Short walk from our hotel. I chose this restaurant for a quick, early dinner after seeing a picture of the mango sticky rice. The restaurant had many tables and was dimly lit. It was so early so we had our pick of tables to choose from. My husband and son weren't very hungry so we chose a couple of dishes to share between the three of us. It was just enough food and completely delicious. We ordered the pad see ew, crying tiger beef and mango sticky rice. Our server was very kind, attentive and gracious. My coworker and I were looking for a cheap lunch and came across this lovely restaurant. I just came back from Thailand so I was craving some Thai food. We both got the Noodles Delight - stir fry noodles with a peanut sauce and your choice of meat. I chose beef. I asked for a mild spicy level and this was a tad spicier than I wanted, but it was so flavourful, it had a nice char on the noodles, and the beef was tender. Growing up in VN, I always heard how good Thai food is. I've been to a lot of Thai restaurants in NOLA, and though they are all good, they are not extremely fantastic like the rumors. This is the first time that I had Thai food that blew my mind. It lives up to the hype. It's so good that even all my kids ate all their food. They can't remember what Thai food is since we dont eat Thai food very often. But now they believe Thai food is so good. I will be craving this type of Thai food when I'm back in New Orleans. The salt and pepper pork is fantastic. The pad Talay and Pad Kee Mao Woon Sen are amazing, too. Their Thai coffee is gigantic. Too bad they didn't have Mango sticky rice. There was a restaurant downtown New Orleans that had best mango sticky rice before Katrina. That restaurant was out of business due to Katrina. So I was excited to try the mango sticky rice here. Went for dinner on a rainy cold Monday, and left SO HAPPY. The ambiance is charming, nothing flashy but still - quaint and clean. The food though...incredible. I had the Siam special fried rice and my friend had the chicken pad Thai. Both were fantastic. My rice had a charred wok seared taste that was amazing, and my friend's pad Thai was the best I've probably ever tasted. Plus the staff were super friendly and service was perfect. We were planning to check out The Little Jumbo for dinner Friday evening but when we went in, it was an hour and a half wait. No chance we were waiting that long so we backtracked a few steps and hit up Siam Thai Restaurant instead. We got in around 7:00pm and didn't have any trouble grabbing a seat. But get there early because it got packed as the night carried on. Service is hectic as only two waitresses were serving the whole restaurant. Food came out slow but it was worth the wait. They have lunch specials (10 options, all at $8.95). Good deal! The regular menu has the usual suspects: appetizers, salads, soups, chef specials, chicken/beef/pork, fried rice & noodles, seafood and vegetarian. - 2x Thai iced tea ($3.50) - more stronger and less sweet than normal. We liked it! - 4x Chang beer ($5.95) - Satay chicken (#1) ($8.95) - grilled chicken skewers with peanut sauce. Chicken was moist. I liked the side of cucumber and red onion. B thought the peanut sauce was a tad thick. - Steamed rice (#51) ($6.00 large) - Green curry (S3) ($14.95) - spicy green curry, coconut milk, bamboo shoot, bell pepper and basil. We asked for everything to be medium but this had a good spice level. We went with beef which was a tad tough. Bamboo shoots were massive. - Siam special fried rice ($13.95) - fried rice with prawn, chicken, egg, pineapple, vegetables and yellow curry. Yellow curry gave it a nice kick. Think this was my favourite dish. Delicious. - Noodle delight (#24) ($12.95) - stir-fried noodles, bean sprouts, green onion topped with peanut sauce. Similar to pad thai but they use a different noodle and I preferred the peanut sauce over the usual overly sweet tamarind sauce. Nice change. - Goong preaw wann (#38) ($18.95) - sweet and sour prawns with pineapple and vegetables. This reminded me of sweet and sour pork but Thai style. Went here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. It's a super authentic spot with a huge array of Thai dishes. I asked for the specialty, a fish curry which blew my mind. The fish was perfectly crispy and the red curry sauce with bamboo shoots was to die for. On top of it, the waitress was so dedicated to giving good service for my friends and I that she was literally running in and out of the kitchen. After the fantastic meal, she hit me with a " khawp khun kha " (thank you in Thai), which I hadn't heard since I was in Thailand and it made me emotional. Big brownie points. read more

I was in the downtown tourist area and decided to hit this place up, Victoria is a sleepy city and things close early. I didn't want to go to a chain like The Keg though those places seemed to be the only places still opened. The interior of Siam Thai is warm and inviting, with a beautiful bar area and tables done up in southeast Asian style decor (not sure how authentic though). The waitress was actually Thai (I think) and was very sweet and quick. Menu and water was provided promptly, and she didn't rush me even though I take forever to decide on a meal (especially with a menu as vast as theirs). The restaurant was empty at first, but started to fill up quickly as the evening wore on. I asked her about vegetarian options and she was very gracious in her suggestions (I occasionally eat meat but wasn't in the mood for it then). I ordered spring rolls, a veggie curry and a Singha beer. She asked for spice levels and I asked for spicy. I got what I wanted, and the food was ample and delicious. The vegetables were fresh, and the rolls were huge, crisp and the plum sauce was dark and tasty. Even though she was the only waitress, she was extremely efficient in taking orders and clearing tables on top of the app delivery pick ups. Apparently Siam is the first Thai restaurant in the city. Victoria has several great Thai restaurants, but Thai Siam is probably my favourite of the bunch. I have frequent cravings for their Tom Kha Gai soup. I've had several variations, I think Thai Siam's is the tastiest. The Pad Thai is delicious, and we usually order a seafood curry and a rice dish to round out the meal. Medium spicy was almost too spicy which is rare for a Thai restaurant. I asked for cutlery and got s set of chopsticks. In s Thai restaurant? Thais use forks not chopsticks. Thai Siam fits in to the long list of Thai restaurants that taste good to me, but I don't know if it's authentic, good, bad, or otherwise. Basically, my three star range for Thai is enormous - I'm not sure what would push me up to a four. I had a regular old green curry, which came in a huge helping with lots of good veggies, and we also enjoyed a ground chicken dish with lime, carrot, and onion. The tangy chicken was good with the sweet/spicy curry, so this was a good combo, and the lime flavor was something I'd not tried before. Not sure if it's just something I've missed on other menus. Price was reasonable, service was fine, and they were open late, so, no complaints really. There's lots of places to try in Victoria, so I'd be back, but maybe not right away. read more
