be able to order over the phone as the downtown location seems to be able to do this. read more

The ambience is not bad. The service was good. The food was very salty. The Tom Kah Gai (a lime lemongrass tangy soup with chicken) was not bad. The battered squid is so so...the dipping hot sauce is nice. Everything else was over salted...some strange salty ground beef or pork dish that came by itself (maybe with lettuce as a wrap would balance the extreme salt). Green curry was ok. Fried noodles too salty and the vegetables (gai lan) in that dish was not blanched through (this might be a one off). The deep fried banana with ice cream was probably the highlight. Pricing with tip n tax would be approximately $20-$25. I had over 8 glasses of water from dinner and hours after. But the restaurant got really busy after 6 on a Friday. read more

The portions generous and well seasoned with authentic Thai flavors. The Baan Thai Restaurant is definitely a must! The portions are quite large, but very very delicious. We were greeted, and checked for temperature as we walked in. The servers were friendly and welcoming! They were so nice! The food is absolutely fantastic! They are served fresh, hot, and quite fast. Not a fan of this place. I ordered the chicken pad thai and also a vegetable dish. Both were very oily and salty. The food was much heavier than Thai food usually is in my experience. It tasted like they are adding extra oil, salt, and sugar to make up for lack of fresh flavour. My friend's spring rolls were decent, but those are meant to be oily.
