I visited Tres Hermanas with a friend who I found out quickly after arriving is a regular. The owner knew him by name and he was well versed on the ins and outs of the menu as well as the specials. The staff was so friendly and because and joked around with us a bit as we made our selections. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. I ended up ordering the Carnitas y Chile Relleno and a Lilikoi Margarita and everything was so delicious. The portion size was also really big and I ended up bringing about half of it home as leftovers, which reheated really well. I loved the outdoor patio area, the tables were spaced out a good amount and Downtown Davis is great for people watching. It's also a great spot for a casual drink with friends or for a meeting. Be sure to check out the daily specials- they all sounded delicious! Tres is a lovely spot for a mean margarita on a warm afternoon. I'm particularly a fan of the blackberry marg and have splurged for a pitcher more than once! If you're looking for a good tequila-based drink, this is the place. Thanks to the nice outdoor seating, your dog is welcome too! The food is very American-ized Mexican food, which isn't bad in and of itself. Just something to note. But what irks me is how much some of the portions have dwindled over the years. The prices have not! Meals that "come with guacamole" get a half-dollar sized splatter on the side of the plate. Meals with sides of tortillas get two, and it is at the discretion of your server whether you'll have to pay for any more. Even the pico comes in tiny portions. I like the ambiance and the service is terrific. But it's frustrating to see portions shrink while prices increase. This is a Davis-wide problem that seems to be due to the fact that UCD students are a captive audience. Many restaurants (especially downtown) have jacked up their prices in the last five or so years, especially after the pandemic. It's disappointing to see. But I go back because the place holds sentimental value and, you know, a good marg is hard to find. read more

Went here with a large group. We enjoyed the chips (freshly made) salsa and guacamole. For dinner we tried the carne asada and chicken flautas. The winner was the carne asada with a large portion of flavorful steak. Service was friendly and the inside atmosphere was European/Mexican. Festive and upbeat decorations. Parking is scarce and would be best to walk over here in the area of dozens of bars and restaurants. Cost was somewhat high but lower than Sacramento prices for sit down . So glad we decided to check this place out. Based on the yelp rating alone, I probably would not have gone, however I had a personal recommendation and it definitely lived up the expectations! Prices were really great and the food was amazing, good sized portions. Our server, Brandon, was so friendly and kind, and super attentive even though he was clearly very busy with a full section on a Saturday night. The inside decor is cute and I like that it's kind of on the edge of downtown, I'd love to come back and sit in the outdoor area. Fast, friendly service and delicious margaritas! I love coming here for a happy hour with colleagues and friends because there is ample seating, tons of delicious beverages to choose from, and even margaritas by the pitcher. This last visit I tried a spicy mezcal margarita and it was ON FIRE!!! Tart and only a touch sweet with a slow-building heat that kept me wanting more. Good food, service. It was busy because of Cinco de Mayo. We made reservations because of the day and large group (5).

Came here last night with a large party for a birthday. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Service was decent and food was good but the worst part was how it ended. Someone from our party paid the bill and an automated gratuity was added to it. All of us left but our niece forgot her toy so someone from our party went back. When he went back the server made a big deal about the check and no tip being left (it was already paid and tipped) so then another person from our party tried to figure out how they didn't get the tip and it escalated from there. 3 of us went back an left an additional tip because we were told by the employee who served us that we didn't tip when in fact we did. That employee completely took advantage of our party and basically got 4 tips for not that great of service and lying. Be careful when dining here and always keep a copy of your check. read more

