Doing a ring and pinion change on a Dana 60 and S110. Ordering all my own parts from different vendors and called them to see if they wanted to do the work for me a few weeks ago when ordering the parts. Don't know who I talked to the first time, but made sure he knew I was bringing my own parts (since alot of shops make money on the parts, I get it) and they quoted me $475 an axle. Sounded reasonable. Got my parts in, called to schedule the work and must have got the owner on the phone. Said he wasn't excited about the job with me buying my own parts because he wasn't going to make enough money on it. Asked me the price I was quoted from him earlier, said "no thank you". I still need the work done and asked him to shoot me a price where he would make the money he needed on the job, said $2500. I didn't get the work done there. read more

Work is to notch. They know there way around jeeps and diffs. Only problem I have with them is there pricing. If you call for a quote, it will be misrepresented. They just give you a low ball price so you will drop off your vehicle. Once they tear it down, it will always be 3 times what they quoted you. They give you no choice but to repair it, because your vehicle is torn apart. I even dropped off a loose axle fir some work. Was quoted just under 600. I supplied the parts. In the end, everything was wrong and ended up costing me 2k. After calling Currie Enterprises, I found out I could of had a complete axle built for less. Like I said, they know there stuff. But they take advantage of it and over charge the crap out of everything. If you have an open budget for a build, this is the place. If you have a budget you need to stay with, don't go here. You will get screwed and locked in at an outrageous cost that they make you pay. read more

The rear end on my Jeep Grand Cherokee needed to be rebuilt. It's kind of common...bad bearings or something like that during manufacturing makes them fail early. There are a lot of threads about this problem on Jeep sites all over the internet. After getting an estimate that made my eye twitch uncontrollably at another shop, a friend's father suggested Tri-County Gear. I drove my Jeep to beautiful Pomona after speaking with them on the phone and getting a quote the fell in line with what I had read the rebuild should cost. I rolled into a serious industrial area and found a street lined with Jeeps, mostly of the CJ and Wrangler type and mostly all lifted for real off-road use. Inside was more of the same, real off-road ready Jeeps and a few Broncos getting worked on. That made me feel good, even though my Jeep is pretty much stock. The guys that I dealt with could not have been nicer. The owner even took my Jeep for a spin after the work was done and had a little bottle of fluid added to make everything run smoother and quieter before they handed it back to me. Hello having pride in the work that you do. They took apart the rear end and replaced the two axles, bearings, differential bearings, seals, fluids, AND changed the oil for $850. That was what I had read the job should have costed (without the oil change) on the Jeep sites. Compare that to the quote that I got at another Jeep repair shop for $2,100 and the quote from a Jeep dealership for $1,900 to do the job. Thank you Tri-County Gear. We took our F150 to him with rear end noise he not only fixed the problem he troubleshoot a issue we didn't even know we had. I came here to get the rear axle rebuilt on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This place is interesting. Me and my father take the Jeep and explain to Tim what we need. Tim is the guy who is usually at the front desk, hes a pretty nice guy, but "out of it". Some of the staff is friendly, but some are up right A-holes (These are the guys that dont do the front desk, go figure). The mechanics do very good work from what I saw and read online in jeep forums. If you come here knowing what you want, and knowing around what it should cost, then you will probably be happy. However, if you come here like most non jeep enthusiast will and not know everything about your jeep or about whats broken (like I did at the time) You will most likely get ripped off/taken advantage of, like I KINDA did. They charged me like 250 for labor to install the used axle which is totally reasonable, however the asked 600 for a USED dana 35! Too bad I didnt do my research! If only I had known that I could have gone to a junk yard and picked one up for like 100 bucks... Sort of my fault, but still its not like Tim didnt know he was ripping me off, and he knew I was on a very tight budget. All in all, bad management, bad people skills, bad area, good mechanics from what I saw. Would I come here again? Probably, knowing what I know now about repair work/jeeps in general. Just, do your research. Also, google this place and read some of the horror stories of people getting taken advantage of in the jeep forums. Partly the guys fault, but still. Also, they seem to like you more if you have one of the newer jeeps (jk's) and/or a lot of money. read more

These are Good People. Jason, Tim and their Team stuck it out until they resolved a complex problem with my 2004 Jeep Liberty. It had problems that the dealer had first overlooked and later couldn't find. I'm certain they saved me the cost of a new engine. About a year ago my V6, 3.7L, Liberty overheated & blew a hole on side tank of radiator. The dealer replaced the radiator, radiator cap, thermostat, & all hoses. The car ran just okay over the following year, but it would consume coolant with no noticeable leaks and (with increasing frequency) would overheat in stop-n-go traffic. It also developed an intermittent misfire across multiple cylinders. Turns out my Liberty had a leaking water pump plus a leak between the exhaust and the coolant system at the cylinder head (something I'd suspected, but that the dealer had couldn't find), AND a locator key that had been partially sheared-off from between the keyed joint of the main crank and one of the timing chain cogs. Tri-County found the two leaks right away; the exhaust leak they quickly found by testing the coolant for the presence of exhaust gases - something the dealer did not do, but instead charged me an outrageous price to "clean the injection system". Another item Tri-County did that I very much appreciated was that they took the extra effort to find the timing issue. It's a certainty that the exhaust/coolant leak had led to the timing issue; something that could have caused the engine to throw a rod & explode apart. I'd recommend Tri-County Gear to anyone. They make the effort to fully resolve a problem. My repairs were made about 6 to 8 weeks ago and I've had no problems ever since. read more

I would not recommend anyone to go here. I went into this place to ask a few simple questions and a price quote. Im not gonna say anything about the price quote they gave me because to each his own its their shop they can charge whatever they like thats your sol decision. The problem i have is their attitude, i spoke with jason i believe he owns the place. The guy is a total prick, arrogant, cocky, and just crap attitude and customer service. If half the place wasn't a junk yard i dont see how they would stay in business besides rip all the people off that dont know anything about anything. read more

Worth the drive (or tow) to get to this speciality shop if you are having a problem with the rear gear assembly of your car or truck. My local mechanic replaced the right rear seal twice not realizing the rear was tweaked. They did not replace the axel pin properly which came out and destroyed the ring and pinion gears. Jared took pictures during the repair and emailed them to me. He also spoke to my mechanic explaining what had happened. Bottom line, my mechanic paid for half of the repair and my Yukon is running great again. read more

Took my work truck in for differential noise, and Jason the owner went on a test drive with me to verify the noise I was hearing. After a short conversation with him I knew I was at the right shop. He knows his stuff. He promptly got me taken care of. I called a few other shops that didn't entertain repairing the truck, or had never done one before. Would highly recommend. read more

This place has the worst service I've ever seen. I had to get the bureau of automotive repair involved and the better business bureau involved to get them to fix the trans they screwed up. I brought my jeep there for some trans work, after I got it back it was leaking fluid and slipping they gave me a written warranty. I contacted them about it and returned it to them, they had it 2 weeks and told me it had been fixed. I picked it up and stopped for fuel on my way home, it was leaking worse than before. I tried to contact them but they said they wouldn't fix it because they didn't have the man power. I contacted the BAR and got them involved finally I got them to agree to fix it. Tri county had it for another 2 weeks and its still leaking and slipping. I really don't think they should work on vehicles they need to find something else to do that's more honest. I have been a customer of Tri County for over ten years and have not once have I had an issue with any of their work. Problems that mere auto mechanics can't figure out , they solve effortlessly. The latest problem was with the front end of my 1999 Cherokee Sport which they diagnosed and solved for less than their quote. Highly recommended. read more