We come to Tres Hermanas more to any other restaurant in town because my young child is willing to eat their food. My husband and I usually order veggie fajitas with extra tortillas. The portions are so big that usually a single dinner plate feeds our entire family. I appreciate that they can make the order vegan if asked and that beans and rice do not come with animal ingredients. The waiters provide consistently good service, so no complaints there. I am knocking off one star because the restaurant is in a need of an update. I wish it was a bit cleaner. The paint could be touched up in places and the bathroom could use a remodel. Davis isn't known for having a ton of restaurants, so it's often limiting in places to eat. My friends are big fans of Tres Hermanas so I was excited to check it out. We arrived and it was absolutely packed outside. Not a single table on the patio was available. They had some tables inside still, so we didn't have to wait to be seated. The environment was loud and upbeat with all around good vibes. Our server was friendly which is always a plus. The building seemed fairly clean and sizable. My friends said they have some of the best margaritas out there, but I wasn't able to try anything since I can't really drink. I usually trust the workers for recommendations as to what's good, as they're the ones who spend the most time there. Our server said she stood by the Fajitas, so obviously I had to go with that. They were $17.99, came with chicken or sirloin, beans, rice, bell peppers, sour cream, tortillas, and guacamole. The size of the plate was good for the price, and all the dinner meals come with either a soup or a salad. Now I'm a big fan of Fajitas and so I can confidently say, these were top 3 for me. Beans and rice were good but nothing amazing. The main star of the dish was the actual meat and veggies. I would come back to Tres Hermanas just for those Fajitas, but I'm excited to try other stuff on the menu. The one thing I hated more than anything, was the meatball soup. That soup was in dire need of some salt or seasoning. It was just bland soup broth, with some bland meatball inside of it. I'm going to pick the salad next time and hopefully that's decent, because the soup was not it. Overall, from what I experienced, I'd give Tres Hermanas a 9/10. We came to Tres Hermanas last weekend and they were open for dine-in. We had an option to dine indoors or outdoors in their large, nicely decorated patio area. We opted to dine outside in their patio, as it was a nice night, there was plenty of seating, and tables were spaced apart. They do require a mask to enter, but once you are seated, you obviously don't need to wear your mask while eating. Upon being seated, drinks and fresh chips and salsa were served. We ordered the Carne Asada and Chile Relleno combo plate ($14.99), which comes with rice, refried beans, and choice of soup or salad. I chose the meatball soup and it was really good! Also, the chile relleno was delicious! It was filled with cheese and had lots of flavor. I ordered the carne asada medium rare, but when it came out, it was very well done. We let our waiter know that we were not very satisfied with the carne asada and he brought out some carnitas for us instead! The carnitas was so much better and he brought out a good amount, which defnitely made up for the asada. We also ordered the Enchiladas de Cangrejo ($13.99), which are enchiladas stuffed with imitation grilled crab and onions. It is topped with their very tasty Poblana sauce and cheese. The sauce is not spicy, but more creamy and a pinch sweet. We enjoyed this dish as well. When our bill came, we noticed they put the wrong dish on the receipt and overcharged us. However, they apologized and took care of it quickly. Our waiter, Emilio, was very friendly and provided us some great recommendations. Overall, customer service was excellent, which is why I am boosting this review to 5 stars. Although everything was not perfect from the get-go, any issue we brought up was taken care of quickly, cheerfully, and apologetically. Overall, we had a really great dining experience at Tres Hermanas. The food was delicious and we felt safe dining in their outdoor patio. Staff were wearing masks and everyone practiced distancing while dining. Also, to further protect customers against the spread of coronavirus, they installed pedals on the bathroom doors so you don't have to use your hands to open them. Great idea. read more

Tres Hermanas was one of the few restaurants opened in downtown Davis on New Year's day. We dropped on mid day, it was our first time ever here. The interior decor is so funky and fun. A mix of day of the dead, a colorful wall mural, and dark wood bar counter. They had a wall to wall side window. Luv wall to wall windows in a restaurant. The bartender greeted us right when we walked in. However being NY day, they were working with a bare bones crew. the bartender was doing quadruple duty effortlessly. He welcomed us in, brought us to a table, bartended, and helped the waitress bring out the food. He had a great attitude. Our waitress was great. She was the only wait person, but she too was crushing it. Onto the food... The complimentary chips were delicious. They were served warm. Sturdy but light and crisp. The salsa was thick and had a good flavor. Kicky non spicy flavor. Yum. I ordered the special of the day...Cocida. $12.99 Darn tasty deep beefy broth. The broth was skimmed and had no visible traces of fatty oil. Awesome. Tender hunky pieces of beef shanks, not dried out at all. Large cuts of tender potatoes, carrots, cabbage, squash, and yellow corn on the cob. The cocida came with your choice of a flour or corn tortilla and a side of Mexican rice. The soup and tortilla came out piping hot with a side of chopped white onions and cilantro. The bowl was huge. The serving size was enough for two folks or two meals. The chicken tamale was tasty, not awe inspiring but good. The chicken was moist and uniformly shredded. It was topped with Chile poblano sauce and queso fresco shavings. My sister & I brought my mom here for dinner last evening. Rogelio was our server. He told us we could sit where ever we'd like so we chose a booth in the back. We ordered waters & I got a Berryessa House IPA $7.50 & my sister had a Modelo Negra $6.50 Rogelio also brought out some fresh warm chips & delicious salsa which we all enjoyed. For entrees my sister & I both loved our Taco Salads $13.99 + $4 extra for Chicken or Carnitas, which had quite a bit of large chunks of iceberg lettuce on the bottom but there was a good amount of meat, some cheese, guacamole, and sour cream, and a side of their yummy house creamy cilantro dressing. I tried a bit of the taco shell itself which was ok, but not as fresh as I would have liked. My mom got the Chile Relleno ala cart $9.99 which was rather small. We heard this place is a must stop and there is always a line to get into the restaurant. My first question to see if it's an authentic Mexican restaurant is, do you make your own tortillas? If the answer is no then that is one strike against the restaurant. This is just my own opinion. My mom ordered the chili Verde which was very spicy according to her. I ordered a special that had a chili relleno stuffed with vegetables. It was very tasty. My cousin ordered two vegetarian tamales that he enjoyed and even had to take one home. It's not at all bad Mexican food. The salsa is flavorful (not just wet tomatoes), the chips are reasonably salted, and they offer mole as a sauce option for the enchiladas, which is unusual. But it's also not GREAT Mexican food. The ranchera sauce on my chile relleno was pretty bland. The salads were really under dressed (which is a pity because the house cilantro dressing is pretty good). The margaritas are tiny for an $11-14 price, and that'd maybe be ok if they were very strong or very good, but they're just ordinary. Like literally, I'm typing this on an airplane where I'm about to have a canned in flight margarita. They are exactly as good as those, which isn't bad, but isn't great! I would not object to eating here again, but I'd never suggest it ahead of the rest of the pack. read more

Not only is Tres Hermanas THE place I go to get enchiladas in Davis it is also up their in my book for one of the best Mexican food places in town. Despite its distance from the UC Davis campus, I found myself walking to Tres on a semi-regular basis between classes just to sooth my cravings for good enchiladas. But the good doesn't stop their: The restaurant's ambience is bold and charming, their service is consistently excellent, and they might also have the best side salad I've tried in a very long time (though I admit I don't often order salads). And though I recently have been ordering for pickup - I have heard really great things about their outdoor seating option. Tres Hermanas is without a doubt one of my favorite places to eat in Davis and I could not recommend them (and their enchiladas) highly enough. I am very excited to place an order there again soon! read more

Went there today with my wife to celebrate a special occasion. The service was terrible. The waitress never came to check on us. I had to ask a different waitress for some napkins. The water I got had lettuce in it. My wife's water cup had black stuff in it. Took our waitress 15 min to get our check. The food was alright. I got the shrimp fajitas with some under cooked tortillas. Drinks were alright but overpriced. I do not recommend this place to anyone and I will not be going back to this place. I choked on a piece of food and couldn't breathe, walked inside from the patio to the bar where there was a trash can, made eye contact with the bar tender and mouthed "I can't breathe" to signal for help, and she got upset with me as I was gagging and choking and told me to "take it to the bathroom" because there were customers around - As I continued to gasp for air and choke / gag into the trash can, she went to my table and told my friends that I was upsetting customers, insinuating / assuming that I was throwing up from intoxication (I had half of one drink...) - I finally choked up the piece of food that was stuck in my throat and returned to my table, as the bartender continued complaining about me to my friends. I really needed help - I ended up fishing in my own throat, wrist deep, to pick out the food that was stuck. I was seeing stars, and the bartender asked me to stop disrupting customers. Found this on a whim, as we were driving through downtown Davis, trying to see what was open. We came across Tres Hermanas and we gave it a go! and I am so happy that we did. They have precautions in place during the pandemic (as most restaurants do) There was only outdoor seating available, which was totally fine for us, it was nice weather and most of the outdoor seating was shaded pretty well. You HAVE to wear a mask when going inside, which you have to, to check in. Restrooms are available as well for customer use, again you have to wear a mask to utilize them. Service was great, prompt and polite. They give you amazing chips and salsa, I approve of them! The lunch special was going on and it is super affordable. I had the chicken enchiladas and they give you rice, beans, sour cream, guac and pico on the side and my boyfriend had the chicken enchiladas (shredded chicken) with the roja sauce and a side of rice and beans. Despite the lunch menu, their servings were big! and you get a choice of a salad or soup as well. We were super happy with the food and the customer service. Every employee was wearing a mask. I recommend this to all of my Yelpers if in the area! and plus it is such a nice feeling to be able to sit down and eat out at a restaurant again. =] read more

My daughter's rehearsal dinner was hosted here with 30 out of town guests. Reyna and the entire staff when above and beyond to make the evening so memorable. Every dish was delicious and amazing proportions. We were on the patio which was lovely. Every guest was still raving about the food and service days later.
